Location was amazing, staff were lovely and helpful always. Price was right.
Room was not clean, matress and bed frame very loud and uncomfortable almost felt broken. Little amenities in the room. AC unit only cooled down 1 room. Shower enclosure was leaking, and the room was in need of a general tlc.
I have stayed at this hotel many times, but this was the first time that there wasn't any tea making facilities in our room, apparently the whole hotel didn't have any, a real let down

easy seamless check in, location
room was old/ unrenovated, not reflective of images on booking.com at all. Grubby and worn corridors. Tired feeling in block I was in.
Very long wait for the elevators - I ended up using the stairs (even with my luggage) but fortunately I “only” had to go to 4th floor. No air condition which was rough in over 30 centigrades.

it was difficult to get a lift to and from room. we ended up walking down every time. The shower did not drain away quickly. there was no bath mat provided nor tea and coffee facilities in the room the window blinds did not close fully. the TV did not work it kept asking for a password

At det ikke var aircondition på rommet. Det var helt forferdelig varmt. Ingen plass å kjøle seg ned. Ingen kaldvann i dusjen sånn at vi kunne ta en kald dusj. Natten var veldig krevende. Ingen aircondition i lobbyen heller. At di klarer å jobbe i en sånn varme er helt uforståelig. Det var bord og stoler i lobbye sånn at vi f.eks. kunne sitte å spille kort. Det var kvelende varmt. Vi ba om en vifte, men det fikk vi ikke. Ikke vinduer å åpne heller. Det er synd for det er ellers et bra hotell. Har bodd der flere ganger.

Walked into reception and instead of a welcome was accosted to pay an early check in fee or pay a £10 bag storage fee. I was made aware of this 2 days prior and booked early check in but a "welcome to st giles" would have been more appropriate. Please note we were not informed of this at time of booking. Then there was an issue with our check in, this took at least 30 minutes to sort out so lost PAID early check in time. In the meantime, water was dripping on us from the ceiling of reception. Once the check in was finally sorted we were informed that our room will not be cleaned for our whole stay of 5 nights...it seems rooms are only cleaned after 4 nights, but as we are staying for 5 nights they won't bother cleaning it at all! They then annouced that should we need toilet paper and clean towels we need to collect them from reception! I was not happy about this at all, as none of the above was advised to us at time of booking and we had paid a good price for the room. Reception then said that this change was due to change of ownership of the hotel. When I booked the room the hotel still had not changed hands and we should have been informed of this change with the option for a discount. The following morning I recalled that our room was also meant to include tea and coffee making facilities...none of this was provided so I informed reception and at least they agreed to provide us with a kettle, 2 cups, a couple of teabags and instant coffee...I had to buy milk myself. On another note, as none of the rubbish was being cleared in our room, on day 3 I went down to reception for a garbage bag to clear it myself...but they didn't have. Finally on day 4, housekeeping provided me with a garbage bag and collected all the rubbish and dirty towels. Although STG has recently refurbished its rooms, it is a pity the service was not as I expected, especially for the price I paid.
