We stayed here as part of our G Adventures tour. It's a clean and spacious hotel with a pretty outside area perfect for relaxing. It has a nice, historic atmosphere and theme. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is good and offers a simple yet delicious variety. Only complaint is it is a little noisy during the day with buildings around the hotel causing the noise (lots of music and singing). During the night though, this isn't a problem so it didn't impact our sleep. It's right on the doorstep of the main square so everything is within walking distance too.
Nice hotel in the city center of Sucre. The outdoor spaces are more pleasant than the rooms themselves, which are a bit bare and basic. The rooms are poorly lit, and there’s no sound insulation — you can hear everything happening outside as well as in neighboring rooms. The bathroom has no ventilation other than a window that opens back into the room, and in the double room the door squeaks loudly, which is quite annoying. Breakfast is Bolivian-style and quite limited, so don’t count on it too much. Despite several available Wi-Fi networks, none of them work reliably.
I had an excellent experience at the Hotel Independencia. From the moment I arrived, the staff was very friendly and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. The location is unbeatable, right in the historic center, steps from the main square and several museums and restaurants.
The rooms are comfortable, clean, and have a charming colonial style that blends well with the city's surroundings. The breakfast buffet was varied and delicious, with local and classic options. I also really enjoyed the common areas, such as the interior courtyard, which is quiet and perfect for relaxing after exploring the city.
I would definitely stay here again. It's a hotel with character, good service, and excellent value. Highly recommended for those visiting Sucre!
A nice hotel with nice features inside. Helpful staff and very attentive. Rooms a little more dated than the images suggest, and the beds were squeaky as heck if you weren’t lying perfectly still. Assume this isn’t desirable for some.
No air con and the water took a long long long time to get hot. Infact it’s probably still not hot now if I’d have turned it on when I stayed there.
Stayed here as part of our g adventures tour. The hotel is very clean and has a lovely open-air feel.
Breakfast was nice, plenty choice.
The staff were helpful, and the cleaning staff work so hard - thank you!!
The room was nice, however the beds are squeaky and poor mattresses in room 306!
Strong WiFi.
Location is great , very very close to main square!
Achei o hotel excelente, também me surpreendeu o atendimento, a cama muito confortável e o banheiro mto bom, hotel colonial mto bonito e mto bem localizado. Recomendo. Unico problema que tive foi com estacionamento que tive que pagar uma parte.
Just stayed at this hotel as part of our G adventure tour.
We stayed in room 501, next to the lift.
The hotel is so charming, they have the most beautiful paintings on the walls and have breakfast on the top floor- amazing views from there and then also the most beautiful paintings on the walls.
Highly recommend this hotel.
Really nice breakfast, friendly staff, perfect location and good wifi.
had a good nights sleep.
Also have lifts and nice hot water.
muy limpio, desayuno standard, wifi a mejorar, cuartos amplios, staff muy amable
Not what I expected. The room I was given was dark and it didn't have a pot to boil water.
Hotel was nice, everything you needed.
Wifi was ok but not good enough for downloading videos.
Our room was opposite the hotels toilets near the lobby so often had people talking outside and bright lights shining into our room all night.
Rooms were cold but extra blankets were provided when asked.
Agree with another review that said the guy that oversees breakfast acts like a security guard.
I was given a huge room during my stay with two queen beds and tons of space to spare. Loved it. This whole place looked like it was converted from a rich man’s mansion from the old days. Chandeliers and frescoes abound, giving it a grand old world atmosphere. Location is prime, just a hop and skip away from many attractions such as liberty house and the main square plaza.
Breakfast offered was however quite limited so I supplemented with a saltenas run around town.
The rooms are fine - clean & comfortable. Working tv, hot water, & even a fridge! Breakfast is typical, with hot drinks, fruit, eggs, & bread. The biggest positive this hotel has is its location, which is very centrally located & close to everything.
There is definitely a school next door & it gets loud at 8am. A lot of PA announcements! It seems like there are rooms that are shielded from the noise, so ask if this is important for you.
Hotel is clean and our room was comfortable. Shower is an odd set up and a bit on the small side.
Breakfast was pretty average and staff attending it were constantly scrutinising what you were taking.
Very noisy in the mornings with the school next door, so if you want a lie in past 745, maybe stay elsewhere
The room was ok. The toilet was extremly Small, there was not a little space for something.
The breakfast would bei ok for a **hotel but not for ****.
There are some nice restaurants nearby at the Plaza.
Very close to the main square, very clean, comfortable and an excellent included breakfast. However the rooms are quite small and noise from adjacent rooms is very loud. Beds are very comfortable and lots of hot water. Best shower in days. However at 4500 bob a night, this is way over value for money received. Decent short stay hotel.
So.. I looked at the reviews and the hotel does have a nice courtyard and breakfast is fruit and bread, standard fare for Bolivia and the staff are friendly BUT after that our experiences differ.. our room had 3 single beds (2 of us) so literally no space to move.. mattress was lumpy on my bed and the pillow was well past it’s use by date.. bath was very small however shower did have good hot water..our room was next to the function area kitchen and the walls are paper thin, consequently we had a bad night because we may as well have been serving and/or washing up with the staff.. appalling noise and one of the worst places we have stayed in either Peru or Bolivia.. if you decide to try the hotel because it is a good location stress you do not want room 201... it’s horrid
We stayed at Hotel Independencia as part of a tour and we found it to be pleasant with lovely courtyards to sit in. The room itself was clean and the bathroom was ok (standard 3* nothing special). The only issue we had was the breakfast which was fairly awful but this has been a common theme throughout our trip and there are a lot of places to get better breakfast nearby. Close to a supermarket and ATMs. Wifi was patchy and a little slow. Overall we would stay here again.
My fiancée and I stayed in Hotel Independencia in Sucre for a few nights as part of a tour. The hotel and grounds are lovely, with open courtyards and comfortable areas to sit and enjoy a drink. The building is in Spanish colonial style and has a fascinating history if you ask at reception of check online on the very unpredictabke WiFi.
Hotel Independencia is a classic 3* hotel - basic, cheap, mostly clean and located well in the centre of Sucre. It needs lots of maintenance so don’t expect the Hilton, but perfectly ok on a budget. The bathrooms in particular need some fairly urgent work to hide exposed wires and repair pipework (see photos).
The breakfast is ok, although nothing special. There’s the usual and tasty range of bread, jams, eggs, meat, cheese and fresh juices. Sadly, to add to the experience there’s a particularly surly staff member taking room numbers and policing the breakfast area. This includes telling you off for wearing the wrong footwear (clean socks not ok) and shouting at the waiter whilst you eat.
All-in-all, stay somewhere with nicer showers and food if you can afford it, otherwise this hotel is ok!
Less than one block from the Plaza 25 de Mayo. Very convenient hotel for restaurants and anywhere you want to visit. We changed rooms 3 times. The first one was with a new leak in the bathroom and they offered us a better room (but the one we had was spacious, clean and enough for us). The second one was facing the inner beautiful garden of the hotel. We accepted changed to the 3rd one just for one night because they were going to receive a soccer team and they wanted to be all together. The 3rd room was also very nice and the stuff prompted to pack our stuff and move our luggage, but we prefered to do it by ourselves.
Old historical building. If you look into details, you will find that renovation is in order, but the charm of the place paid off.
This hotel clearly used to be an old palace or at least mansion as it has a ballroom and is tastefully decorated. It is unbelievably close to the city centre and has friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately it can be noisy as some youth groups use it when touring Bolivia and not all of them are quiet - to be fair: some are quiet.
