The view is great and the staff is very friendly. The property needs some upgrading but once that is done it can be a very good location
Good place for a relatively good price. Shower heads were quite dated
The assigned room was poorly arranged and furnished. The bed OK to sleep on but the rest of the furniture was trash. the tv had no knobs, an ancient model and did not work. The fridge was rusty inside and out and was not working and unplugged. Some furniture was missing doors. Balcony chairs were card Table chairs with a nylon cover disguise. construction garbage around the property and next to the entrance. cracks in the floor tile. Unfinished tile shower repairs with 5 different patterns of tile. No drinking glasses or ice or coffee or breakfast accommodation.
we suspect the hotel was overbooked. Why would Expedia be booking overpriced rooms in such a poorly run and poorly equipped hotel. I have pictures to prove all this. Not enough parking available our car had to be parked out of the property overnight
Reasonably priced but needs some upgrades
Older property has more of feel of guesthouse or dormitory. My room was very spacious with microwave. The shower has shutters which didn't close so there were some flies and bugs but no mosquitoes so it didn't bother me. The balcony was nice but the sliding door was off its wheels so it was very hard to move. Staff is very helpful and accommodated a late check out request. About 10 minute walk to ferry and 20 to the small downtown. In a safe residential area, there is a restaurant a few minutes by foot but nothing else around commercially.
It had roaches in the bathroom sink and shower the bed was not good shakes
The hotel seemed to still be recovering from Irma. There were broken fixtures in the room.
I originally booked this hotel through Hotels.com for a one-night stay. When I checked in, the male desk clerk asked if I was traveling alone. I refused to answer, and he kept pushing the issue. Instead of telling me my room number and handing me the key, he walked me to the room (even though I requested he not do that), and entered the room after me to "turn on the air conditioning." The balcony door did not close all the way and the entry door did not lock securely. I made the decision to find a different hotel as I did not feel safe staying at Hotel Castle Maria. When I checked out approximately 20 minutes after arriving, I was greeted by a different male clerk who became very pushy and rude when I told him I would like to check out of the hotel. He repeatedly asked me where I was going and what hotel I planned to stay at. When I got home from my trip, I filed a claim with Hotels.com who attempted to negotiate a refund on my behalf. The claims representative reported that the hotel manager would not issue a refund because I stayed several hours and left after midnight without checking out or filing a complaint. This is patently false and confirms the unsettling feeling I had during my very brief time at the property. Don't bother with this hotel. There are other options in Road Town. You can't put a price on safety--spend the extra money to stay somewhere reputable.
Hotel was located within walking distance of ferries. Staff was awesome!!
Clean, dated room adequate for a short stay, wouldn't want to make it a base for an extended vacation. Not sure what impact the hurricane has had although indications are that it's one of the few places that escaped major damage.
Hotel staff could not be more friendly & helpful. Great food at newly opened third floor restaurant.Excellant view of Road Harbour & Road Town.
I would like to point out the fact that we have tried out a couple of low budget accomodations in Road Town. Of all of them, this is by far the best. It's not very fancy, you probably wouldn't want it for your honeymoon, bit it's clean and best value for money. And it has hosts who care about their guests, and that is, on Tortola, not easy to find. We actualy owe Izac & Andrew quite a lot. We booked a room for the upcoming Storm. Nobody knew that Irma would hammer the BVI and that most houses (and lots of accomodations) would loos their roofs, their windows. Nobody thought that the Supermarkets, the Restaurants would be closed for days. Castle Maria kept its roof, its windows and after enduring the 6 hour storm there was a knock on the door and that there was food for everyone who was hungry. And this continued day after day. Whoever was hungry, was invited to eat. No questions asked. Isac & Andrew, thankyou. For realy caring about your guests.
Clean, pleasant hotel within walking distance of the ferry. Not too much, not too little.A place to put your head for the night. The swimming pool is a nice touch, although I personally did not take a dip. There is also a serviceable bar with cold $4 beers.
I wouldn't recommend even if you're desperate. It's like an oversea's low budget youth hostel. The staff however is extremely nice and accommodating. The rate I booked was not honored, I was stuck so I had to pay it. Shady operation. Lots of bugs on the floor and in my bed. Noisy. But the staff is nice! :)
Entry door not secure, has lock that any body can pick,, room smell of smoke , bath room tile is commimg off...... I could stay no more than one night so i will be calling u expedia for my three day money back refund
Our room was very basic at $500 a week. (you get what you pay for) Bed, tv, small outdoor patio. Ours did not have a kitchenette or even a microwave or coffee pot, just a mini fridge. Our shower did not drain, even after notifying the front desk. We stayed for a week and noticed that every time towels were changed, they were stained, so we used our own. There is a big pool, but we didn't feel comfortable enough to swim in it. It looks like it needs some TLC and lots of chlorine. I only gave it a third star because the staff was very friendly and also because it is a short walk to town and the ferry. Overall, this is a place solely to rest your head.
Very basic hotel. Good for a night or two if you need to be close to downtown.
No internet provided by this hotel even though it said free WiFi when I was purchasing this hotel. That was quite dissapointing
My recommendation for this hotel is highly rated. My son n myself took my husband to celebrate his birthday in the BVI . We choose Hotel Castle Maria . The hospitality was great. The room we were given was just right. View from the hotel is fabulous. We were treated nice by Andrew n his team. Thanks everyone at Hotel Castle Maria.
