visited sugar bay in june 2026 and what an amazing place!
the staff were so incredibly friendly, chatty and provided great service, especially keshana!
the views are beautiful here, right on the beach and the pool area was lovely (a tad small) but there were plenty of loungers when i came in early june, the swim up bar was great as well!
there is a bus stop right outside the hotel where you can get cheap bus tickets into bridgetown!
there was an amazing choice of cocktails available on all inclusive so so many! the bartenders were always happy to customise and make their recommendations too which was lovely, food was nice too! a good choice for all meals and the beach bar was nice too!
the rooms and all public areas were very clean, and the room was very spacious with a lovely balcony and had good aircon!
there were some great singers and bands on of an evening which was lovely, a show as well which was a great watch.
couldn’t reccomend this place enough me and my family all loved it!
Entire stay was 10/10.
Location, amenities, staff, food and ambience all 5*
We travelled to Barbados as a group of 3 friends to celebrate a special birthday. From the moment we arrived at Sugar Bay we were made to feel welcome and were very well looked after. This is a lovely beach front hotel that has a relaxed atmosphere and non-pretentious. The hotel is in a good location to explore the island - within easy reach of Oistins (fish fry on a Friday is a must try - hotel can arrange transport for you), the museum etc. it is very easy to arrange trips via the concierge.
The negatives of the hotel are that it is a little dated and tired in places (inefficient and noisy air conditioner in the room, some missing tiles and grout issues) and in places it could do with a deep clean - mainly the tiling. However I am still giving 5 star because the positives far outweigh the negatives.
The food at this hotel is absolutely lovely, plentiful and full of flavour, different choices every day. Hats off to the chefs.
The main star of the show at Sugar Bar are the staff. We found all staff to be very helpful, friendly and willing to have a chat and a laugh. They made the whole experience very enjoyable. The Bajan people are very warm and really know how to show you a good time. I have travelled extensively and would say they are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
The bar staff in particular were brilliant, a big should out to Nicholas, Jesus and Helen.
Would recommend this hotel, don’t hesitate to book you will have the best time.
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Sugar Bay with our 8-month-old daughter. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would happily return.
The highlight has to be the food. It was honestly some of the best we've ever had on holiday, with so much variety and consistently excellent quality. A huge credit to the Food & Beverage Manager, who was incredibly friendly throughout our stay and even gifted our daughter a teddy in a Sugar Bay T-shirt, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The service was excellent. Staff remembered our drinks orders, often had our usual table ready in the buffet, and our daughter's highchair would appear without us even asking. Special thanks to Helen, Joan and Jesus, as well as all of the wonderful waiters and waitresses who looked after us so well.
The Crèche was another standout. It was spotless and so well run. A special thank you to Kaya, who made us feel completely at ease leaving our daughter, who absolutely adored her. It really allowed us to relax.
The beach and pool are beautiful, Umi was outstanding, and our massages with Nakisha at Karma Spa was genuinely one of the best we've ever had. We'd also recommend the excursions organised through the hotel, particularly Pebbles Beach to see the racehorses being bathed (just remember to bring cash if you'd like photos or to interact with the horses).
There were a few disappointments. We'd requested a ground-floor room several months before travelling due to having a baby and pram, but this wasn't accommodated, and we were told we'd need to pay for an upgrade. Carrying our sleeping daughter and pram upstairs each evening wasn't ideal and did affect our evenings.
Checkout day was also difficult. Our transfer wasn't until late afternoon, but beyond a complimentary one-hour extension, there was little flexibility unless we paid an additional US$150. We understand policies have to be applied fairly, but a little discretion for families with young babies would have been appreciated.
Getting a sunbed by the pool could also be challenging, and slightly longer buffet opening hours would make life easier for families with babies.
Despite these points, the warmth of the staff, exceptional food, fantastic childcare and beautiful setting made this a holiday we'll remember very fondly. Thank you to everyone who made our first long-haul holiday with our daughter so special - we hope to return.
A family run hotel with a Team of staff always exceed your expectations.
A perfect setting, beautiful rooms and great value for money.
