My stay at the Crystal Hotel was extremely disappointing. The room had a strong, persistent moldy smell that permeated all the clothes in my suitcase. Even after I left the hotel, the smell lingered whenever I opened my suitcase.
The mattress and pillows were painfully uncomfortable. I woke up with a strained neck after the first night and could barely turn my head. By the second night, I had to place a folded blanket beneath me because I could feel the mattress springs digging into my back.
Around midnight, a saxophone player on the street began playing. After 15 minutes of nonstop noise, I called the front desk. The initial response was dismissive: “It’s not coming from us.” Only after I asked about the noise ordinance and whether anything could be done did the staff reluctantly agree to look into it.
Between the moldy odor, uncomfortable bed, and unhelpful service, this was an unacceptable hotel experience. I would not recommend staying here.

It was so great! we love staying at mcmenamins, the restaurant/bar right next door, the uniqueness of the rooms, a soaking pool! not to mention in a great location if you’re planning to head to crystal ballroom later on!

It was only for one night to practice self-care and received the vibe that I was seeking.
Pros:

Room 210 was clean, smelled great, and in great order when I arrived. The shared bathroom across the hall was kept in the same manner. Soaking pool area was clean and safe as well. The staff were very helpful and extremely polite to any thing that I needed. Will stay here again and already booked my next hotel stay because of the positive and professionalism.

Eclectic, great location, warm staff, comfortable and quiet room overlooking the pedestrian mall.
Pros:

A quick Uber ride from Union Station, excellent downtown location. Eclectic design, great staff, relaxing hot pool, great cafe bar and basement bar. Very clean, comfortable bed.

Cons:

The cafe prices a bit high, especially an $18 glass of red wine.

A hidden gem in the heart of Portland.
Pros:

We grabbed a beverage from the bar and went to the spa right after check in and had it all to ourselves. Very comfortable and relaxing. Such a hidden gem! The restaurant had delicious dinner and breakfast options and the complimentary coffee was very nice.

Cons:

The elevator is slow, so we took the stairs!

Enjoyable.
Pros:

Friendly staff, clean facilities, close to the restaurant and bar and an easy walk to the center of the city. Right across the street from Jake’s, one of my favorite restaurants.

Cons:

Mattress was a little off (one side sunk further in than the other). Room was very small, but the building itself must be at least 100 years old. The facilities are scaled based on what the building allowed. This wasn’t a major problem, because if you are visiting Portland in the summer, the majority of your time is spent outside. The air conditioning was a big plus as well. Smaller rooms share bathrooms located just outside in the hallway. Really nothing more than a minor inconvenience. All in all, a pleasant stay.
