We had a warm and pleasant check-in experience, welcomed by a young man named Yaseen. He was very helpful and shared great tips for getting around the city, which we truly appreciated. The hotel is in a fantastic location—just a few minutes’ walk from the main road and the tram station.
However, there were a few aspects of our stay that could be improved. The room was quite small for three adults, with limited space to move around. Housekeeping also seemed a bit inconsistent; the beds were made, but the floor did not appear to be cleaned, and the bathroom unfortunately had an unpleasant smell.
Noise was another issue, as we could hear a lot from both outside and within the hotel, suggesting that the sound insulation may need attention. Breakfast was also below expectations, with limited choices and not enough seating. The staff mentioned that items were finished by 9:30am, even though breakfast was advertised until 10:30am.
Additionally, only one of the two lifts was working during our stay. I experienced getting stuck in one of them and reported it to reception, but it did not seem to be addressed.
We stayed for three nights and spent most of our time exploring the city, but these issues did affect our overall comfort. The décor of the hotel could also benefit from some updating.
While the location and staff welcome were highlights, our overall experience was less pleasant than expected. I hope the hotel can take these points into consideration for future improvements.
We don’t know where to begin. My dad had booked this hotel for us, as it had a 4 star rating and had pool/spa facilities. We were a family of 10 that had travelled from London to Istanbul for the October Half Term.
On the night we checked in, we had issues with the rooms we booked, as they weren’t suitable for the number of guests we had in our group. We had booked one ‘superior triple room’ which was meant to have 3 single beds, but there was a double bed and a single bed instead. Also, the ‘superior double room’ wasn’t big enough for 3 guests, as we had to been led to believe when booking. The staff member who booked us in was also very rude and arrogant, he wasn’t wearing a name tag either. We had arrived at the hotel from the airport around midnight, so it was unnecessary stress to be disputing with hotel staff at that hour. After much back and forth, we were given an extra temporary room for the night. The next morning, there were 2 staff members that did assist us with our ‘superior double room’ issue - their names were Yasin and Kadir, and they were patient and helpful throughout our stay. The solution, in the end, was just to add an extra bed in our double room.
There were a number of inconveniences and issues with the rooms themselves. They looked nothing like the pictures and weren’t very easy to move in due to their small size. The water pressure was pretty terrible for the showers and bidets, and on one afternoon the water was cut completely!
The cleaning staff, however, were very friendly and were good in replacing our towels, water bottles and toiletries adequately. At one point, there was a shortage of water bottles, so water pouches (they looked like pudding cups) were given at the lobby upon request.
For one of our rooms, we had plumbing issues for three consecutive days. The toilet wouldn’t flush. We also had a power cut in two of the family rooms that we booked, this happened on the night we arrived.
We also found it quite strange that the bathrooms inside the rooms were see through. The glass had minimal frosting, and the door was a swing door that didn’t lock. This isn’t suitable for a family room, as you can literally see someone taking a shower or using the toilet.
We had booked breakfast with our stay - the breakfast area was very small and there was a queue to get a table every morning. The food options were decent, there was a mix of cheeses, fruits, baked goods and hot food. There was also drinks machine that dispensed water, coffee and fruit juices.
In terms of the pool and spa facilities at the hotel, the pool was shockingly small for one that is open to both hotel guests and the public. The steam room and sauna facilities were also quite cramped, and the steam room itself didn’t work very well.
The superior room size is about 10-12m2. Toilet stinks. Breakfast room needs better cleaning. The website and Internet presentation doesn't match reality. 2 stars, never 4! Kind staff however.
Exceptionally warm and professional welcome to the heart of Sultanahmet. We picked this hotel for the location as it is just a 5 minute walk from Sultanahmet Square. It is beautifully appointed in the lobby and our room was on the small side but perfectly suited to our long weekend. I would expect any hotel room in the depths of any old town in a city like Istanbul to be small anyway! The bed was very comfortable, AC very welcome, and it was quiet. Bathroom could do with replacement sink/toilet but was serviceable and the shower hot and easy to use. The breakfast room also needs renovation but the view makes up for a lot! We ended up eating out for breakfast after the first day as it was a bit cramped and busy for us and the food whilst ok didn't feel worth the queue and hectic start to the day. Breakfast also started a bit late for us at 8.30 which is when we wanted to be at the big attractions to miss the worst of the crowds anyway.
