The fruit salad
The Lodge attempts a wood cabin effect and largely fails, particularly in the bedrooms which are gloomy, tired and basic. It’s located in the midst of an industrial estate near a series of car show rooms. These do at least provide interest, if you like cars, on the 20-25 minute walk into town. Predictably, the breakfast provided standard fare. Scrambled eggs and anaemic sausages in stainless steel containers etc. Oh and the staff didn’t exactly go out of their way to be friendly. On the upside the fruit salad wasn’t tinned and we could park our car. Nevertheless, £150 for one night seemed more than a trifle expensive.
Location far enough out of Ypres but very walkable
Free car park which is rare in this area
Rooms are little dark
I have used this hotel many times. Although out of the centre of Ypres, this is made up for by plenty of space, and a pleasant environment, thoughtfully landscaped. While the adjacent buildings are light industry, the location is exceptionally calm and quiet. The hotel makes very good use of its space, separating solo and small group visitors from school parties, who have their own adjacent building. The rooms are of a good size with modern and clean facilities. The staff are extremely helpful and breakfast was generous and varied. There is also good parking, although it can be a little pressured at its busiest. It is very easy to get to by car, as it is just off the town ring road. I have not eaten in the restaurant, but the bar is friendly and well stocked - prices reflective of inflation across the board in recent years. It attracts a friendly clientele both local and international - often popular with touring cyclists and motorcyclists. I would recommend Flanders Lodge warmly.
Helpful and friendly staff. Location in quiet area but not far from city centre.
