I am really surprised by the reviews mentioning "helpful staff" in this hotel. Unfortunately, it was not the case for me.
As I entered the hotel, there were a few people sitting on the couch and watching TV, I thought they were the residents. I waited for a minute or so, and then one of the "residents" came to the counter.
I told him that I had a booking via hotels.com. Without a greeting or any sort of acknowledgement, he asked how much did I pay?
I showed him the receipt and he took me to a room.
The room was spacious, and it looked clean. So I unpacked and decided to take a shower. The bathroom was full of mould. I went downstairs and found the staff was lying on the couch with his feet up.
I told him about the issue and asked him to switch to a different room.
He was not happy with my request because I had "already used the room". and he followed me to the room to check. I kid you not, he tried to rub the mould from the shower head with his bare fingers!!!
As he was rubbing the mould I asked him for a different room. I also told him that I am happy to take the towel I unfolded with me so that he can switch the folded one in this room.
He reluctantly offered me a new room which was smaller but the bathroom looked cleaner than the previous one.
I was very hungry so I went for a bite to eat. When I returned, I discovered that the toilet paper was hard- as if somebody dropped it in water and left it to dry. Also, the room stank of cigerattes.
There was no internet either.
When I went downstairs and told him about the toilet paper and smell, I told him that I had paid for the deluxe double room but I am happy to take the smaller room without the stench of smoke.
I was hoping he would offer me a different room, instead,
he was visibly annoyed and handed me a roll of toilet paper.
I went upstairs and decided to leave.
As I came downstairs, he was flicking channels on the TV. When I told him that I am checking out as I am not happy. He didn't speak a word.
Luckily I got a refund from hotels. com.
I don't know whether I was caught up on his bad day, or he was a new member of the team. I gave him several opportunities to rectify the problems, He failed on each and every step.
The great location is the only positive thing here. The customer service was non-existent and none of the two rooms matched the pictures.
Based on this experience, I don't recommend this hotel. There are several better ones around.
We stood in this hotel 3 nights and we had lots of requests: trekking, air tickets, permits, airport pickups, finding good guide/porter, buying medicine, exchange money, covid test. Everything was no problem for Sanket and we enjoyed our stay in Nepal hassle free. Recommend
Me an my friends was in thamel last week .we just came for official work and because of late paper proces we need to stay in thamel and find hotel Bubo. It is so lovely place with great location.if you are planning to stay in tthamel steps here it can be good for you.
Thamel is a frantic place, but this hotel made it a nicer place to stay. Be aware that they do try very hard to recommend the restaurants that they have some kind of connection with. However all and all it is a very friendly bunch of stuff, they fed us well and told us the best places to go in Kathmandu. Nepal is a very friendly country, and this was no exception, it also has a fantastic rooftop for good views over the city and shocking stargazing because of the smog! For light sleepers, it is situated next to a nightclub which may make sleeping difficult...
Great location in Tamil; the tourist hub of Kathmandu. Surrounded by restaurants, takeaways, bars and clubs, it is the perfect location to explore and get a dive into the culture of Kathmandu.
The hotel was clean, well staffed, and well decorated. The room we stayed in felt secure, and had all the amenities needed.
I would definitely stay in Hotel Bubo Himalaya if i came back to Kathmandu in the future.
We stayed at Bubo several times over our travels through Nepal, and loved it! The staff make this place feel like home, they are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We even arrived a day earlier than planned on one occasion and they had already reserved our favourite room in readiness! A perfect welcome!
The hotel has a fabulous location in central Thamel and is very reasonably priced, we will definitely stay here when we are back next time, thank you!
Stayed for a few days. The staff are its greatest asset. Very friendly and they are so helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are so comfortable. Loved the comfortable matress, airconditioning and the hot shower. They make a great coffee too. I cried when I left especially when the lovely lady on reception gave me a hug. Thank you for a lovely time and look forward to seeing you again next year.
Deux nuits passées dans cet hôtel, la première nuit sans douche chaude ! nuits assez bruyantes du fait de sa proximité d'un carrefour au coeur de la vieille ville, jusqu'à 23 h et à partir de 5h.
