I paid £120 (discounted rate) for the privilege of staying in a room with this bathroom. The towels were stained too. I’ll leave that with you.
Firstly it was difficult to get through the heavy double doors with two bags. The superior room was initially freezing cold, it was early January and no one had turned the heating on. Not a good start.
All food was in the bar area, and when I asked for a cocktail I was told they were not allowed to make one.
The meals we had were reasonable, but at breakfast I was told I couldn’t have a certain dish till 10 am. The cappacino was dreadful
All staff were polite helpful and sympathetic.
We came as a couple for Sunday lunch and stayed the evening and had breakfast in the morning. The hotel was lovely, friendly, professional staff very warm and welcoming. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious, great value for money. Our room was lovely, we were upgraded to a canal side room which was spacious, big bed and tastefully decorated with an excellent view. Later on I ordered a pizza for the room, it was also very nice. In the morning we had a self serve breakfast which again was tasty and bountiful. The whole experience was very relaxing and very enjoyable. The hotel has a good atmosphere, they is a pool and a steam room, although we didn’t use these facilities. I can and do recommend a stay here, we will definitely return.
Went for a sunday dinner with a deal we got on groupon. The service was lovely such a nice view & the food was really tasty. great value for money & a lovely vibe out on a sunday .
We really enjoy the Skipton Hotel , the rooms are fab especially overlooking the Canal . The staff are all so Lovely from the House keepers to the Reception staff , Sharon and the young boy are very helpful .
Food is good , and they are so accommodating with our two dogs .
I can’t wait to go back
Nicola and Steve .
Stayed at the Skipton Hotel yesterday evening for dinner bed and breakfast it was absolutely amazing. We were greeted at reception by Sharon the reception manager with a warm welcome and a smile😊 Breakfast this morning was fabulous with a selection of fresh fruit and cereal’s followed by a traditional English breakfast buffet- super value! This is one Hotel everyone should explore on a visit to Skipton would definitely recommend.
We decided to stay at the Skipton Hotel as we love Yorkshire, and to be fair, on arrival the staff were very welcoming and polite. First impressions of the hotel were good, with plenty to do if you had the time – swimming pool, gym, and fitness classes available.
We dined in the hotel in the evening and the food was nice, making for a pleasant meal. Breakfast, however, wasn’t the best. There was plenty of variety, but unfortunately the food was only lukewarm, which was disappointing.
Now to the rooms. The rooms themselves were spacious, with a decent-sized TV and a sofa, which was a plus. The bathroom was okay but nothing amazing if I’m honest. The biggest downside was the bed – it was extremely uncomfortable, like sleeping on plywood. It was an old-style divan bed and incredibly hard, which made it difficult to get any sleep.
As if the bed wasn’t enough, the fire alarm went off at around 4am. We rushed out of bed, only for it to stop a few moments later. Then about 10 minutes later, it went off again. When checking outside, there was no one at the assembly point, which made it seem like a very odd time to be testing an alarm system.
To summarise, the staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The rooms were spacious but definitely need better beds. Evening meals were fine, breakfast was a bit of a flop, but the hotel is well located, central to everything, and offers plenty of facilities on site.
The rooms were tired and need updating. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely young man James however the service was downhill from there. We had to eat our evening meal in the lounge as they didn’t open the restaurant due to lack of numbers. The service was average. We had a deal with TUI and part of the deal was a glass of prosecco which we had to ask for 3 times. The following morning (29th) we asked reception about where to eat breakfast. The receptionist was quite cold giving us a basic description of where to go. Upon checking out she gave us no eye contact and again was unfriendly. Unfortunately I won’t be staying there again. The only positive was the young man James who greeted us on reception.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable three nights. The room was spacious and clean with plenty of storage. The bathroom was big with a bath and over bath shower and lashings of hot water. There is a reasonable priced well stocked bar. The restaurant is comfortable with views over the canal and first rate food. All the staff we encountered had excellent costumer service skills and are a credit to the hotel, a special mention for Fallon, Jack (restaurant and bar) and Sharron on reception.
We stayed at Skipton hotel and looked forward to a wonderful Christmas and New year break , unfortunately my husband was admitted to Airdale hospital with a heart attack , l would like to praise the Skipton hotel for they kind care and help that we recieved, everyone from Hospitality reception and everyone else , we we were so well looked after, nothing was too much trouble , your Manager was so kind and considerate , my husband is recovering well and will definitely return for another visit ,
Excellent family Christmas dinner..there were 10 plus 3 children. Christmas dinner on mass is normally sub standard..but this year we were so pleased we had booked the Skipton hotel..everything was perfect! The atmosphere was really festive the team were professional and so friendly..even though they were working on Christmas day..nothing was too much trouble..Santa arriving with gifts for the children, finished our Christmas day perfectly! We would highly recommend
Having enjoyed a previous visit, we booked for the 3 night Christmas break. Over 200 were being served lunch on Christmas Day so service was slow, although the team did their best to food seemed ok, but later we both suffered what I can only think was food poisoning. As we had only eaten at the hotel for 2 days we reported this to reception. The hotel said that no one else was ill and so our break was ruined: missed meals and entertainment, and no compensation. . Needless to say, we will not be returning.
