Clean but noisy.
Pros:

Comfortable bed. Room and bathroom were very clean and comfortable.

Cons:

Very noisy. I expected noise Sat night but it was also really noisy Sunday night (people laughing really loudly in courtyard after midnight). Monday night was a bit quieter after about 10.30. I didnt imagine weeknights would be so noisy.

Friendly and chilled it’s a clean and straight forward winner
Pros:

Whilst it’s basic because it’s shared, it is clean, friendly, and very chilled. Beds are comfy. The Ori is legendary in so many ways and to stay upstairs from such a great pub in such a great area is quite a positive experience.

Cons:

I wish they did breakfast as the coffee shop over the road was closed when I stayed.

Wir hatten leider eine Kakerlake im Zimmer und das Licht in der Toilette geht schnell aus.

Pros:

Staff are superb, all of them. Have stayed here a few times now because it's a good spot and can eat/drink downstairs or go nearby to other cafes/restaurants.

Showers and toilets are clean and in good condition.

Friendly environment and seems to attract friendly guests. Trivia night etc. are fun and it's one of those places where it's easy to strike up a conversation if you want to have a chat with people.

Cons:

It's hot in summer as there is no aircon, just a fan.

Pros:

The location is excellent, with public transport very close by, market and many shops very close by as well.

Cons:

On Saturdays there is a bit of noise in the bar under the hotel, but after 10 p.m. everything is quiet.

Excellent, would definitely stay again.
Pros:

Great find in a nice area of Newcastle. I had a double room with shared bathroom above the pub and was very happy with it. The room had a comfy bed with decent pillows, TV, sofa and drawers. Bathrooms were kept in good condition and toiletries were provided. Also there was a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster so I could make my own breakfast and reheat meals. The pub itself was nice and had a different drink special every day, live music on weekends and the pizzas on offer were also very good! A couple of minutes walk to Darby Street with restaurants, shops and cafes, few more minutes to Civic Park and the tram stop to every where else. Would definitely stay here again!

Pros:

Great location, within walking distance to the beach, parks, CBD, and Darby street for cafes.
Wonderful staff (big shout out to Kiel) and helped out in anyway they could, they were super accommodating!
Rooms were cool, aircon was fitted in our room and is currently being fitted in other rooms.
The place was cleaned daily, communal kitchen and bathrooms were clean and always available to use. Kitchen had everything you’d need with crockery, cutlery, microwave, electric cooktop/frying pan and air fryer.
Great pizzas downstairs too!
Read other reviews about noise over weekend with live music but it didn’t bother us much in the rooms, and can always go and join in the fun!

Cons:

As with most communal fridges, some of our food went missing, this is not on the hotel staff but on other guests.

Genuine customer care, clean & comfort rooms, & walking distance to the beach, shops, & galleries.
Pros:

Caring & friendly customer service, & nothing is a problem.
Clean air condition rooms, bathrooms, & kitchen with complimentary coffee & tea, & their pizzas are yum!
The Oriental Hotel is now my place to stay when in Newcastle.
A big thank you to Kyle who when out of his way to be accommodating.
