Pros:

古いが雰囲気は充分コロニアル様式ホテルだった。

Cons:

部屋の設備が壊れていたり、アメニティーか無く、水すら無かった。プール、レストラン、建物は素晴らしい。

We enjoyed the grand traditional style and appreciated the long history of the hotel.
Pros:

The traditional colonial architecture and ambiance. Spacious, comfortable room. Ocean facing location in city centre all excellent.

The buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious. So much choice and very well organised.

The staff were all pleasant, cheerful and extremely attentive.

Cons:

Sadly, for this 5* hotel, there were disappointing aspects to our stay.

We were booked for 3 nights including breakfast. As we were leaving very early on the third morning, a breakfast pack was promised the night before for collection from reception on check-out. No breakfast pack turned up and we left without.

Also regret to say we had a very poor meal in the Travellers Bar on the second evening - we left most of it. Coffee served there on another occasion had to be sent back as virtually cold and tasted burnt and stale.

Loud music too intrusive and unnecessary in the ocean facing bars. But that may be our opinion only

Pros:

Historic colonial style hotel in an incredible setting. A great place to stay in Colombo with Galle Face a lovely area to walk around, especially early evening.
Delicious buffet breakfast and dinner with excellent variety.
Friendly staff who worked exceptionally hard as hotel was fully booked.

Cons:

The building appears to require some cosmetic renovation but coastal setting may cause excessive wear.
Unattactive blind in bathroom and windows did not open.

Breakfast was buffet and had a good variety of food. Room space was sufficient for our needs and location was close to beach

Dinner was buffet and good variety of food except it was generally cold. Doesn't help when previous person leaves lid off but generally food was cold. Room was a bit dated and needs renovation

History, charm, position.

Cons:

This is one of the most beautiful properties in Colombo, but unfortunately it appears poorly managed and not properly maintained. Improvements are needed on many levels. The restaurant's furniture in particular requires immediate replacement if the hotel aims to uphold a 5-star standard. Worn and rumpled chairs takes away from what could otherwise be exceptional property. However, common parts in the Hotel are charming. Reception staff are very sweet and helpful.
During my stay, on one occasion I felt as if I were in a raving nightclub rather than a five-star property. The level of noise from the party that took place in the Hotel was totally unacceptable. Management needs to bear in mind that we are paying customers and valued guests, not lodgers simply looking for a place to crash for the night.

Great way to end the holiday
Pros:

Great location overlooking the sea. Colonial feel to the place made it feel more special than your usual hotel of this type. Enormously varied buffet breakfast included in the price. My husband had about 8 courses!
