We visited Cataline Island to attend the jazz festival. Hotel Lauren presents itself as a charming retreat, with its cheerful pink-and-white exterior suggesting warmth and hospitality (and some of the staff were very nice) and a convenient in-town location. Unfortunately, the overall experience inside didn’t live up to the promise—or the price.
High Cost, Low Value
At $500 per night, I expected a comfortable and well-appointed room. Instead, I found myself questioning what exactly I was paying for. The value simply wasn’t there.
Missing Basic Amenities
• Room quality: Sparse furnishings—a hard mattress, a table and a dresser—made the space feel bare. While the closet was generously sized, the windows were so dirty it was difficult to enjoy the view.
• No blanket: Surprisingly, the room lacked a blanket. We were left with only a thin sheet, which was inadequate for the chilly mid-50s evening temperatures.
• Bathroom essentials absent: No shower gel, lotion, shampoo, or conditioner. These are basic amenities I expect from any hotel, especially at this price point.
• No in-room coffee: There was no coffee maker in the room, and the lobby coffee was undrinkable. We ended up walking into town just to get a decent cup.
• Noise issues: A loud altercation between guests disrupted the night, and the thin walls made it impossible to ignore.
Overall, my stay at Hotel Lauren was disappointing. The lack of basic comforts and amenities made the experience feel more like a budget motel than a premium hotel. When paying top-tier rates, guests deserve more than just a pretty façade. I probably wouldn’t recommend this hotel to travelers seeking value, comfort or a restful experience.
Love the views from our room and the deck with full views. Great location too. Super quaint hotel.
The property is a little outdated, but a good stay overall. Facility was clean, and staff was very friendly. My dislikes however were how thin the walls are. Our neighbors were up playing music till midnight, and then woke up at 7am to continue the party….terrible. Also, there were a lot of bugs outside, ants inside the room, and the sinks in the bathroom splash water everywhere. We enjoyed our balcony with ocean view, but again l, everything was a bit too close to the neighbors for my liking.
Rooms too small and dark
Ok room, no frills. Tv turned itself off and on all night, which was a bit creepy. Very inconvenient that hotel will not store baggage upon checkout.
Nice, clean and quiet. Pricey, though!
To sea viewing at patio.
So close to everything!
Yes the ocean was visible. Staff was grumpy, toilet overflowed before we used it.
We found the lodging to be far less than the quality expected for the price we paid
At least they should have mini refrigerator
I love this hotel, absolutely fantastic. The staff extremely helpful, they allowed us to check our bags into the hotel until our room is ready so we could go walk around the island. The beautiful hotel is very nostalgic Catalina.
Room was clean and had a great view of the city.
Ocean views from 6th floor patio and morning coffee provided was delicious:)
The hotel is very old and super over priced for the condition of the rooms and bathroom. There was one young lady at the front desk that was incredibly rude and unhelpful. There are other newer and fancier hotels much closer to front street for the same price.
Weve been to Catalina many times. This is the first time a hotel refused to store our bags. Also no mini fridge or microwave. Other than that, rooms were beautiful. Most of the staff were very nice.
The hotel has a cute exterior and roof deck. The rooms are utilitarian and dated. Laminate hardwood floor with no rugs. Basic economy bed and nightstands. Bathrooms appear mid-80s and dilapidated. This needs investment to be at modern hotel standards.
This was a great hotel, close to everything, and was very well kept: I will definitely stay there again when I return to Catalina.
This was a lovely place to stay for the celebration we were making. Unfortunately the upstairs deck's furniture was old and not in good shape. The picture is not what is there and the lobby furniture could of been upgraded to a newer condition of furniture for the prices they charge. Overall we enjoyed our scenic view room.
Made me feel very comfortable and simple. Staff was extremely nice and funny. Thanks again front desk girl, you're very awesome! Im so sorry forgetting name but you were very appreciated!
