Fortaleza

The site itself is beautiful and historic, but having Chandana there to welcome me every morning and discuss Sri Lanka really made my stay. Trevor the cat was an added bonus! I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

Excellent location and cute historic building. We liked staying here for one night.

We were looking for a one night stay in Galle, in order to properly see the fort and shorten our drive to the southern coast.
We chose the Fortaleza as it's in the city center and it's the main hotel of this local chain, therefore people from other accomodations all come here for breakfast.
We stayed in the master bedroom on the second floor and we really liked it, room was big and extremely spacious with both AC and fan.
There are two rooms on the ground floor and two on the first floor, I would recommend the first floor as the street is really close to the windows otherwise.
Hotel is recommended for a short stay as it lacks of few amenities like pool, spa etc that other structures offer in town.

We had a great stay at Fortaleza! Convenient also with a nice restaurant in the backyard. Helpful staff and amazing surroundings! Our room (out of four) on the ground floor was rather small but stylish and cozy. Liked Trevor the cat!

Lovely hotel. Was an old spice warehouse, now a lovely hotel in a heritage building within the equally lovely Galle Fort. Very comfortable bed with mosquito net, air con, overhead fan, no fridge/minibar but staff happy to refrigerate anything you may need kept cold (medications in my case). Extremely helpful staff - happy to help with any request. Fabulous breakfasts in a courtyard garden setting. I loved this hotel - it's gorgeous & has a lovely relaxed vibe. If you want the beach they have a sister property you can visit at beautiful Zazou Bay (would have to be one of the loveliest beaches in Sri Lanka) & use the pool at, free. Heaven!

Lovely stay in a nicely restored old Dutch building. Room was beautifu. Staff v. friendly & helpful with ideas for stay in/around Galle. Hotel v. central in Galle Fort. Note the room has no TV, but no probs for me as had a good book! Would def. recommend a stay here.

The electricity was a problem beyond the hotel's responsibility but had we known about the problem we would not have booked a hotel without a generator because the AC was not dependable. I would also suggest if you book Fortaleza, request a villa not attached to the restaurant--they are lovely and more gracious than the main house. The staff was beyond excellent!

We booked a 3 night stay at the Fortaleza. Upon arrival we noticed a small problem with our room. The staff, in particular the manager Ethan, went out of their way to try and solve the issue. Ultimately, we ended up moving to a sister property nearby. To our surprise we were upgraded. We were very impressed with the recognition of the issue and the speedy resolution which showed true professionalism and service.
The Fortaleza itself is a lovely property centrally located inside the fort with a great courtyard restaurant/bar which should be visited in its own right.
We would go back and definitely recommend to our friends.

Nice people, good location, decent restaurant, tasteful decoration and authentic building layout. Lots of good things to commend the hotel but the last point is double-edged. In our case it meant our ground floor room was directly off the entrance lobby. However, our main concern - noise generated by hotel and restaurant guests - was unfounded. Most of the noise we experienced came from the bedroom window which faced a side street, which was acceptable. Nevertheless you have to get used to your bedroom door being just feet away from the hotel entrance.
The biggest detraction was that our room smelt overwhelmingly of damp. Maybe we were just unlucky and the other rooms are fine, but being on the ground floor and facing a busy side street we couldn't open our bedroom window to air the room. And for that same reason the window glass was frosted which just added to the feeling of choking claustrophobia.

Hotel is an old Dutch house with only four rooms. Wifi didn't work well in the bedroom but okay in the public areas. To get to the upstairs rooms you have to climb a steep winding staircase so if you have mobility issues opt for a downstairs room. Breakfast is nothing special but the food in the restaurant is good.

Fortaleza provided a very relaxing atmosphere for one of our three nights within the Galle Fort area. While the place is very clean and the staff are extremely attentive, the room didn't seem quite worth the price charged. Though very well decorated, it was a bit small, had relatively slow wifi, and lacked basic amenities such as a TV or coffee/tea making facilities. While I wouldn't have used the TV or coffee maker while there, it was surprising that I didn't have the option at this price point.

A stunning place - the room was outstanding! Centered within the forte in Galle - great food, restaurant etc. It has only 4 rooms - but very nicely appointed and comfortable. Felt like home.

A great place to be based to explore the fort area glad I selected this hotel will definitely recommend .

It was good to stay in the hotel, very convenient location