Perfect location in the centre of Káthmandu - Tamel Hotel is very clean, newly and comfortly furnished including new bathrooms. Stuff is very helpful and kind. Excellnet buffet breakfasts, great services.
Bubo Himalaya hosted us and our organization since early May, and in September still accommodating us and our needs as we try to work in after-disaster recovery efforts outside of Kathmandu. Despite vibrant and busy Thamel, Bubo Himalaya offers a peaceful and calm atmosphere that is further enhanced by ever so helpful and super kind hotel personnel. Always recommended, for long and short stay in Thamel.
Perfect location of the hotel in Thamel (the best place for exploring the city), very close (5 min. walk) to nice green oasis in Kathmandu (Garden of dream) and good walking distance to Basanpatur Durbar Square. The hotel was very clean and quite despite location in quite busy place – Thamel. Big nice room with air-condition and wide comfortable bed. Hot watter and electricity was working for the whole day! Very nice breakfast is served there (I had the best sausage in Nepal there). All staff and especially owner are very friendly and helpful. They helped us to organize our stay in Nepal (secured transportation, guide, porter, safari, air tickets etc.). You can leave some of your not needed luggage there during your trek (free of charge) and pick them up after you come back.
Owner´s brother operates other hotel in Chitwan and provides safari there so you can easily secure everything on the one place.
Good clean rooms ,good breakfast ,excellent location and very convenient distance from both durbar square and swayambhunath temple,oh i forgot to mention about the garden of dreams .in short this hotel is budget yet very clean with very well behaved attendants.
Very cozy and nice place right in the center of Kathmandu. Our room was very clean, staff was friendly and helpful, very tasty food in restaurant. Administrator explain to us how to go to main sightseeing. Thank you for such a good experience, we would like to come back again!
I used this hotel for 6 of my volunteers for two nights. The rooms are small but well decorated with new bathrooms and a reception area. Breakfast was a buffet style with toast, eggs, beans and tea or coffee. Apart from the eggs being a little under done the breakfast was good and the service pretty fast. The hotel is just down a side ally under Momo hut and Mohans tattoo shop so its a little more quite than the ones on the main roads. There are so many places to stay in Thamel with various prices but Budo is one that I think is the right price for the service.
Unfortunately our experience wasn't as good as the other reviewers. Our room on the 4th floor
smelled so bad it was almost unbearable. The foul odor was seeping from the bathroom, and I believe it was coming from the sewer. We reported it the first night and they did manage to stop the odor, but it came back the next night. We had to fill the gaps of the bathroom door with towels since we did not want to change rooms just before sleep. In order to use the bathroom we had to hold the breath and run in and out.
Another issue was heating. The nights were cold and we needed to use the wall heater. There was no remote nor any instructions how to use it. A person (perhaps a manager?) came to our room with a remote, He appeared annoyed and said he may have to charge us extra money for the heat. He struggled with the remote until he got the heat working, Before he left he stated in an unfriendly manner "it's working now". and with no explanation how to use the remote.
The third issue was the pounding noise coming from some neighborhood disco until around midnight. We heard this sound both our nights.
Without these issues the hotel could have been a good place to stay. The location in Thamel was good with a walking distance to Durbar Square, many shops and restaurants. The desk staff was nice although not very knowledgeable.
Hotel Bubo Himalaya is placed in the centre of town Kathmandu, in Thamel quarter. Despite of this position it is very friendly and quiet place. Friendly staff of the hotel is always prepared to assist with all questions, including trip planning. Breakfasts are rich and tasty, rooms (including bathroom) in the hotel are clean and enjoyable.
Very nice hotel in european style with good service. People are very kind and friendly. Fine rooms with TV and aircondition. European breakfast buffet. It features a rooftop terrace with comfortable quiet seating.
Perfect location in the centre of Tamel - dream of any turist coming to Kathmandu. Hotel is clean, newly and comfortly furnished including new bathrooms. Stuff is very helpful and kind. Tasty buffet breakfasts, great services. Great value for moderate price. If I´m coming to Kathmandu again, I´ll definitelly use services of this hotel again.
