Dreadful and unclean
Pros:

Despite booking a room with a balcony, we were given an interior room and scammed out of additional money for the pseudo-upgrade. The interior room's bathroom was grimy. The room with the balcony had condoms from the previous inhabitant. We requested the ironing service for the wedding reception we attended that evening at Unique Wedding nearby which was an utter fail. Attempts to resolve the issues with management/reception was pointless. A questionable establishment...

Good Value for Transit Hotel
Pros:

Our family of 4 adults stayed at this hotel for 1 night in transit through Ho Chi Minh City. I am rating this hotel base on the price versus the accommodation. The family room for 5 people is sectioned into 2 areas controlled by different light switches, and this helps a little bit if not everyone is sleeping at the same time. The room size is not overly spacious but comfortable. The male receptionist appears not too friendly, but he did request the cook to make egg sandwiches for us at 5 o’clock in the morning for our early flight. We were pleasantly surprised with the follow through.

Make sure the taxi driver drops you off on the corner of Bui Thi Xuan and Pham Van Hai, and not at the corner of Bui Thi Xuan and Le Van Sy. The latter requires that you walk through Bui Thi Xuan alley, which is not pleasant (as happened to us). You may have trouble finding a taxi at the airport as the ride is somewhat short and driver may not feel motivated.

Very bad area, decent rooms & good staff
Pros:

This was the first place we went to when we landed in Vietnam and it was very bad experience. We all felt so sad seeing the area the restaurant is situated in. We literally wanted go back home. nevertheless the staff were kind and helpful. the rooms were not so great but good enough for the money. Breakfast wasn't that great too. on the whole not a very good experience staying here.

Okay place to stay for a few days
Pros:

I was here for about 5 days, and it's quite a long time in a very small room without windows, but it's was as expected for this price. With a very, very friendly and good english speaking staff, it made my stay in HCMC a lot easier.
It doesn't have a fitness as it says here on trip advisor, and if you want to do laundry find somewhere else because it's very expensive at this hotel. The location is somewhat okay, but it's about 150k in a taxi every time you want to go to where the good stuff happens. Also the smoking arena is very small and has 4 fans blowing hot air directly in your face.. but all in all a good place to stay for a few days

Reasonable Budget Hotel
Pros:

Vuong Quang is a hotel close to Ho Chi Minh airport and located in a downmarket residential part of town. It is a budget location but a perfectly reasonable place to stay for those stopping over for a night for flights.

Getting to Vuong Quang is a bit of hassle. The hotel offers transfers but that was not obvious in advance. It is on a side road which is not necessarily known by taxi drivers. A few of the taxis at the airport refused to go such a short distance so inevitably there was overcharging. The side road the hotel is on is filled with motorbikes so it is not an easy place to explore.

Arrival was met with a flurry of activity. Staff rushing down the 10 or so steps to collect luggage and open taxi doors. English was just about spoken at reception but the strong Vietnamese accent makes conversations quite difficult.

A family room on the third floor had two queen beds and a single. There was a window with a view across the tops of the neighbourhood buildings as this is one of the higher structures in this low-rise area. There was AC and a small television which didn't have great reception.

The shower area was basic but functional. The shower did not take too long to warm up. It was clean enough though not especially attractive.

Water was available at a low cost in the minibar. 10k Dong for a bottle is not extortionate.

The beds were just about comfortable enough. A bit of stretching out was needed after sleeping but they did the job.

Breakfast was simple and a little crowded. Everyone seemed to be gathering for breakfast as soon as it opened at 7am. There was toast, butter, and jam as well as a few cooked options including fried eggs. Breakfast was enough rather than delicious but did the job.

Check in and out was pretty simple. It did not take too long for the process. Transfer back to the airport in the hotel's car was an easy option.

Vuong Quang is not an attractive hotel. It is a budget location but good for a a night's stay between flights. The hotel is not the easiest to find but it does not take long to get to and from the airport. It is a friendly and perfectly reasonable option for an overnight given its price.

Awful
Pros:

We're a couple travelling for 6 months, we didn't expect luxury with it being a 2 star hotel, but what we arrived to was a nightmare! We got to our room, it was way smaller than the photos of the room we booked on line. The bath room was covered in red ants, we found a nest in the corner of the shower. After soaking it with mosquito spray it seemed to do the trick and we tried to relax a little. Sat on the bed I then discovered red ants on the bed! We went onto our balcony to calm down and decide what we wanted to do, there was about 6 cigarette ends stubbed out and left on the floor, that and ALOT of hair which cringed me right out! We'd now had enough. We went to reception and explained how unhappy we were and that we'd like to go else where and find other accommodation, after a conversation going over and over the same things, with a language barrier in the way, it was clear we weren't aloud a refund but were offered a upgrade, this wouldn't be ready for a couple of hours. We went out for some dinner, returned to a much nicer room. Went to sleep, both to wake up every hour dripping in sweat because the air conditioning turned its self off every 30 minutes or so! This happened every night. We got up the next day and went to have breakfast before exploring the city. Breakfast was until 9:30am. We got to the hotel restaurant at 9am, nearly all the food was gone, the bread and jam that was left was covered in ants. We got up and left to have breakfast else where, which we had to do every morning. On the up side, the door men were lovely, and our experience in the city was great! Just a shame our accommodation was so stressful, we were thankful to leave!
