The whole building was beautiful, plenty of room in the apartment and the outside terrace was wonderful
This apartment is in a 500 year old house built in the traditional Spanish style around a central courtyard. There are two apartments one flight up from the entry way; the ground level and courtyard are occupied by a restaurant which is closed Sunday night through Wednesday morning.
We rented the smaller of the two apartments. It was spacious for two guests with a king sized bed in the bedroom, reading lights on both sides of the bed, a comfortable living room (no TV), a large bathroom with a washing machine and drying racks, and a well-appointed kitchen where we made coffee every day. The location in the Vegueta neighborhood was perfect for us - close to the lovely old market where we bought provisions, close to the cultural offerings of Las Palmas, and close to the bus station for longer excursions around the island.
Coordinating with the manager was very easy via WhatsApp and she went out of her way to help us with a booking for an extremely early taxi on the day we left.
We were not prepared for how loud the restaurant noise is on the nights the restaurant was open (4 nights a week), but we were able to tolerate it as the noise ceases at around 11 pm. Otherwise the location is quiet. We do not recommend eating in the restaurant - the food is much better in other places close by.
My only other complaint is that there must be a plastic covering for the mattresses on the bed because we both woke up sweating until we figured out to sleep on top of the duvet cover with a coverlet, rather than under the duvet...
Everything. We were very well catered for by Dora. The property was beautiful and in a wonderful area. It was exceptionally clean and the rooms very comfortable. We loved having the restaurant in the courtyard and ate there twice during our 4 night stay. We particularly liked having the balcony overlooking the courtyard. The roof terrace was great but it was a bit too windy to use it during our stay. Having the washing machine was great too.
Nothing to dislike. It was noisy at times as there were two private afternoon private parties with very loud music but it is the party season and we found it interesting. Once the parties were over and the normal restaurant was back in action, it was just wonderful hearing the babble below us.
Just be aware that most taxi’s won’t take you directly to the property but will drop you 150 yards away and you have to pull your suitcases up a cobbled street to the property. And the apartment is on the first floor. Travel lightly
The privilege of being the sole guests in a 500 year old house with Christopher Columbus as a neighbour was fantastic. Dora was so helpful- even carried our suitcases.
Nothing
The apartment was amazing!it was right in the centre of the town just a couple of minutes from the cathedral and walking distance from the beach! The place is full of history, clean and well equipped.
It was our first time on Las Palmas and the host helped us so much with advice on places to visit, how to use the public transport and places to eat.
100% recommend this place! And we are coming back for our next holiday!
No faults
This is a magical place. It is a huge and very comfortable apartment in the middle of the historic section of Gran Canarias. Dora, the manager, is extra special. She made our stay exceptional. The terrace on the roof is stunning. The extras, such as fresh strawberries and an assortment of other delicious foods, were delicious. This is an elegant place. The restaurant downstairs is the best on the island. I really don't have words to describe this place!!
Nothing. This place was the most amazing we have ever stayed at. Historic, comfortable, beautiful, elegant -- these are a few of the words that describe it!
We stayed to work a week from abroad and could not have been luckier with our choice of accommodation: An ancient building, in a wonderful, quiet side street; true to original just as its warm interior, a big bright veranda to work from, a court (that serves as a restaurant) to look down to, very high ceilings and more than enough space to spend days and nights. We were welcomed by hearty and lovely hosts and owners, a bouquet of fresh lilies, seasonal fruit and found the perfect, authentic spot to stay at in Las Palmas: Hopefully soon again and next time for longer than only a week.
Nothing. Even the restaurant got quiet and closed long before we went to bed.
The apartment is on the first floor of a traditional Spanish home owned at one time by a wealthy family. It retains its balcony and plant filled open courtyard which is used as a restaurant. The rooms save for the kitchen are spacious and there is also the outdoor balcony. The galley kitchen is well equipped and basics such as herbs, spices, tea coffee and sugar are available. A lovely basket of fruit, water, wine and beer were a delightful surprise. Everything to make the stay comfortable was provided. Dora who welcomed us at the property, showed us round and made sure we knew how to get in and out. The location in the centre of Las Palmas old town is perfect - two minutes to the Modern Art Museum, Casa Colon and Cathedral.