Finally the other lure was the pool and spa. The pool area was good but the pool itself is difficult to get around and in and out of due to the room layout and a wobbly ladder! Despite this, these facilities were a welcome retreat from the bustle of Istanbul and the pool itself was clean and lovely. Also it is the best hammam I've ever had and one of the best massages too.
I think all in all some of the facilities need some repairs/replacements and if you're looking for UK 4 star accomodation you will not get that. BUT if you want a comfortable stat with a host of great staff to look after you and who will go out of their way to help you navigate Istanbul, and be located right in the heart of it all with a little pool at your disposal then I can't recommend better. Thank you so much for a wonderful long weekend Great Fortune ❤️
We stayed at this hotel recently and unfortunately the overall experience was disappointing. The property itself felt quite old and worn out, from the furniture to the bedding, which didn’t feel fresh or comfortable.
While the staff was polite and helpful throughout our stay, several facilities were not up to standard. A baby cot was not available on the first night, and when provided the next day, it appeared unclean and too small for our baby’s height. The iron board was tiny, the bin lid didn’t work properly, and the TV wasn’t functioning at all.
Breakfast was below average with limited variety, and there were no baby-friendly options such as porridge. For families traveling with young children, this was a major drawback.
Overall, despite the kind staff, the condition of the hotel and its amenities fell short of expectations.
Odalar temiz.personel güleryüzlü ve ilgili. Kahvaltı normal ama yer problemi var masalar yeterli değil.
I had a truly wonderful experience at the Great Fortune Hotel & Spa. The hotel itself is in a fantastic location, offering both comfort and convenience, but what made my stay especially memorable was the outstanding service provided by the staff.
A very special thanks goes to Bunyamin, the receptionist, whose professionalism, kindness, and genuine hospitality made me feel welcomed from the very first moment. He went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect during my stay. His attention to detail, warm smile, and helpful guidance truly elevated my experience.
I would also like to sincerely thank his colleague Sarkan, who was equally attentive and courteous. Together, they created an atmosphere of comfort and trust, making me feel at home even while being away.
The hotel facilities, cleanliness, and spa experience were excellent, but it is the outstanding team spirit and dedication of Bunyamin and Sarkan that I will always remember. They are a real credit to the hotel, and because of them, I would not hesitate to recommend Great Fortune Hotel & Spa to anyone visiting Istanbul.
I look forward to returning soon.
I had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel during my recent trip to Istanbul. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to iconic sites like **Hagia Sophia**, the **Blue Mosque**, and the **Grand Bazaar**. It made exploring the historic heart of the city incredibly easy and enjoyable.
What made the experience truly unforgettable, though, was the **outstanding service**, especially from **Bunyamin and Sarkan**. These two went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and stress-free. Always friendly, helpful, and professional, they made me feel genuinely welcome and well cared for. Whether it was assisting with directions, arranging transport, or simply checking in to make sure everything was going well—they were fantastic.
The room was clean, quiet, and cozy—perfect after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast was fresh and generous, with a nice variety to suit all tastes.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Istanbul. The location is perfect, and with amazing staff like Bunyamin and Sarkan, you can count on a first-class experience. I’ll definitely return!
Very helpful staff and would highly recommend. And thank you to Gurkan and team. Also hammam was reasonably prices with 20% extra of for residence.
Ruime en propere kamer. Heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Zeer goede ligging dichtbij de Hagia Sofia. De spa was ook top.

It was very good, near from historic center. Very comfort staff, helping.
Beautiful view from the kitchen
Not very expensive.
A pleasent stay with a helpful reception and great location.a highly recommended.
"With its comfortable rooms and friendly staff, this hotel, which values everyone’s satisfaction, was ideal for making our holiday the best it could be. I recommend it."
It was great — right in the city center, everyone was friendly, and the reception staff were very helpful, showing us the tourist spots on the map.
