Excellent hotel and breakfast, we loved the room we had (splurged and did a suite both nights), but it was so worth it. Service was great and the location was really nice, close to many shops and coffee spots.
We had a wonderful stay at the Hansa Hotel in Swakopmund. The hotel is spotlessly clean, which made us feel very comfortable. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful—always welcoming and ready to assist with a smile.
The breakfast was a highlight: fresh, delicious, and with a great variety every morning.
Hansa Hotel blends classic charm with excellent service. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Swakopmund!
The hotel is situated in the middle of the city. It is a house with tradition, but always up to date. Good service and delicious breakfast.
Beautiful hotel, well preserved and clean. A jump back in history. Spacious rooms and renovated bathrooms. Restaurant staff not very friendly and food could be improved.
Pleasant, clean and relatively relaxed atmosphere in the hotel. Professional and pleasant staff, good location with good menu.
You will get exactly what it says on the tin i.e. it’s a safe bet for travellers although it does not have the most exciting or diverse feel about it
We stayed two nights here. The location is excellent in the middle of the town and easily walkable to restaurants and the sea. It has parking on site. The hotel is great- old and lots of old photos on the corridor walls. The rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast was good. We did not eat in the evening there.
This a very nice hotel in Swakop in an excellent location. Its located right in the centre of Swakop town centre and there are many shops around it including a PicknPay and some souvenir shops. It is also located right next to a mini mall where you can find a lot more good shops. Its a 10 minute walk to the beach and it is also about a 20 minute walk from the popular Desert Explorers activity centre. The hotel structure and deco is very old colonial style. When I first read the other reviews about the colonial style I was a bit worried about our stay but I can confirm, non of the staff or management have colonial attitudes. The hotel staff are extremely polite and very helpful. We had a room that overlooked the courtyard. The room was very large and we were very pleased with this. We were however, a bit disappointed with the food. The breakfast was continental buffet and it was ok, nothing really special. No one told us that we can order an English breakfast and we had to figure this out ourselves. The English breakfast was very disappointing. 2 tiny shrunken sausages with a random egg and a tiny bit of fried tomatoes. We expected better. Another thing we observed at breakfast was there was a lot of waiting staff hovering around. They were very polite and attentive but we felt a bit watched and I think having more than 6 staff hovering around asking if you are ok is a bit excessive. We had dinner twice at this hotel. I had Crumbed fillet of Hake served on a warm German style potato salad. On another day I had 4 black tiger prawns and a warm salad. Both meals were delicious. We also had braised oxtail and we thought it was a bit too salty. Overall, its a good hotel, maybe the deco needs to be updated a bit to attract a more younger crowd.
The Hansa is in a great location, close to my favourite bars and restaurants in Swakopund. Although a bit dated the hotel is well maintained, clean and has a charming atmosphere. The staff are all very professional and courteous; it was also a nice bonus to find a room service menu in the room... the calamari was great btw.
Stayed at the Hansa Hotel in Swakopmund as part of a tour group. Enjoyed the stay at this 1900’s hotel, a bit dated but in great condition and fitting in with the German colonial architecture of this town. There are many stores, shops, cafes/restaurants within easy walking distance from the hotel. It’s only a few blocks to the ocean as well.
We got an upstairs family room with 2 bedrooms and a large bathroom with both bathtub and shower. The bedrooms were both spacious and airy with high ceilings and each had separate door access to a nice balcony. Furnishings were dated but in great condition and good working order. Air conditioning worked well but was not really needed with the cooler temperature along the sea coast (compared to the Sossuvlei desert). Both bedrooms had large closets with individual room safes. A large bottle of water was provided daily. Free internet work well in the room. A great feature is the same day laundry service, which we took advantage of, giving it to the front desk (or housekeeping) in the morning with delivery back to the room in the afternoon.
Meals in the restaurant were good, though there was a set menu with our tour group. There is a small cosy bar behind the front desk, useful for pre- and post dinner cocktails. One drink to try and watch being prepared is the special Hansa coffee “cocktail”. Service throughout the hotel was good and attentive during our stay. The Hansa provided a comfortable and enjoyable stay while visiting Swakopmund.