This little Paradise has been created with love and care
Where do I start!
We were met with warmth and hospitality from the moment we checked in. There was a really friendly armosphere from the moment we arrived. Within two minutes, we were asked if we would like a drink, which we gladly accepted after a long flight. Check-in was seamless. You are issued with a lightweight sensor band, which is worn as part of your all-inclusive package, but it is also used to open the door to your room.
Our room was an Ocean Front Family Suite, which was perfect as we have two teenagers who did not want to share a bed. It comprised a separate bedroom and, in the living area, a pull-out sofa bed and another single bed. The suite was very clean and spacious.
I suffer with back pain and, although the beds were very comfortable and would not be an issue for the majority of people, I needed mine to be a little softer. When I enquired whether it would be possible to have a mattress topper, I was told, "No problem," and a super-padded topper was on my bed within an hour. Thank you!
The view from our room was wonderful, and we all loved sitting on the balcony in the evenings before bed.
We enjoyed snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking most days and hired a car to see the sights, including Harrison's Cave, which is a must-visit! If you hire a car, this is very easy to arrange through the hotel and is very reasonably priced too.
We ate at the Reef Restaurant most mornings and evenings. I have to say, the buffet selection was brilliant—there was something for everyone and plenty of choice. I can't recall the name of the lady who makes the eggs at breakfast, but they were the best poached eggs I have ever had in my life!
Tip: Lose a few pounds before you go to Sugar Bay!
Colin's was also a great place to have lunch, and it served the best ice cream.
I used the on-site Karma Spa twice—once for a facial and once for a body massage. Both treatments were amazing and reasonably priced, in my opinion. They're well worth treating yourself to!
The pool, although shallow, is lovely and has a swim-up bar, but we personally preferred the beach. There were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to have a toilet closer to the pool, as the nearest one requires you to walk back through the reception area.
The sea is beautiful but does have quite a lot of coral in places, so I would recommend bringing swim shoes with you, especially if you plan to snorkel.
For every three nights you stay, you can dine at one of the two speciality restaurants, Umi or Sizzle Steakhouse. We tried both during our ten-day stay. Tip: Try the chicken cashew dish at Umi—it's absolutely delicious! They also have an amazing Japanese chef.
The arcade and games room were great for the teenagers, and my son enjoyed spending time there with the friends he made during our stay.
The entertainmemt was good-some superb singers and dancers. It did not go on too late-which suited us.
Finally, I have to mention some members of staff who really made our holiday extra special.
Zakobi and Kyle, who work at the watersports centre, are simply wonderful and go out of their way to make sure you have a fantastic time. We miss them already!
Thank you also to Jesus, Deangelo, Akiell, and the lovely Nicole, who works in the Sugar Bay gift shop (also well worth a visit).
Pedro-one of the managers clearly appreciates his staff. It was lovely to meet him at the manager's cocktail evening.
They are all a complete credit to Sugar Bay and should absolutely be recognised by management for their commitment, professionalism, and outstanding customer service.
Thank you Sugar Bay-we will be back!
Our medical transplant team stayed at the hotel while working locally and couldn't have asked for a better stay. The staff were superb. They were so attentive and caring, and the rooms and facilites are just lovely. Thank you so much for making everyone so welcome
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The pool area was lovely and the beach was clean …. there were always plenty of loungers available by the beach so it wasn’t stressful trying to get these. The night entertainment was a hit and miss - low key.
A special thank you to Helen at the bar, who was always so friendly and welcoming, and Kayshana in the restaurant for her excellent service, and the water sports team who were fantastic throughout our stay.
The beach did have quite a bit of sargassum while we were there, although that’s obviously beyond the hotel’s control. Our room was comfortable, but the air conditioning could have been better and the bathroom felt a little dated. As vegetarians, we also found the food options a bit limited. Overall a good stay.
