Hotel staff were surprised when I checked in as a single female and after seeing the room I realised why. The lock on the door had been broken and was not fixed, the windows on a first floor room did not close - this meant the room was 40 degrees Celsius and raised security concerns. There was a mysterious door in the room that led to a balcony guests could not access and the bathroom had not been cleaned after someone had used the toilet. This is not the safe 4 star hotel I was expecting.
Good Alternative to the expensive 5 star hotels in Abuja
This hotel is ideal if you want a place to rest and stay while in Abuja. If you are aware that your expectations should be adjusted to the city and place of your visit. I was looking for a clean place to stay while there, the hotel is clean, I ate in the restaurant and the food was fresh, well prepared and the service staff went out of their way to deliver service with a smile. If you are looking for the Ritz-like facilities, this is not your place, do not expect alcohol or compare the hotel to US or EU standards, but it works f you are looking for a place to sleep. Internet speed and quality was suitable. Bring your own soap, shampoo etc as well.
Service is very good. Facilities are reasonable. Internet access is OK but not great. Room was a good size and clean. Bed was comfortable.
Food in restaurant and café is limited and does not cater to international clientele.
Bathroom had poor quality finish but was clean. Badly grouted tiles; poor repairs where fittings had been changed; no light over sink/mirror.
I was astonished that the hotel serves no alcoholic beverages. Nothing in their website indicates this.
While the wait staff in the dining room are terribly polite and condescending, they have very little concept of life in the "western" world. When I learned the dining room serves no wine, I asked for a Coke. The waiter said they do not have Coke. I learned later that they have Pepsi Cola. The waiter was unable to advise me of that very reasonable substitute for Coke.
My dinner that evening took 1hr and 10 minutes to prepare.
The next night I ordered a different dish from the list of a dozen or so "western" dishes; it was "unavailable". So I ordered another western dish; it was unavailable. The same for a third western dish. Finally I asked what WAS available. Only the club sandwich. That's what I ate for three meals in a row.
They have a bar in the front lobby, but the barman serves only soft drinks and non-alcoholic wine. On my way up to my room after a day's outing, I asked for a coke to take with me. The barman would not allow me to take the bottle with me. He insisted that one of his staff take the bottle (and glass) to my room for me.
