Lovely, well presented property. Rooms were clean and well maintained with great amenities. Honestly my favourite hotel by far. Perfect for families too. Location is great and walking distance to everything in the city.
Location with parking was great. The staff were 100% so friendly, chatty and brilliant around service.
Comfortable and clean apartment, location was good.
We parked in the street, but we aren’t a big fan of having to pay for property parking on top of room costs.

We stayed there for 5 days thinking it was the best hotel in Dunedin .
First Day
We went out for a long walk at about 8 am . We put the “ please clean our room sign “ outside our hotel
Came back with lunch at about 1 pm . Room not cleaned . No issue . Housekeeping team probably busy
We put the “ Do not disturb sign “ between 1 pm ~ 2 pm ( time approx) . Had our lunch
We left about 2 pm for a tour . Came back at about 7 pm plus . Room was still not cleaned or bedsheets changed . Nothing done !
We called front desk and informed her about it . She came to our room at our request . After a brief explanation , one of her first words were “ How do I know that you didn’t put the sign the other way after you came back “ , in effect accusing us of lying and cheating . She further adds “ it’s not that I am accusing you but many other guests do the same to us at this hotel “ in effect also accusing her hotel guests are liars .
We were furious . Utterly disgusted at the service quality and lack of respect for their hotel guests . Demanded to see the manager in charge
Next morning , went down , talk to the manager. Nice affable person .
After exposing the situation , we found out that the service staff , the night before , hid from her boss her accusations .
Never mind that . What the manager said shocked us
He said “ I guess it’s your bad luck that you did not get your room cleaned. The cleaning staff saw your “ do not disturb sign “ during the 1 hr we are inside taking our lunch
This is one and only distinct occasion where I put up a sign “ do not disturb “ between 1-2 pm and do not get my hotel room serviced . Even though the “ please clean the room sign was up 8am -1 pm and from 2-7 pm .
Perhaps this is how Distinction Hotel got its name . Distinct disregard for customer services
I was told by a friend that this is how services at New Zealand hotels are . Poor and indifferent
I beg to differ . The other places and people in New Zealand are very service oriented and pleasant.
I don’t think I will ever patronized Didtinction Hotel again ever again.

Jnr suite is well set out with separate bedroom which was ideal for our needs. Also room was dark & soundproof which was great for sleeping. Bed very comfortable.
Buffet breakfast was ordinary with limited gluten free options. Cafes in the next block offered much better & cheaper options.
EXCELLENT SUITE, FULLY EQUIPPED WITH EVERYTHING A TRAVELLER NEEDS WITH GOOD LIGHTING.
TERRIFIC BREAKFAST, REAL QUALITY FOOD TOO, NOT JUST PLAIN LABEL STUFF PUT OUT FOR THE BUFFET.
