Hotel Villa Portofino Kigali

Hotel Villa Portofino is a nice enough hotel without anything remarkesble. The golf course view is amazing as is the view over the swimming pool.

This facility is no longer functioning as a hotel! Expeeida should not have marketed this facility! We were only 3 guests in the hotel and I was not able to have hot water for three days! the hotel is nose-diving or at best it should be closed to the public until it gets its acts right!

Excellent local and good price

The hotel has marvellous view of the Golf course and sorroundings. The hotel requires significant upgrade to the carpets in the common area and the furniture

The food is good, and the staff is kind. However, the price of $100 per night is too high. The hotel is quite far from downtown, with little within walking distance. The swimming pool is nice, but I couldn't find the gym during my week-long stay. The internet in the rooms is poor, and the cleanliness is just acceptable.

I was given the impression that the rooms come with complimentary breakfast but oh I was proven wrong. The guests were told the bookings from Expedia don’t come with breakfast????
That was very disappointing. The guests had to pay for their breakfast. This is very wrong as it should have been stated clearly during the booking but it was not.
I felt so bad.

Decor was a bit dated but well maintained

I stayed at the Hotel Villa Portofino for one evening while traveling for work. After a very long trip and arriving in Kigali extremely jet-lagged, a hot shower and dinner delivered by room service was just what I needed. Breakfast the next morning was excellent and included an omelet bar, fresh fruits, and fresh fruit juices. Though I had to check out and was not coming back for a second night's stay, I was able to keep my bags in storage until I was able to come back for them. Overall, a very positive experience and would definitely stay here again.

The only comment is about the restaurant although the food is good but the waiting time need to be less

The hotel is located in a good area. shopping center and Indian restaurant not far from the hotel, but there is few things the hotel should look after:
Hotel management should give more attention about the rooms conditions and service. The room curtains is not covering the windows correctly it need maintenance
rooms carpet smell which is very bothering
Bathroom lighting. System is very limited in case you need to chef there is a small portable mirror inside the bathroom so you can used to do your shaving at the balcony or the room,

Service in restaurant is very very slow. I notice one customer waiting for almost 1 hour to get his club sandwich waitress, very polite but at the end the service is extremely slow I repeat, very, very, very slow.

Good location, very responsive staff, clean and well maintained, spacious rooms

Lighting is of poor quality need changing and pool had no chlorine so infections of fungus are slightly to happen especially to woman and kids but after all the hotel is fantastic.

I just LOVED staying here. The service was top notch, the rooms were great …. Oh that big comfy bed after a day of travelling was glorious. Food in the restaurant is fab and lovely chilled drinks by the poolside were indulgent and made me happy. Just across from the hotel is a great salon where I got my nails done - Ali was great!

Again, everyone’s service was top notch - from taxis to booking restaurants to getting advice on cheap sunglasses. I loved my stay here and would definitely stay again. Thank you to the whole team - you were fabulous.

A nice hotel although slightly dated. The reception lobby is quite bare but adequate. Rooms are nice and comfortable with all basic amenities in place. Limited tea bags and coffee on payment in the rooms was a bit of a let down. The restaurant is decent enough but with limited variety. Quite adequate hotel for its mid range price. Location next to the golf course is an added advantage.

This is an unusual review – not about service in the hotel – but rather about the attitude of the Villa Portofino in failing to provide a contracted service. This review concerns a wedding reception which was booked around 9 October for the reception to be held in a specific room inside the hotel on 30 October. A deposit of RWF 500,000 (about $500) was paid, and the booking confirmed.
On Wednesday 28 October at 9pm we received a call from the Villa Portofino cancelling our booking “due to a double-booking” for the room the reception was due to be held in. Readers can imagine the stress and hurt caused by this call. To cancel a reception one business day before the wedding is unheard of and is totally thoughtless. The day before a wedding, brides have last minute preparations to complete. Finding a new venue for the reception is not normally part of these preparations, especially when they are not at fault.
We appealed to the Villa Portofino and asked them to rescind the cancellation – to no avail. The best offer was to hold the reception around the pool and then move to the reception room when it was available. Those familiar with Rwanda’s rainy season will realise that anything booked outside is liable to severe disruption from thunderstorms – especially in the afternoon. If we wanted an external event, we would have booked that in the first instance.
So, at 1.30pm on the day before the wedding, after wasting three hours meeting with various Villa Portofino staff, we had a cheque with the deposit returned plus meagre compensation of RWF 200,000 (about $200), but nowhere to hold the wedding reception. The attitude of Villa Portofino staff was unbending in the extreme; there was absolutely no way we were ever going to be given the room we had booked, despite their admission that they were at fault.
Their stance throughout the discussions was morally wrong. I have no idea why the other booking was allowed to take precedence, but this should be a warning to anyone thinking of using the Villa Portofino services. Will they deliver in the end, or will you also be left as we were, scrabbling around at the last minute to make good their failings?

Had a exellent stay here. Mangement is always on hand if needed. Great concierge. Room services always available. Thank you for a memorable stay.
