Categories

Cleanliness
8.4
Multiple guests explicitly described rooms as clean and well kept (e.g., "clean as a whistle", "clean, professional"), so cleanliness is generally strong.
Service
8.3
Service references are limited but generally positive (professional feel; staff provided a fan when requested). No major service failures reported.
Location
9.5
Location is repeatedly praised (central, 'right on the Promenade', close to shops, cafés and transport), a clear standout feature.
Room Quality
6.5
Several guests reported significant issues: rooms very hot with no air conditioning, top-floor rooms with many stairs, small rooms/beds and sleep disturbed by outside noise—reduces room quality score.
Amenities
8.2
Kitchen area and complimentary items (tea, coffee, milk, granola, biscuits) were appreciated; basic amenities are good but lack of AC is a notable omission.
Value for Money
7.9
Mixed impressions: good location and cleanliness support value, but heat, stairs and a few disappointments led some guests to feel it did not fully match higher-rated expectations.
Food and Beverage
8.4
Complimentary provisions (muesli, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits) were frequently mentioned positively; no restaurant service noted but self-catering offerings are well regarded.
Overall Experience
7.6
Overall sentiment is mixed: many guests enjoyed the location, cleanliness and pleasant stay, but recurring problems (heat, noise, stairs) produced a number of disappointed experiences.

Overall a good experience.
Pros:

Beautiful old building.
Hosts very welcoming and helpful.
Facilities and extra touches like fresh milk in fridge very good.
Location ideal for festivals.

Cons:

Decor and bathroom fitting was nice but finishing needed some attention.
Climb to top floor a bit gruelling and likely to be very hot up there in summer.
Noise from street cleaners/refuse removal disturbed sleep from very early morning (though we did have window open).

Great Location
Pros:

Great location at the best end of the Promenade.
Good value for money.
Useful Kitchenette withe tea bags, coffee and semi skimmed milk provided.

Cons:

We found the entry code front door and bedroom locks difficult and stressful to use.
We stayed in Room 2. The shower was extremely difficult to get in and out of, because it had sliding doors that didn't open wide enough. I think the shower was a mixer tap and not thermostatic, as it was difficult to get the right temperature.
The room wasn't serviced daily.

Avoid Room 10 - Family Room. Not fit for purpose, dark and filthy.
Pros:

The location was perfect. The building itself it beautiful. Front of the hotel is in a lovely part of Cheltenham town centre.

Cons:

The room was not clean. Vape from previous occupant on floor by the bed. The kitchenette area was really dirty with the kettle, toaster and microwave all running off the same extension lead. Dust pan and brush hanging up over the worktop and all debrise falling onto the unit. The bathroom was tiny. People of a larger size would struggle to fit through the shower door and a parent would not be able to wash their child without actually getting in the shower with them. Thick black mould around the entire shower. Cobwebs and damp smell throughout and the ceiling was compeletely covered with water damaged stains. Located in the basement with no fresh air as unable to open window due to, security. There is just 1 window in the Family Room which provides a horrible view of a very busy road. Bags of rubbish underneath the window and so fully expect it attracts vermin on a regular basis.

Pros:

Location and staff

Cons:

Road noise was a minor inconvenience and we same day booked but the room was not ready at 4; because the location is so good, it wasn’t a problem

Convenient and easy to use location
Pros:

Convenient location. Parked outside front

Cons:

Shower door broken. Room was on the 3rd floor so it would be difficult with large cases

Pros:

Great location and all you need for a night or two in the room. Comfy bed, clean bathroom and even a little kitchen with kettle, micro wave and sink for cleaning dishes.

Cons:

Quite a small room, so only for solo-travellers. Lacked a few electricity outlets, had to use the multiplug hidden between wall and kitchen corner.

Not impressed. Won’t go there again.
Pros:

The room itself was ok

Cons:

The access to the room was very difficult. 5 flights of steep stairs. I had to stop and gasp for breath 3 times when ascending the stairs. Because of this I only went upstairs once per day. The room was very hot because heat rises to top floor.