A colleague and I stayed in two rooms for one night for a business trip 12th January. We were met by a friendly chap on check in who asked us if we were happy to stay in a ground floor room, we were.
Rooms 102 and 104 were next to each other on the ground floor just along from reception, the pictures are from 104 and are both of similar furnishing. The rooms are severely dated, dirty in places and had a clear lack of attention in the preparation for a guest checking in.
The most disappointing part was finding an open mouldy UHT milk capsule next to the kettle, this to my knowledge is unlikely to have occurred within a day so would suggest the room has lay empty a few days. To add, furniture is dated and dirty.
The rooms were freezing, I attempted to adjust mine late in the evening where I received an electric shock from the controller! Thankfully, the bed appeared clean otherwise I’d have requested to change room altogether. Sleep was poor due to an uncomfortable mattress. Looking at the images on TripAdvisor it would appear other rooms are better kept and more modern.
Onto the positives, friendly staff at check in, within the bar area and at breakfast in the morning. Breakfast selection was varied and of good quality. An immediate offer of filtered coffee and toast as we sat down was well received.
Overall I think after travelling 4-5 hours down from Scotland in the future I’d choose somewhere else, but can appreciate that things like room improvements appear to be a “work in progress”
Here for a close family member funeral - visiting from Suffolk.
Needed a dog friendly room and also booked a suite.
Dog friendly room is smelly - not acceptable.
Suite ok but cleaning fluid left in bathroom.
Restaurant - hardly any choice of wine - ended up going with what was suggested. Rather think that’s all they had!
No burgers for the little one and we waited an age to be served in an empty restaurant !
I’m from Keighley originally and I had rather hoped for a better experience for myself and my family.
Can’t wait to go back home to Suffolk !!!
We have just returned from a two night stay, on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast deal.
I was a bit dubious after reading some of the reviews, but I could honestly not find anything to moan about.
The Hotel is a bit dated in certain areas, but nothing a lick of paint couldn't fix, our Room was fine, the headboard was a bit scratched, but the room was clean, and the beds and pillows were comfy, the TV was a good standard, and the WiFi was the best I've ever had in any Hotel, which was handy, because I had my Firestick with me.
We used the Pool and Sauna one day, which was okay, but also a little dated, but take a padlock with you for the lockers, if your leaving any valuables in it, as you have to bring your own lock.
We couldn't fault the food, or the size of the portions, we had a limited menu three course meal on New Years Day, due to a shortage of staff, but it was really nice, on our second night, we were able to order off the normal menu, and the Food was really good quality, you get £30 per person allowance, off the price, but we thought the meals were very reasonably priced, and only went a few pound over.
The Bar prices were reasonable as well in my opinion, especially for a Hotel.
There did seem to be a bit of a staff shortage, but the staff we met all worked very hard, and we're friendly.
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Skipton Hotel, and would definitely return.
(It is a bit of a hike into Skipton, use the Canal Towpath, it's a bit quicker)
We arrived to a lovely reception, decorated well and very clean. The receptionist was helpful but it doesn't state anywhere that you have to pay extra for a dog. You only get told that when you arrive.(We booked via booking.com). You don't get a view of the canal unless you pay for higher tier rooms which didn't bother me as you could easily just leave the hotel and walk for 30 seconds to see it. We had dinner upstairs in the bar area as dogs aren't allowed in the restaurant which is completely understandable. The food was delicious, that's probably the only thing this place has going for it to be honest. I'm only basing it on my experience. Our room was clean, had patio doors that didn't open but we stayed in January so it was freezing outside. The bed however, was a clear reminder of how companies don't really like spending money. It was 2 singles pushed together. A horrible gap in the middle and they tried to cover it up by using a mattress topper. I think this is a disgusting way to treat guests to be honest. Claiming it's a large double when it's 2 singles. During the night, a very large and noisy group were next door partying in their room until 3am. I tried going to the front desk but no one was to be found on the 2 occasions I went. Unfortunately I won't be staying here again, nor will I be recommending this hotel to anyone.
At the moment dreadful. We are still waiting for a room at almost 5.00pm when check in is supposed to be 3! Was told we would have a room in half an hour then. 1.5 hours later someone else was in it! Kept ringing for updates and no-one called us back. Then went to reception who had to find us another room which also wasn't ready. Faulty towers would be better than this. Supposed to be a relaxing new year break. If u thinking of coming for New year forget it! Will update again after my stay, hope it improves.
Really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really helpful, Sharon was amazing. The breakfast was great, loads of choice. We stayed in a family room, the beds were really comfortable.
Stayed for the 3 night Christmas residential package with my partner, daughter & dog. From the moment we arrived we loved it & found the whole experience magical, it was a real treat. All of the staff were great, we had a really spacious room, food was superb & the hotel was very dog friendly too. It was ideally located for Skipton, we took a Boxing Day walk along the canal into the centre of town. Could not have asked for a better experience & we will definitely be back.
Despite ringing before booking and being told that their Christmas deal include meals for all four of us, was told in arrival it would only be for two. Was then basically told I should be grateful that they were going to ‘upgrade’ our room to give us enough beds as they had also made a mistake and put us in a room for only three. (Also ‘Prosecco on arrival’ was a bottle to take and drink on our bed in our room.)
Disappointing Christmas ‘treat’.
