Perfect stay at the Rock
Pros:

It’s was a lovely hotel, breakfast buffet and easy to just help yourself. Pool area great.

Cons:

Of over by the pool, remember to take bug spray, being so close to the botanical gardens, there are going to be bugs there compared to rest of the town

Great old school hotel with amazing views. The staff were very friendly and it has a great relaxed vibe. The free parking is a bonus.

Civilised hotel with excellent staff
Pros:

The Rock was the last in a series of 14 hotels I stayed in whilst travelling north to south across Europe, and I really wanted somewhere I could relax and unwind with no stress - and that was largely what I got.

The first thing to mention is the staff. The Reception team in particular were amazing, going above and beyond to help me, whether accompanying me down into the town to find an ad hoc tour up the rock, or checking unprompted whether I needed any help packing up and checking out. The lady at the pool bar used her initiative to ensure I could get help whenever I needed it, and whilst the restaurant waiters sometimes tried a little bit too hard (you don’t need to say good evening every single time you come to the table…) they had a good sense of how to support a visually impaired customer.

The room itself was everything I wanted. It had a fantastic view over the port and out to see, and the balcony was the perfect place to enjoy room service breakfast on the final day of my trip. The room itself was a good size and well equipped, and the bed was comfortable.

The swimming pool area was also very civilised, with a decent sized pool, and plenty of sun lounges and towels. It’s a shame One has to cross a fairly busy road to get there and back (maybe the Gibraltar government would like to provide a zebra crossing to reduce the risk of guests being mown down), but thankfully the staff were on Hand to help me get across safely.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the rock, and whilst it is more of a special occasion kind of hotel than somewhere One would pop into every time One was in town, I would definitely stay again.

Cons:

I had an enjoyable evening meal in the restaurant. Whilst the waiting staff were attentive, and the food interesting and a good quality, greater attention to detail would improve the overall offering. First, a Kia Royale must surely be the first cocktail taught at bartending school, yet nobody had heard of it when I attempted to order an aperitif. And, when I asked whether a prawn could be de-shelled I was told that the answer was “probably no” and that the chef would likely shout at the waiter for asking (despite this likely being a reasonable request for a visually impaired customer). and finally, throughout my meal, I was serenaded with the jarring sound of cutlery repeatedly being clanged together as they reset tables for the morning. Individually, none of these issues were a big deal, but they were unbecoming of a restaurant which considers itself to be of high-quality, with prices to match.

The best experience and most beautiful location
Pros:

Absolutely everything! It was such an amazing place: nostalgic, modern and luxurious. Clientele was classy and clam. Loved the relaxing music at both the pool and lobby and restaurant. It was such a chill place in a party atmosphere. The staff generally took time to get to know you and cater to your experience. Can’t recommend enough!

Cons:

The decaf coffee in the room… only need caffeinated coffee

Sæmilegt hótel, orðið frekar gamalt og þreytt.
Pros:

Fallegt útsýni úr herberginu.

Cons:

Baðherbergi var alls ekki gott. Mjög mikill hávaði í loftkælingu. Ekki gott að komast með töskur á mili hæða.

Average to poor.
Pros:

The pool area over the road is the saving grace.

Cons:

Dated hotel. Shabby and needing a lot of work to bring up to the standard of £200 a night charge.
Room was small. Old wooden scratched table. Bed wall light faulty. Couldn’t use the Safe as the battery compartment and button you needed to press to set code was plastered over with black duck tape. Poorly plastered over vent in wall. Just not a nice space to stay in.

Long past its best. Needs a lot of work to warrant the prices.
Pros:

View from the room. Lunch on the outside Terrace OK. Pool area was good but across a busy road. Large balcony but no pleasant plants or furnishings on it to make it anywhere you would want to sit for long. Average buffet breakfast.

Cons:

Small room. Bathroom had no room to sit on the loo! Odd that all meals - breakfast, lunch or dinner were essentially just in the only restaurant there was. Expected more facilities in such a well known hotel. Staff a bit brusque at times. No spa or gym.
