A Hidden Gem You’ll Be Glad You Discovered
Pros:

The Barnsley is a hidden gem! I’ve lived in Georgia almost 20 years and never heard of it until a friend mentioned it recently. I love the natural, but sophisticated environment, friendly service and fellow guests, and my cottage was well appointed, comfortable, relaxing and cozy. There is a variety of activities, so whatever your thing - the spa, golf, fishing, hiking, biking, canoeing, horseback, or just hanging out by the pool or conversation around one of the fire pits along the main walk - you will not run out of enjoyable activities. And if you just want to rest and wander the property, the trails and the historic site, and there to enjoy as well. I went alone for a personal retreat and left totally refreshed and ready to book a stay in a few months with my family!

Choose the right accommodations for you
Pros:

Overall a very nice resort. Would not recommend Fugger Cabin unless you want a true old cabin experience.Quiet, secluded and beautiful view though. Not particularly clean or good value for the nightly rate paid. Broken chairs for sitting in living room. Room service was reliable but some food items were cold.

Wonderful place for a family getaway!
Pros:

The property and setting were gorgeous! I loved the walkability from the inn, cottages, and every activity we wanted to do! The variety of amenities kept everyone busy and interested. The nightly s'mores by the bonfires and morning coffee, fruits, breads and biscuits were a nice touch and enjoyed by all! The rooms and cottage was very clean and quaint. The weekend live music was awesome too!! Pickleball courts were a plus!!!

Cons:

The Biergarten was closed M-W, which was a shame since the outdoor restaurant was centrally located and easy to grab a bite and watch whatever sports were on. The other main restaurant was good, but slow at times. Our waiter was fantastic and very attentive, however!

Family Reunion Weekend
Pros:

My family celebrated at Barnsley this weekend (27 people who stayed in 3 different houses, one of which was the Godfrey). Overall the property is beautiful, however the service in general could use improvement. We enjoyed the lodging, but our food experience was beyond disappointing. We ate dinner at the Woodlawn on Friday night. One of our families never got the dinner they ordered, so they left after appetizers. Another family was served the wrong dishes after waiting on hour. On Sunday morning, we waited over an hour for our breakfast and served ourselves coffee and water the entire meal. We inquired numerous times for our food, without a clear update.

Separate from that restaurant, the pool (which is lovely) service was unpredictable. They were bringing out wrong orders, several duplicate orders, etc. The pool was crowded, so this can be given extra grace.

Again, the property is lovely, but for the cost the service needs to be greatly improved.

No attention to detail
Pros:

Went to celebrate anniversary and wife’s birthday for weekend. Where is attention to detail in a 800 a night resort? 300 check-in. Room not ready until 430. Dinner reservation for anniversary at 600. Why should we be rushed because they don’t know how to get a room ready in a timely fashion? Parking at cottage. Drove down the lane. 3 other vehicles used double spaces to park vehicle. Mine is oversized too. I parked in double space too. Only to be to be vehicular assaulted by another quest telling me these are assigned spaces and swearing at me because and lying about it. The spaces are not assigned and she just didn’t want to walk an extra 20 feet. I called security. Where I come from if a guest wants to swear at other guests along with her husband about a parking space to another guest at an800 a. Night resort you get get kicked out? No procedures in the resort? To top it off package came with bottle of sparking wine. Didn’t know the red wine they gave us wouldn’t sparkle. Whole evening ruined. We left and got refund. Btw found at the outdoor. Restaurant was pathetic . Burger dry. Fries bland. I can go to McDonald’s for garbage food. Avoid this place. Even a. Tru hotel hotel would be a better experience

Entitled membership
Pros:

The resort is top notch however, do not include golf in your trip. There is membership at the course and members apparently don’t like nor want resort guests playing “their “ course. They hit into you if they feel you are not moving quickly enough and the course apparently cannot or will not say anything to the member.
Either go private at the course and don’t allow resort play or get your membership under control. It’s a shame because the staff and resort are very professional even the golf staff. Entitled membership will force people to choose other venues.

Kingston Cottage is not what you think!
Pros:

We just finished a Birthday Girl's Weekend. Our experience with Barnsley Resort was been almost a love/hate relationship. Our original weekend was scheduled in January. A snow/ice storm was in the weather forecast and it was very stressful for our hostess to get the reservation cancelled due to weather. The only option was to reschedule to another weekend. The house that was reserved was not available but the reservationist gave another larger house at the same price. We were very excited to have been rescheduled. (The storm did hit and we would not have been able to travel home until Monday). I had read about the Kingston Cottage and was very excited to see the expanded wet bar. Because the previous house had a full size kitchen and dining area it was assumed that the Kingston Cottage would have one. At the time of the reschedule nothing was mentioned about the lack of a kitchen or dining table. Imagine our surprise when we walked it and there was NO STOVE or Dining Table. There was a bar with 2 bar stools. The kitchen had a very large selection of cocktail glasses, plates and silverware. No coffee cups, dish clothes or towels , sponge, bowls, pitcher or items needed for mixing cocktails. The group who arrived early had to go to the beer garden for dinner when they had planned to cook dinner. There is an AWESOME Ice machine. The beds are comfortable, the porches and rocking chairs are nice and the seating arrangement is nice too. However, there were extra guests in the form of roaches. When we called on Saturday morning to mention that we had discovered the problem we were told that is unusual for the Kingston Cottage to have bugs. Our group believes that the Kingston Cottage is not rented very often and that explained the bug problem as well as lack of kitchen supplies. When we requested coffee mugs and a bowl to mix waffle batter both items were delivered promptly but still for the cost of the rental it was very disappointing that the items were needed in the first place.

We had reservations for dinner on Saturday at Jules and the meal was delicious.

2025 Christmas Brunch at Barnsley Jules Restaurant was a disaster!
Pros:

We attended the first Christmas Brunch hosted at Jules, and it was the worst experience that we have ever had in the 20+ years we have been going to Barnsley. This is not what we have come to expect from Barnsley. The menu was sub par, the food was not prepared well and when served was not played well and cold. Soup was cold with no spoon provided. We would have preferred to go to the Woodlands where we have never had a bad meal. Jules doesn't even come close to matching what the Rice House had to offer. Grossly overpriced. Last year we attended the Easter Brunch which was awesome, but because of our experience at Jules, we will not return this year. What has happened at Barnsley over the years is sad, we have had so many great memories there.

Wonderful surprise for a company retreat.
Pros:

This is my first time coming here but it's really lovely. I didn't expect a resort like this to be close to Atlanta but self-feel country so it was really quite nice. I sincerely recommend this place.

Great Resort!
Pros:

Great Resort! It has been many years since I have been here and it has only gotten better. Such a great setting. We stayed in the Inn, but there are also cottages which look like they would be a great option.

Loved it
Pros:

Wonderful! We arrived and were a bit disappointed because our room was not ready and pool was closed. We called in advance and they told us pool open and room ready…I had a massage booked so I went to that was ok. Our lunch was disappointing at woodlands as my husband is gluten free and we were told his tacos could be made gluten free and were fried. We had to wait quite a long time for our food and check. Ok so turn me around. Music seemed to be blasting each time we ate at woodlands and with large family groups it was very noisy . We stopped at Jules as we had reservations and the manager invited us to their event that evening. Ok hoping for a turnaround. We finally got our room and it was perfect. Delish cookies in the afternoon and scones in the morning were a delight. The dinner at Jules was beyond our expectations and so we ate there every night thereafter. The staff couldn’t have been more warm and kind. We loved it and can’t wait to return. Our last day we couldn’t shower —no hot water! Alas we still loved it and would return. This is truly a treasure.