The corporate culture at this place is amazing. All employees are there to make the guest experience the best it can be and they are truly happy to do it. All employees were great but a few to recognize were adjoni at the swim up bar and zakobe at water sports. Amazing place over all
We have just got back from our 1 week stay at Sugar Bay for our Honeymoon. From the minute we arrived, all of the staff were so friendly and helpful. We received a complimentary upgrade to a sea view room to celebrate our honeymoon which was a lovely gesture from the hotel.
The hotel is a very relaxed vibe, which is exactly what we wanted. There wasn't always music playing by the pool, would recommend that its played more as definitely lifts the atmosphere.
One thing that always puts me off all inclusive hotels is the buffet food - but Sugar Bay is in a league of its own. Every day there is different choices at the buffet restaurant, a smaller offering than some larger resorts, but the quality of the food is far superior to any other resort I've ever stayed at. Every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner the food was great and we never got bored. The Japanese and Steak restaurant were also great.
Great location, round the corner from pebble beach where you can see the race horses being exercised. The beach is lovely and the breakers give shelter from the waves. Bit of seaweed when the weather has been rough but this can't be helped and the staff do a great job of clearing the beach each morning. The hotel is the perfect size- big enough to have an atmosphere but not too big and busy like some of the mega resorts.
We didn't struggle to get a bed by the pool each day - we were usually done at breakfast by 8-8.30 and I don't think the hotel was full during our stay which may have helped. There was a sign for not reserving sunbeds, however some guests ignored this and still placed towels/books and didn't come to occupy the beds until a few hours later which is a shame.
The rooms are good, not huge but we were only really in there to sleep and shower. Air con could be cooler, we had it set to the lowest setting but the room definitely felt warmer - wasn't enough to make us uncomfortable at any point. The cleaner came in every day and the room was always spotless when we returned with towels refreshed.
The staff are amazing - special shout out to Ajani at the pool bar - he has a great personality and we enjoyed chatting to him at the bar when he was working, as well as trying his own cocktails not on the menu (they should be!!) . Also to Jesus & Kay in the restaurant, they were both so lovely and friendly every time we ate.
We had such an amazing time, hopefully we will be back but for longer next time as a week just wasn't long enough.
We loved everything but the highlight is the staff, location and food.
There genuinely wasn't anything we disliked and we will certainly return - can't wait!
This is a lovely resort with wonderful staff, who truly are amazing and so very kind.
My husband was on crutches and they could not do enough for him.
I must mention the two ladies at reception who drove us up the hill so we could visit the steak restaurant. Without them we couldn’t have gone.
I’m afraid I don’t remember their names so I hope this gets passed on to them.
The food here is very good, as are the drinks.
The pool is lovely and great if you don’t like deep water.
Unfortunately the beach rarely looked like it does in the photos, the sea was rough and dark in colour thanks to the seaweed. We only saw it calm a couple of times during our 10 day stay. And I do think the beds on the beach should have mattresses.
Our rooms were comfortable and clean.
Overall this is a lovely resort with plenty of staff who cannot do enough for you.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
My wife and have recently returned home from a pleasant stay at Sugar Bay.
Upon arrival (around 14:45), we were checked in reasonably quickly, but despite being our documents saying check in was 15:00, we were told that our room wasn't ready and to check back after 16:00. We were told to leave our luggage and head to the bar for a drink whilst we waited.
We shown to our room around 17:00 by the friendly porter/Bellhop.
Our room, a standard garden view room was large, very clean and had a very comfortable bed, the air conditioning unit whilst effectively cooling our room was very noisy. This turned out to be a blessing as maintenance work appeared to be being carried out in adjacent rooms and buildings (drilling, knocking and banging and a concrete mixer running most days) the noisy AC somewhat reduced the outside noise!
Food at the buffet restaurant was very good, breakfast was hot and plentiful, lunches and dinners were varied and always good quality. Staff in the buffet restaurant were friendly and efficient and always said hello.
Umi was also very good, a fairly small menu but something that could be enjoyed by most people.
We were a little disappointed by Sizzle... The restaurant itself was very hot (despite multiple fans) and I wasn't overly impressed by the steak.... It was ok, but I expected better from a specialist steak restaurant. The temperature plus the disappointing steak meant we only ate here once and skipped dessert to go and cool off!
