Alpenkräuter Hotel Bären

We stayed 5 nights in July and enjoyed the hotel again as much as we had on our previous visits despite the major renovation/addition work being done (to be finished in the spring of 2027). The updated balcony room was really lovely (we especially enjoyed the clever lighting), and Theresa was very welcoming as always. The hotel restaurant continues to serve above average fare, much of which was quite good, and the service was excellent. Our one criticism is that the rather new emphasis on herbs (kräuter) is a bit extreme -- from, for example, a homemade ice cream that tastes like meadow grass to homemade breakfast jams that just don't quite satisfy. The chef from 4 summers ago is remembered as superior, but if alpine herbs are your thing, this is the place to dine!

The kitchen operates entirely under the strict “Fait Maison” certification, meaning everything is made 100% from scratch on-site using raw ingredients. Their commitment to fresh, homemade produce is extraordinary. They harvest fresh flowers, wild mushrooms, and alpine herbs directly from their own garden and the surrounding Wengen forests. They even ferment their own kombucha, preserve seasonal berries, and brew incredible homemade after-dinner liqueurs.The kitchen is led by the incredibly talented Chef Niels (who also acts as a heartwarming co-host). His innovative food refining, meticulous plating, and flavor pairings are absolutely worthy of a Michelin star. From the incredible sourdough amuse-bouche to the vibrant, herb-infused mains, every dish feels like a work of art.For a fantastic value, choose the half-board option. It allows you to select a daily rotating, homemade three-course menu straight from their stellar à la carte options. Combined with a breakfast spread packed with local alpine cheeses, this is a world-class gastronomic retreat disguised as a cozy mountain inn.

My husband and I loved nearly everything about our stay at Alpenkrauter! We had a room with a balcony, which I would highly recommend. The view is stunning. The bathroom and room were nicely sized. The attached restaurant is incredible and it was so nice to simply walk down the stairs for dinner after a day of hiking in the area. I was very concerned about the lack of air conditioning, but it was cool at night and leaving the window open did the trick. Minimal bugs came in. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Beautiful view out the side of the windows. Very good breakfast included, and the good restaurant in the hotel very friendly stuff very helpful. Will definitely come back if we visit Wengen again.

The staff was so nice and welcoming, it made our stay much more pleasant.

location, value for money, the hotel and rooms are clean, comfortable, cozy, updated, and some of them have a super view! Breakfast/coffee is great!

Fantastisk personal som tog så väl hand om oss - vi kände oss så välkomna och omhändertagna. Vi fick jättebra tips på saker att göra. Restaurangen och maten var underbar! När vi var där pågick renovering men det kommer att bli väldigt bra med nya takterrassen och rummen med sauna. Vi kommer absolut att bo där nästa gång vi kommer till Wengen.

My favorite part of the hotel was the incredible breakfast spread that was included with stay. This was a surprise to us and one that made every morning something to look forward to. Rooms and staff were great. Our room was a clean, efficient room that served our needs very well with an amazing view. I will stay here again if I get the chance to return.

Lovely staff, clean facilities and good breakfast

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Baren. The hotel room and view from the balcony are exactly as in the photo - although the view is even more spectacular! All staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful which made our stay that bit more special. It is evident that it is a family run hotel. We chose the half board option so enjoyed the food in the restaurant (although a 3 course meal every night is a lot of food!). We would definitely stay again if we are able to return to Switzerland and would highly recommend.

We were lucky that our stay was over the weekend as there is heavy construction underway and hammers start early. Room and view was fantastic, clean and easy to get to.

Absolutely wonderful! Loved everything about our rooms, the location, the views, the staff, the food, everything was amazing!
