The old mill
We love to start with the facts that it had a swimming pool and how close it is to Cambridge city centre.
And the rooms were to get our taste when booking hotel.
We didn’t have air conditioning in our room.
It’s such a shame we booked for one of the hottest days of the year so far - we will love to experience this hotel in the winter
The room was lovely size and we had a small fenced court yard area outside the French doors which was lovely. Bed was comfy and cos it was a hot day the ceiling fan (albeit a little noisy) was welcomed at night to aid sleep.
The bath was a whirlpool bath but wasn’t working which was disappointing as this was one of the reasons we chose the room. The spa was a little tired around the pool and there was a huge wasp nest in the ceiling above the pool so there were lots inside claiming the wall and dead in the floor.
The pool, sauna, spa and gym were great.
I didn’t use the ‘spa’ facilities (eg massage ) so can’t comment
Food at the restaurant was very good.
Prices on the high end - but we splurged for the stay as a mini holiday.
First room we were put in had no aircon - and for the middle of summer and over 34 degrees that was a killer.
Asked to move rooms - had to wait until the next day. The aircon barely worked but was slightly manageable. At least housekeeping didn’t have to change the bed linen as we slept on top all night haha.
Was disappointed being told we had to pay for parking per day out on a massive estate in the countryside. The first receptionist wasn’t even helpful to assisting with the app I apparently had to download to pay for the parking (and as a foreigner it didn’t accept my details), the next receptionist was much more helpful
room larger than average hotel room
Breakfast - a good selection
Staff - very helpfull - managed to find some food even after kitchen had closed
The wonderful Charles! And rooms were pretty and well appointed. Gorgeous bar area and outside space.
It was ridiculously hot; I appreciate it was a heatwave, but for the price point, air conditioning would be lovely it was hotter than Satan’s armpit in my room, so I came home a night early.
The staff were exceptional. Friendly, smiled and spoke to everyone, proactively speaking to guests. Nothing was too much trouble.
Two points. One, the windows in the bedrooms, main areas and especially the spa needed cleaning. Secondly, the menu in the restaurant was over priced for the quality of dishes available.
Location and brilliant staff
Nothing
Location to Cambridge park and ride is good clean and tidy hotel nice staff
Having to pay to park in the hotel car park via ring go for parking each day was ridiculous
Not much
Small room small tv small bathroom
The location was pretty and the restaurant was nice
The bed was uncomfortable. Pillows were awful we had to go out to buy our own. And the room wasn’t cleaned to a great standard it was still dirty in areas. Felt like it was just wiped to look clean rather than acctually cleaned
The hotel layout and gardens were lovely. Aircon in main guest areas was spot on as we were in a heatwave. No aircon in room, but ceiling fan helped.
My one only criticism was my coffee was very weak. In general. not just mine. But brekkie was tasty and cooked 🍳 to perfection 👌