Colin's beach bar served very nice local dishes such as fried fish, spiced chicken and burgers etc staff were very efficient and friendly here!
The bars were ok, some staff were engaging, liked to have a laugh and got to know you and your drinks preferences.... Some even invented drinks for you based on what you like! Unfortunately some members of staff were completely uninterested (unless you waved a few dollars in their direction) making ordering drinks difficult on occasions.
The draft beer (Banks, Deputy and Carib) was good (I had a preference for Deputy) but other drinks (particularly cocktails or anything containing rum or vodka) appeared very weak, having worked in the hospitality industry for a number of years, a glass containing a third alcohol (as poured) should knock your socks off....they didn't! I can only assume the unlabeled demijohns staff used to fill the Mount Gay bottles at the bar are of a lower ABV due to the hotel being All Inclusive?
The Lazy Mongoose was worth a visit, one a couple of occasions they had no draft beer and ran out of cans, but alternatives were readily offered by the staff. Unfortunately despite a recent renovation the dart board was in poor condition and darts pretty much unplayable, but this didn't really detract from the fun!
The Pool is quite small and shallow, but offers comfortable loungers if you are lucky enough to snag one! From very early in the morning, residents were "reserving" beds with towels, bags, books etc despite there being notices explicitly asking guests not to.
Other rules around use of the pool were also not enforced.... On most days teenagers were causing a nuisance throwing eachother around, younger kids were splashing around the bar area (despite children not being allowed in the pool bar area) and eventually during our stay the entire pool bar appeared to have been taken over by a large group who sat there all day 2 drinks in hand! (I overheard one guest saying it was like being in Benidorm)
The beach was generally a lot quieter than the pool area, the sand is a little rough with the odd stone and bits of coral making entry to the sea a little uncomfortable. There was sargassum during our stay, but this tended to be at the Savannah hotel end and didn't really impact most of the beach.
We have given a 4 star rating in this review, in reality it's probably a 3.5! We had high hopes for Sugar Bay based upon other reviews, however we had to manage our expectations during the stay. Despite our little niggles as described above we did enjoy our holiday in Barbados, however I don't think we would stay at Sugar Bay should we return to the island.
We had the most amazing stay at this hotel in Barbados. From the moment we arrived, every member of staff made us feel so welcome. The people here are genuinely some of the kindest, warmest, and most helpful people we’ve ever met, and they went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable.
The food was absolutely incredible. Every meal was fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented, with plenty of variety to choose from. We looked forward to every breakfast, lunch, and dinner because everything was consistently delicious.
The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, and well maintained, creating the perfect place to relax. What truly made this holiday special, though, was the outstanding hospitality. The warmth and friendliness of everyone we met made us feel at home from start to finish.
We couldn’t recommend this hotel more highly and will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone for making our trip so memorable!
Location was fantastic! The atmosphere was fantastic as well. The rooms were beautiful. Value was good. It was VERY clean. No noise while we were there just the beautiful sound of nature. The staff was top notch and very sweet. Amenities were perfect. Games, sand toys for kids to play with beach chairs, umbrella, towels, water sport activities: snorkel, paddle board, boogie board with very cool window for kids to see fish without putting head under AND kayaks! This place is NOT big and give a boutique, cozy feel. Really nicely decorated throughout the hotel. Everything is so easy to find and you are not wandering around the first few days trying to figure out where you are as in LARGE hotels. I LOVED the vibe here. Perfect.
We really enjoyed our stay at Sugar Bay. Great and amazing hotel. The whole staff and management are so nice, professional and accommodating.
They made our stay wonderful and relaxing.
It’s in a great location right on Hastings.
The pool and beach area is chill and relaxing.
The bartenders at both beach bars and Pool bar made the best drinks!!
The buffets at the Reef restaurant were amazing, with lots of menu options. Also loved the lunch menus at the beach restaurant.
The whole facility and rooms are always clean. Staff, Food, drinks, beach and pool are spot on.
