Just the tonic we needed to recharge the batteries
Pros:

The location of the hotel is superb. Just a short drive to Bowness which is a lovely place to visit. Fabulous garden centre is five minutes away. From our room in the hotel the view over the lake was amazing. Breakfast was a pleasure, with numerous choices and friendly approachable staff. Everything considered our Merewood stay was a great short break.

Cons:

The weather could have been kinder. Rain, rain and more rain. To be expected in the Lake district!!!!!

Pros:

The hotel was beautiful inside and out, with original features preserved and pleasant gardens. I was given a free upgrade to a spacious room with lovely views over the lake.
The staff were pleasant and helpful.
The menu in the Grill restaurant was appealing and the wild rice served with the chicken supreme was different and delicious.
There was a good choice of hot food for breakfast and it was very good (except for the toast).

Cons:

Difficult to find something I didn't like. I struggled to get the curtains to close fully but I mentioned this on leaving and feel confident it will be rectified.

Excellent Dog Friendly Country House Hotel
Pros:

Old world style country house hotel just outside of Ambleside. Good location, good food, good service. All round excellent stay and good value for the quality of the hotel. The type of place you'd sit by a fire on a cold and wintery day and just 'be'.

Dog friendly with specific dining rooms for those with dogs away from the main restaurants.

Cons:

Nothing, just that I'm not there now!

Food for the Soul
Pros:

This was a wonderful experience and I loved the room, the view from the room, the staff, the grounds, the meals, the library and sitting rooms. The bar was nice and both restaurants served lovely meals.

Cons:

I didn't like the music that was playing over the speakers. It was some sort of country western music from the 1980's and I felt that it detracted from the deliciousness of the place.
