Romantic Scottish Castle Mini-Moon
Pros:

Amazing & relaxing stay at Fonab for our minimoon. Breathtaking views, easy access to the town & theatre whilst still being able to get away from it all. High quality food, rooms & service. A really special stay!

Contemporary Castle Vibe
Pros:

A wonderfully located property on the banks of the Loch and just off the A9. The location provides easy acres to the dam and fish ladder, the surrounding walks, and access to Pitlochry Theatre which was our main reason for the stay. The castle is relatively small with the majority of rooms being annexed as “lodges” a short walk from the hotel. The properties public area are very modern in style with the bar (and some of the rooms) being in the older castle dating from the late 1800s. Prices probably reflect the normal Highland prices in August I.e. not cheap.

Best Hotel in the UK
Pros:

My husband and I were going to see a production at The Pitlochry Festival Theatre so booked two nights at this hotel after a Google search of the area,

I simply cannot recommend the hotel highly enough.

We were collected from the station by Mike (in full Scottish regalia) who became one of our angels during our stay. The other angel was Davie.

Checking in was easy, but unfortunately the first woodland room we were shown had an issue with the bathroom ceiling,so Mike swiftly moved us to an even better room just above our original room.

This room was delightful and featured a large balcony with table and chairs for al fresco dining.Very spacious with a vaulted ceiling and lovely views. It had a massive, wonderfully comfortable ‘Emperor’ bed (I didn’t know such things existed!) and the decor/ furniture was very attractive too.

The bathroom didn’t disappoint either. Very large with a spacious rainfall power shower, free standing bath and plenty of fluffy towels.

Every part of the room was spotlessly clean.

We were presented with a complimentary plate of delicious handmade chocolates and every extra we requested ( another lamp, off menu food,a lift to the theatre etc) was sorted out by Mike in a jiffy.Nothing was too much trouble for him and his warm, friendly instantly put us at our ease.

Both the breakfast, set dinner and à la carte menu gave us a wide choice of food for in-room dining which is always our presence when we’re staying in a hotel.I had the lemon sole goujons on both nights of our stay as they were so tasty.

The swimming pool and wellness suite were about a 30 second walk from our room. We had a lovely swim in water of a perfect temperature and most of the time, had the pool to ourselves.

Davie took over from Mike to look after us that evening (sporting a different version of traditional regalia) and made sure he had all the information memorised to get us to and from the theatre in good time.

He was a complete gentleman, providing me with a special little step and the use of his arm to help me get safely up to the high step of the people carrier vehicle. This was much appreciated as unknown to Davie my mobility can be a little problematic due to a long term chronic illness. He also kindly complimented my evening wear, which is always good for the old self esteem!

Davie collected us after the show and whisked us back to our beautiful room.

The following morning the front of house manager kindly offered us a late checkout and presented us with a box of gorgeous lemon and thyme biscuits hand made at the hotel as a souvenir of our stay.

We were given a lift to the station by Mike who gave us a little talk about the history of the town since the days of Queen Victoria (she was a big admirer of the place apparently)

Hand on heart I can say that the Fonab Castle Hotel is without doubt the finest place we have stayed in the UK and we have every intention of returning sooner rather than later.

The standards of everything from the staff attention to detail and the luxury of the room/facilities ( including Netflix available on a large flatscreen Tv in the room) )are a firm 10/10. The manager of the hotel deserves a firm pat on the back for making the place into such a delight for rest and relaxation! Highly, highly recommended.

Nicht viel Positives zu berichten
Pros:

Zimmer sind geräumig.

Cons:

Amazing trip
Pros:

From the moment we arrived until the morning we had to leave, this is by fat the best hotel stays we have ever had. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and the layout was perfect. The view from the property was spectacular, it does not matter where you are the views were picture perfect, and we took plenty. The staff was absolutely wonderful, they genuinely seemed like they wanted to help you however they could. Above and beyond for out first trip abroad.

Hit and miss
Pros:

We visited Fonab for two nights for our anniversary.
Lot's of things were very good but there were also a few things not so good.
The staff are all very friendly and professional.
The property is impressive and in a lovely spot.
The restaurant was excellent (I'll post a separate review) for both breakfast and evening meal.
The cocktail bar was also very nice with great cocktails, nice ambience and staff.
The room was a little tired but fine. Except it was warm and there wasn't aircon. Which when you're paying 400 quid+ a night I think should be expected. Because without it, even with the outside door open, it was quite uncomfortable.
The spa is nice but when we went there were no available beds around the pool (9 available I think), the massage was good but expensive, and the outdoor jacuzzi was closed. If it's not open in July when is it?
On the second morning the water was completely off (apparently in all rooms in our corridor) so no tap water, toilet flush or shower. This hadn't been resolved by the time we left midday.
I did feed this back to the hotel but got a generic reply not addressing any of the issues. Maybe it was AI generated. So that wasn't really what I would expect either. I notice a number of not so positive reviews on here are not responded to but good ones are. I see that as a problem.
We would definitely return to the area and the restaurant for dinner but not to the hotel as things stand.

Pros:

Booked a single night in a $600 castle but was in a tiny room tucked next to an elevator which felt like a $200 room max. The hotel felt like a conference center vibe not a cozy castle. The staff explained that dynamic pricing and it being a last room made it price high on booking.com and they did a partial refund after needing to meet with them. They were very nice but I didn’t want to have to meet with staff, say anything negative or stay there …. I just wanted to stay in a $600 room in a Castle for my one night there.