I stayed at Sugar Bay in June 2026 as soon as arrived at hotel the staff were all friendly and welcoming! There were some staff members who were exceptional, Aaron who works in watersports on the hotel beach, Jesus, Akil, Deangelo, Tristan and damien who work at bar/restaurants! They all provided exceptional service and made our hotel experience amazing! Aaron’s customer service was beyond exceptional, he should be promoted! The food at Colins beach bar and grill was amazing they served high quality authentic bajan food! Also the asian fusion restaurant UMI also offers delicious high quality food! The hotel has a wide range of facilities. I would highly recommend the hotel!
We stayed at Sugar Bay from 14 to 23 June as a family of 4 with adult children. All of us were impressed by the warm welcome, the standard of our two Signature twin rooms, the food, drinks, beach and staff. The surrounding gardens are stunning and well tended. Our rooms were on the first floor (in UK we mean one above ground) and our balconies had a view into a tropical ‘jungle’ in which we spied green monkeys, hummingbirds and a glimpse of a whistling frog. We had emailed ahead and requested non ground floor rooms, separate twin beds and a quiet location, all of which were met.
The all inclusive drinks were high quality and the cocktails freshly mixed and strong! There is a good mocktail menu too for non-drinkers. The food was excellent in the buffet and also at Colin’s, Sizzle and Umi. The filet mignon at Sizzle was the best steak I’ve ever tasted. In fact we visited Sizzle twice and on both occasions were served by Tyreke who was professional and great at his job.
We ate lunch most days at Colin’s beach bar-this is casual enough that you can roll up in swimwear yet the table service received makes it feel like an occasion. There is a slightly varied menu each day with a special dish of the day. Every lunch we had there was delicious and Samantha coordinates the team efficiently to ensure a smooth service. Another memorable team member was Jesus who has a quiet and gentle nature, with great attention to detail.
We spent a lot of time at the beach which is spacious with plenty of sun loungers for everyone. The watersports guys are friendly and helpful in setting up parasols or moving sunbeds. A special shout out to Kyle who is infectiously funny and cheerful!
We only visited the pool once but, as other guests have mentioned, the sun loungers get reserved early (with nobody on them) so it’s difficult to get a spot.
We had fun in the games room where you can play pool, table football and arcade games in air conditioning. We used the gym too which was fine for our needs. The Lazy Mongoose is a nice idea and we visited on a couple of evenings to play darts and enjoy a drink in a traditional pub.
Overall, we would thoroughly recommend Sugar Bay for a memorable and relaxed holiday. The thoughtful details combined with good quality food and drink, plus a dedicated team of staff makes this place a perfect choice.
Two couples came here to celebrate our 40th birthdays, and we honestly couldn’t have picked a better place.
We had a fantastic holiday from start to finish. This isn’t a flashy, ultra-luxury resort, but that’s part of its charm. It feels authentic, relaxed and genuinely welcoming, while still offering a high standard throughout.
The food deserves a special mention. The buffet was quite simply the best all-inclusive buffet we’ve ever experienced, with plenty of choice and consistently excellent quality. Both à la carte restaurants were also superb, particularly Sizzle, which we visited twice during our stay.
The staff were wonderful. Akeel on the beach and Seth at the bar were always friendly, attentive and a real credit to the hotel. The reception team were also great and helped us arrange taxis and excursions without any fuss.
We stayed in a basic Signature Room, which was more than adequate for our needs. It was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The air conditioning worked well overnight and kept the room cool enough for a good night’s sleep.
If I was being picky, the only things I’d suggest are:
• Mattresses on the beach sunbeds would make lounging by the sea even more comfortable.
• A few more bins around the resort would be useful. Guests could clear away cups and rubbish more easily, and there didn’t seem to be regular collection of empty glasses in some areas.
That said, neither of these points had any impact on our stay.
We left feeling relaxed, well looked after and already talking about coming back. For anyone looking for a quality all-inclusive with great food, lovely staff and a more authentic feel, we’d highly recommend it.
Top tip - join the steel pan lessons on a Monday morning. There is a small charge but it’s worth it. Ask at reception.