The TV reception was so poor as to be unwatchable.
Beautiful and picturesque setting. 2nd floor of a quaint family restaurant. Very quiet, even when the restaurant is operating. Rustic and charming, the perfect place if you love high ceilings and old wood furniture. Having a washing machine was super useful. Host was generous quickly responded to any requests!
It was fine for me, I enjoyed my stay; just a heads up this is a rustic setting. No AC, tons of stairs, located in a pedestrian area (cabs cannot get there). If you have any sort of mobility issues or if carrying heavy luggage consider a modern hotel instead.
Spacious, charming house with a lot of personality in a historic building right in the heart of Vegueta, the old town of Las Palmas.
It features a really big living room with balcony, bedroom with bathroom, kitchen and a rooftoop terrace. With separate entrance, there are 2 more bedrooms.
Downstairs there is a nice restaurant. You can hear a bit of noise in the evening but they close at 11PM so there were no issues at all.
Dora, the host, was very friendly and helpful.
We had a great stay, thank you!
Casa Montesdeoca, a wonderful oasis of peace and tranquillity
Liked · Casa Montesdeoca is a beautiful and charming 16th Century merchant palace located in the best part of Las Palmas. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed with warm hospitality and personalized attention from the hostess, Dora. Communication with her prior to the trip was excellent, providing us with information on how to find the apartment and what time we can check in. What made Casa Montesdeoca truly special is the attention to detail that Dora provides. The welcome pack was most welcome as were the thoughtful recommendations for local restaurants and attractions, Dora went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. On our arrival on Sunday morning, she was keen to point out a trader's market and local musicians in a square close by. We enjoyed comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms with modern amenities, including, free Wi-Fi, and a flat-screen TV. The apartment was spacious and clean, with a large comfortable bed that ensure a good night's sleep. The apartment had a wonderful roof terrace, this provided a quiet space to relax in the sun, or take advantage of the pergola and sit and read in the shade. The large kitchen had everything you could ask for. We enjoyed walking to Las Canterras beach. The town is full of history and character, with cobblestone streets, charming buildings, and a lively market. There is also an excellent art gallery on the next street, four floors of contemporary art. Overall, Casa Montesdeoca is the perfect place to stay for those seeking a comfortable and personalized experience in Las Palmas. We loved the house and had a great stay, thank you Dora!
I really can't think of anything we needed that was not provided. Beautiful apartment and location. Fully equipped kitchen and a feel of home from home.
This is the best place! A beatiful, clean and spacious apartment and fantastic sorrundings in the Old town/Vegueta. We really enjoyed the big roof terrace and cozy balcony.
In the weekend you can hear people talk from the restaurant downstairs but it didn’t disturb us, because it’s such a fantastic and cosy restaurant, which adds to the experience. There are also several other very nice restaurants, cafés and bars within a short walking distance from the apartment.
Dora is a very helpful and kind hostess and the service was great. She answered our questions quickly and kindly. You have all you need (and a lot more) for a comfortable stay in this
apartment!
The apartment was beautiful. A lovely colonial pearl with high ceilings and a lovely elegant feel to it. We loved the Orangerie, and it felt luxurious to sit there and have breakfast in the mornings. There is a upscale resturant in the courtyard, but the sound of guests in the evening was fine, at a gentle level and added to the atmosphere to be honest. The Location was perfect, a few steps from a range of restuarants and bodegas in the old town, but on a side street. We were genuinley sad to leave after our 4 day stay. We have travelled a LOT over the years, and I can safely say that this was one of of the most memorable places we have ever visited.
Leaving!
best equipped apartment we have ever stopped at with world class restaurant downstairs .it would have been nice to have use of the roof terrace and think it would be good to warn guests that almost all the restaurants are closed on sunday night great trip
