Location / restaurant
Asked 3 times for the light in the bathroom to be fixed ! It was NEVER done ! Even had a long conversation with the porter ! Bathroom was showing its age.
Staff very welcoming and attentive. The main restaurant was closed and we were not aware of this prior to booking. However, food was served in the breakfast room which was fine. Waiting staff were very knowledgeable with regard to the menu.
Lovely room although would have preferred a better view from the patio..we faced the car park. Room was clean and housekeeping staff did a very good job during our stay.
The castle is a mix of old and modern buildings and the scenery from the bar is great. And food was excellent (we had dinner and breakfast and drinks at the bar). The room had plenty of space (even 2 bathrooms). And the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We left we many good memories.
We had not planned enough time to experiment the SPA… our bad!
My partner and I stayed here for one night and had a wonderful time. Attentive staff, beautiful room and very comfy bed. We used the spa facilities which were spotless and the sauna + steam room were excellent.
We had dinner where we had a delicious meal. My partner had the cheese souffle to start and we both had steaks as mains. Neither of us usually have streaks because they tend to be overrated and underwhelming. Not here. They were superb.
Overall, a lovely relaxing stay in a beautiful location, and we plan to return
We definitely spoiled ourselves with this experience and it was worth every penny! The service was outstanding and they really made you feel like royalty especially Kristi at the front desk and the concierge . The setting was also stunning and the castle room was very comfortable. The breakfast was amazing as well. I highly recommend.
I was greeted at the door by a great doorman that was always happy to see you and super helpful. From there I was offered a sample of local Scotch and greeted by Neta who was always great to talk with and help. The beds were the most comfortable beds we've had yet. The food service was always happy to serve even when I asked for take away plates for an early departure. And lastly the view was awesome.
Beautiful gardens in a stunning location. The rooms are nice but a little warm despite it being cold outside. The lounge and dining areas are beautifully decorated. The food is outstanding. The dining pod is divine.
We had a short break here in a woodland superior lodge. The hotel was very nice and the food was good. We paid £15 extra one day to have breakfast in the lodge which was nice and relaxing but they need to change the window set up as if you opened the voiles to have daylight then people walked past and looked in at you - not very private - especially as our lodge was right next to the staff living accommodation- so a lot of people walking past. It was also very hot and stuffy. I would not want to stay in a hot spell.
Visited with my husband for afternoon tea for his birthday. Lovely welcome when we arrived on the grounds by the gentleman out front. Arrived for our table and stood for 10 minutes to be completed and seated.
Seating and table arrangement was strange. Felt like a children’s table as very low down which is not comfortable to eat at and completely impractical.
Service was incredibly poor and not overly friendly. Were not asked nor offered more than one pot of tea. Had to chase down the bill as no one in sight.
Food was mediocre and not the quality I expected. Certainly did not live up to other afternoon tea experiences.
All in all not the experience I expected and overpriced due to poor service and quality.
This hotel disappointed on most levels. We were with a group that delivers 99.9% of the time when promising "premier" hotels. On this trip, Fonab was the only place that missed that mark and it did so in a big way. Despite the warm greeting with whiskey and fudge and the beautiful views here, we would not recommend this place.
Our room was uncomfortably warm. The AC did not work even after attention from maintenance.
The restaurant was the biggest disappointment. We had a dinner for 4 and another group dinner for 20. Service at both dinners was awful with waiting times over an hour for main course. The food was not good despite what the GM has said in response to other reviews. The breakfast food was fine but the service was inattentive and slow.
I agree with the reviewer who noted the ownership by a PE group.
Would not recommend this place.
Such a romantic location.
I used the hotel facilities everyday including the swimming pool and sauna. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel
I loved everything!
Bed was very comfy
Room looked tired. Furniture needed changed and chip in bathroom sink
we enjoyed our visit and the staff were extremely helpful
