The convenience of being close to downtown Boulder, but you are literally in a park, with incredible views, and hiking right out the door. Our room was immaculate. We understand the Dining Hall is a local favorite for breakfast/brunch (for good reason), but dinner there is also fabulous! We enjoyed the historic photos and the whole vibe of Colorado Chautauqua!
We love staying at Chautauqua in the deluxe, historic cottages, on the beautiful campus right next to all of the amazing hiking trails! We love stepping out of our cottage straight onto the trails. We never stay anywhere else when we visit Boulder. The lovely cozy cottages, the beautiful surroundings, the peace and quiet and stars at night, and the outstanding staff, dining hall, and events make this an experience not to be missed! The staff always provide such a warm welcome and make sure our stay is always joyous and restorative! Thank you!
Everything except for the super hard mattresses. We would appreciate Chautauqua updating mattresses when they need it.
We didn’t sleep well on the mattresses.
The location is extraordinary with wonderful hiking and access to other recreational areas on the campus. It is an easy walk to some of Boulder's historic areas and the University. Having the restaurant and general store within the park is another plus (although I did not use them during this stay.)
I didn't rate the lodging higher because it can be a bit noisy due to lack of soundproofing. A guest left at 4AM and I heard the entire departure. On the minor side the refrigerator was also noisy but I didn't have time to let the admin staff know about it.

Spent 2 nights over Thanksgiving. We stayed in a one bedroom cabin. Very clean and comfortable. Kitchen was extremely well stocked with everything you need. I did miss a dishwasher, but it is a cabin. Loved the many hikes we took right from our cabin. A unique experience.
This is a wonderful place - can't recommend it enough. It is the best way to experience Boulder. In the heart of the foothills, gorgeous outdoors, no TV, relaxed, clean, welcoming.
The best parts were the convenient location and the friendly staff.
The furniture was uncomfortable, and there was a noticeable amount of dust and dirt on the windows and around the room. It was also difficult to locate the check-in office in the dark.
One evening, a group of young men (approximately 18–20 years old) were running around the property playing hide-and-seek loudly, even hiding under our windows, which was quite disruptive.
I would not return or recommend this location.
Beautiful location and cabins are tidy
Parking can be a challenge sometimes
We stayed on 2 occasions last year and coming back this time felt like coming home! The staff are so friendly and the place is unique. It’s chance to go back a little in time and relax and unwind. We love it! The last of the autumn leaves was an added bonus 🍂
Nothing - all wonderful.
We enjoyed our stay but the floors in the living room were very dirty. When we first got there, we accidentally dropped a pillow on the floor and it was covered in dirt and hair. The rest of the cabin appeared clean, but it gave us the ick the rest of the stay and we didnt want to walk around barefoot. For the police we paid, thats a bit annoying. We still enjoyed our stay because the place is beautiful and very unique. Great location and beautiful grounds.
The location and the park.
Historic location and screened porch. Dining room food was great.
The cottage was not thoroughly cleaned. There were bits of dirt in the kitchen cupboard.
Totally unique experience! Amazing location, super chill, great historical story
Amazing views and charming cabins. We always love staying here.
There is a lot to love about this arts and nature complex. I stayed in a cabin after being upgraded from a room with a broken air conditioner. Cabins have full kitchens and are quiet. I also enjoyed a great breakfast at the "Dining Hall" which serves a full menu with table seating.
On the downside, WiFi is very sketchy throughout the complex. It was built before ADA regulations, so there are no ramps, only (lots of) stairs, and there is really no assistance in getting from the check-in location to the lodge or cabin you are assigned to. Altitude in Boulder is one mile above sea level, and the property is quite hilly. Buyer beware!
Loved it!
