Beautiful location, lovely room, great welcome.
Restaurant service at dinner and breakfast was below standard. Food was good when it eventually arrived. Not sure if just not enough staff but we were ignored for a good 20 minutes after we were seated with no menus. Could see everyone else being served which was frustrating and the wait between courses was really long. To be fair we did get an apology and free desserts but not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel.
Beautiful castle, wonderful reception from staff on arrival. Lovely bedrooms with everything we could want.

Good spa, which included a pool, a steam room and sauna, all were wonderful. Free room refreshments that included milk, water, caramel wafers and tea were updated daily.
We originally booked 3 rooms of the same type inside the castle, only to be told upon checking in that two of them are unavailable "due to maintenance issues" and we were upgraded to different rooms. The upgrade seemed marginal in terms of price and space, and we heard sounds coming from other castle rooms which were seemingly occupied by visitors and not under maintenance.
Overall there were some issues with rooms: the safe in one room wasn't working, the entrance door in another room had a gap which let the light from the corridor in, making it difficult to sleep, the shower handle was stuck in one position in the third.
Beautiful surroundings. The most attentive staff. Clean and comfortable.

Nothing at all
Unfortunately I had a breakdown on the morning of the visit. No flex in rebooking. Will not be booking again.
Breakfast was lovely, good choice of hot & cold. Scenery is stunning, even on a dull day
When entering dinning area there was a really bad drain smell

The bedding was damp on our bed. Couldnt get a bed at the spa people leaving towels on the beds and there was no one else in the water or saunas.
We had a very friendly welcome. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The view from the dining room and lounge and our small bedroom window were stunning. The breakfast and dinner were delicious with excellent service.
The only negative thing I would say is that the toilet in the en-suite was too near the radiator.

Service from bar staff to serving meals really bad
The room was very nice and both dinner and breakfast were of a very high quality. The spa was also excellent. The staff were pleasant.
The layout of the dining room was a bit weird and we asked to move to a different table (which the staff were happy to accommodate). The service during our dinner was very slow (they appeared to be understaffed) and overall the meal took too long. The selection of beers at the bar was very poor - there was no draught and no canned/bottled ales, only two options for bottled lager.
The staff, the room and facilities are you wonderful.
The vegan food was poorly executed and left a lot to the imagination.
Met in reception and they parked the car and took case to room, check in was quick, and room was ready on arrival, dinner was fine dining and very good, staff all pleasant and attentive, breakfast in the morning was continental buffet and hot food cooked to order.
Some of the furniture in the room was scruffy ie headboard had scuffs on the material and the coffee table was marked, tiles in the shower room floor were all marked and the paint work could be doing with a freshen up.
