Great location, fun novelty to say we've stayed in Bullock Hotel.
Pros:

Great location- stepping right out the door and you're on main street ready to shop. Lots of great restaurants nearby. I'm a history buff, so I loved staying in Seth's Bullock's hotel. Did not see any ghost. Older hotel, but well maintained and good ac during the massive heatdome '26. Also, bottled water in hotel room was a nice touch. We didn't think we'd have a mini fridge, but we did.

Cons:

There was no bartender on site the day we arrived, so my husband and I walked down the street for a drink. We also tried to eat breakfast in the hotel before leaving town, but there was a 45 min wait and it was 9am. We decided to leave town and find breakfast in Sturgis. Also, the hotel offers a ghost tour for $20/person, but only Thurs-Sun. We happened to be there on a Tuesday. Bummer.

Thé Wild West hotel
Pros:

Wonderful historical location, you walk out and you’re in the Wild West. Rooms and breakfast room in style.

Cons:

It’s obviously not as comfortable as a modern hotel but that’s the deal.

Mixed experience
Pros:

We came to Deadwood for historical tourism and were excited to stay at Bullock, especially after watching the show Deadwood. However, we ended up with mixed feelings about the hotel. The good: fantastic location in the middle of the tourist area, free parking included, solid bacon-and-eggs type breakfast (try the massive chocolate-chip pancake), and of course a historic hotel. The bad: not super well maintained rooms with few outlets, somewhat unfriendly staff, loud casino games throughout the first floor, and expensive for what you get.

A few things to note:
- The regular rooms and beds are small and the furnishings old-fashioned, which is part of the charm but worth knowing. Our bathroom was so small the door swung within an inch of the toilet seat. However, our room on the third floor was clean and quiet. And sadly we didn't see any ghosts!
- The parking lot is behind the hotel, not across the main street. It took us a little time to locate, and the front desk staff we called before arriving didn't seem particularly happy to guide us when we arrived late at night. Receiving some instructions in advance would have helped. Once you arrive, you have to get a pass from the front desk to leave on your dashboard. Fortunately the lot never filled up completely while we were there.
- We asked the front desk staff early in our stay to send maintenance to check on a window shade that wasn't closing. Unfortunately they never ended up sending anyone.
- In general, while no one was rude, we found the staff to be rather unfriendly. Some did seem warmer with the older folks we saw, and possibly with folks who were there to gamble.

The suites are worth the extra.
Pros:

We got a suite and it was amazing with beautiful antiques and lots of room - probably the most charming hotel room we've had. Our friends got queen bed rooms that were very small - not much larger than the bed. I think we were the only non-gamblers in Deadwood and the historic lobby filled with slot machines was a little distracting.

Location

Cons:

The two men on the reception desk were so rude. They made stupid faces and rolled their eyes when we asked if we could have a chair in the room. We did eventually get one but it was absolutely filthy.

Pros:

The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The first night we needed a lil extra cleaning in our room from an accident. They were so helpful and didn't bat an eye at it. Eddie at the Bar is a Hoot! Gotta love the outfits and the stories! Even though we were in the heart of historic downtown, it was quiet in our room.