We enjoyed our stay. All the staff was very courteous and helpful. We would definitely stay again.
We booked a suite for about 10 days over Christmas/New Year. The Hotel (Maike) was extremely helpful pre-arrival, suggesting we consider booking a table for dinner on the public holidays over the festive season to avoid disappointment. We took up the offer and were pleased we did. Maike also assisted in getting confirmation of a suite for the full stay after our travel agent failed to book the correct room.
The suite we were allocated was on the third floor overlooking the street. It was surprisingly quiet at night and we slept really well in a vary comfortable king size bed.
The suite had a bedroom, large living room (with comfortable furniture, a desk, coffee facilities, a well stocked fridge) and a large bathroom with walk in shower, bath tub and large vanity.
We also arranged for off street parking, which was very convenient. The service in this establishment is exceptional. It is clearly a well established hotel that offers comfortable, old world charm in a quiet yet very centrally located situation. We were able to walk all over central Swakopmund, shopping and sight seeing without requiring the car.
The pricing for the suite was reasonable, and our room was serviced daily.
Our room included breakfast and the choice was good. The service provided by staff in the restaurant was very good too.
This is the German experience in Namibia. The hotel has a fantastic staff (including the management), everything is spotless, the rooms are very comfortable, the bar with the fireplace is magical (Andre makes it so - ask for him), and the restaurant is great for dinner and the breakfast is something to experience. It is located in a central location. The garden is a lovely place to relax with a wine. It does not have a pool on the property and is somewhat difficult if you have mobility issues. Can't wait to go back in 2025.
The hotel exudes old world service, charm and courtesy that is rarely seen these days.
This aside it is spotlessly clean and maintained to a very high standard. We were actually very sad to leave to go back to a modern 'chain' hotel in Windhoek, and are trying to find a good reason to come back soon.
An amazing historic hotel, centrally located in Swakopmund - this is why we picked it, and we didn't regret a moment. Starting from good parking and assistance with luggage, going to absolutely awesome historic ambiance of the place (it's the oldest hotel in town after all) - clean, polished, well-managed property. We were offered a complimentary upgrade into a suite (for the sake of argument, regular rooms are also amazing - we had a chance to take a quick glimpse at one).
Our suite was large, spotlessly clean, with everything perfectly functioning. Large sitting area, courtesy tray and bottles of water, fully stocked bathroom. WIFI was the fastest in Namibia. And the breakfast served downstairs was the poshest and the best quality we've ever had in any country in Africa: cold cuts, herring, yoghurts, good juices, decent selection of bread and even scones...
Last but not least - amazing bar as well as super competent personnel. We wish every hotel in Namibia was like that.
No elevators to the 2nd floor is a problem for older customers.
Loved my stay here. It was clean. Very safe. Great internet. Amazing food.
The hotel is located in a great place where you can walk to Spar( a big grocery chain) if you need anything.
There are also many restaurants and cafes around the area.
The room specifically the bathroom and bed were spotless clean. I am extremely OCD but I felt very comfortable.
Staff are all helpful and very kind.
I dined twice here and food was great. The restaurant was a bit more expensive for the same food vs. room service.
Disclaimer: We only had drinks at the Hansa Hotel so didn’t eat or stay there.
The bar is nice enough but hasn’t changed in decades, which probably means its decor will come back into fashion.
Clearly the hotel was the place to be seen and stay in Swakopmund in years gone by but has the feel of somewhere that has been left behind. Maybe that makes it a timeless classic, or maybe it makes it a hotel in need of modernisation. I think the latter.
That said, service was very very good and prices reasonable. Atmosphere lacked however.
love this place
Would definitely stay here again if in Swakopmund (and I hope to return!!). Everyone at the hotel is absolutely lovely and our room was very comfortable. This hotel is full of charm and we've never seen a place so well upkept. People were doing all kinds of maintenance work all day, every day. You can tell everyone really cares about the hotel and the guests. We didn't need our room cleaned most days so put the do not disturb sign up and the housekeeper still left water outside our room each day, which was so considerate! Breakfast was great and so was the dinner we ate one night.
