We stayed at Fragrant Nature Munnar from January 11th to 13th, and it ended up being one of our favourite stays in India.
After flying into Kochi, it’s quite a long and winding drive up into the hills to reach Munnar, but the scenery becomes more and more dramatic as you climb. The hotel is set overlooking tea plantations and rolling hills, and the views are genuinely spectacular.
The rooms are beautifully designed, spacious, and very comfortable. Waking up to the mist over the hills was a highlight of the trip. The infinity pool is also stunning and perfectly positioned to take in the landscape.
Food in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was strong, and we had dinner there one evening which was very good. It is expensive by local Indian standards, but you are paying for the setting and overall experience.
The hotel is quite a distance from the town of Munnar, and arranging taxis or tuk-tuks can be tricky, so it’s best suited to relaxing and enjoying the property rather than commuting back and forth.
A couple of areas around the hotel felt slightly tired and could benefit from some minor maintenance, but overall it didn’t detract from what was a fantastic stay.
If you’re looking for views, peace, and a scenic escape in Munnar, this is a really lovely option. We would happily have stayed a few more days.
We ( a group of 11 from New Zealand) had 3 nights at the Fragrant Nature resort, our base for exploring the tea plantations and sights around Munnar in the Western Ghats. This was a beautiful spot to stay. The views down into the valley overlooking the tea plantations are very special for those who haven't visited an area like this before. The swimming pool was secluded and the food choices at both breakfast and dinner were very good. Yes it was tricky and slower to get to for us as a group travelling by van/bus because the direct road over the nearby dam is height restricted. But that was a small price to pay for the opportunity to stay in a resort that is set well away from the hustle and noise of the main road through Munnar. Good walking options, comfortable rooms, comfrotable temperatures for us coming from our summer. Has to be one of the best options in the Munnar area.
Great stay, comfortable and welcoming staff. Good breakfast and facilities.
Guide on the organised hike through the tea plantations was excellent, friendly and informative.
Fabulous stay. Calm oasis. It’s a lovely hotel with wonderful views, good food and the staff are great. Did a super 7 am nature walk with Manimaram. Pool is stunning. Rooms have private balconies. Spa treatments are also great. I would definitely stay again.
We were warmly greeted when we arrived at Munnar’s Fragrant Nature. The staff are so attentive and can’t do enough for you. We stayed 2 nights and the food was delicious!
The range of Indian food for dinner was second to none, we throughly enjoyed it.
For breakfast you can have freshly prepared eggs (scrambled were great - very light and fluffy!) the Indian breakfast was good too!
Worth pointing out, we had read there was no license at the hotel so no alcohol/bar which is okay for a couple of nights.
The coffee shop is good with a range of cakes if you desire too. You get biscuits with your ordered drink so might not need the cake!
The staff were exemplary, particularly Saila and Nikita, so kind and offered us ice cream and tea and coffee after our dinner - the ice cream wasn’t out to help yourself to so we enjoyed the extra treat :)
Also, we went to a cooking demo with the chef - it was great, so informative and we got to try it at the end!
The hotel is on a series of floors down the cliff, there are lifts but you can take the stairs (which we chose to get our steps up!) Our room was upgraded so we had a terrace to sit out on, which was lovely in the sun!
We used the infinity pool which was in a gorgeous setting overlooking the valley and mountains - a real treat!
All in all we wish we could’ve stayed longer than a couple of days but, being on a tour, we had to move on - but we will probably go back in the future.
Finally, worth mentioning, the dawn chorus and overall birdsong is glorious and worth an early start one morning - with the light dawning it’s stunning!
It does get chilly at night since you’re in the mountains - take a cardi!
There is no doubt the views are impressive but behind those views the service is nothing like a 5 star hotel. The rooms are clean but when something is missing in the room don’t expect anything to happen.
Restaurant breakfast service is a 3 star at best.
Sadly outside the hotel it is dire and there is nowhere to go unless you journey far out.
Whilst at the hotel I never found anywhere in the hotel where you could even buy a Pepsi!
Beware the minibar prices don’t include the 40% tax. Not as though there is much in the minibar. The hotel does not pay the alcohol licence so there isn’t any.
It is worth a mention to look out for Azo dyes in drinks (sunset yellow), which made me extremely ill.
It was a good experience within the core of nature and excellent hospitality at the hotel.
Cool and calm environment suits the location of the hotel.
Overall an awesome place to visit
one of the best in munnar nice place must visit for every one . great hospitality. food was nice and lavish . keep the good work up
The hotel is set in a beautiful location. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the service was excellent.
The hotel is beautiful with excellent surrounding. View from rooms are extraordinary. Rooms are good, bathrooms are very nice. Service is excellent. Only problem is food. Choice and taste of vegetarian food is very limited
We had a lovely two night stay here, with my parents (3 adults and 2 children). The view from the room is spectacular and it has a lovely little outdoor seating area (we were level -6).
The infinity pool is beautiful, the gym clean and the food lovely.
The staff are incredibly friendly and seem to genuinely care about your enjoyment of the stay.
Highly recommended.
Had a really fantastic stay at the hotel. The bonfire prepared by Manimaran was just wonderful, and the whole atmosphere in the hotel is magical.
If you go, make sure to wake up in time to catch sunrise, the panorama is stunning! You’ll wake up to the beautiful sound of birds.
The restaurant is really really good as well, highly recommend!
Stunning views, friendly and super super helpful staff. We loved our stay in this hotel, the tea plantation tour, the food, the views is breathtaking. Most of all the staff were really helpful when one of our party left their passport and cash in the room safe. We only realised after arriving at our next hotel 5 hours away. Both were returned the next day after the hotel arranged for another driver heading out way to deliver the items - we were following a typical route for Kerala - Mumbai, Thekkady, kumaraton so lots of people typical head the same route. Our trip would have been ruined without their help. Thank you so much. We hope we will be lucky enough to be back again.
It was a great experience. Especially if you are Jain food you worry how will the food be in south however Chef Alex made it special for us. He and his team were very helpful. The place is wonderful in terms of room and the scenic view. I think its a great location and well done work interriors and the team makes your stay special! There are some activities within the hotel to do as well.
Very good. Room had wonderful view. Service was excellent. Very friendly staff. Meals were good. Stay wasgood overall
Lovely hotel with a breathtaking view from the room! We enjoyed every minute of our stay.
We would definitely stay here again.
Our stay at Fragrant Nature Munnar was amazing! The resort is very beautiful and serene with beautiful views of the mountains. The rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were very warm, attentive and always ready to help. They welcomed us with some local Munnar cinnamon tea upon arrival. They had very delicious breakfast which had a variety of options included for free. They also had tea, coffee with snacks in the afternoon. They had various activities and we opted to do the tea plantation walk where they gave us a guided tour of a nearby plantation and told us about the history as well. Their infinity pool was very fun with amazing view of the mountains. They had 2 different restaurants for dining options with some really good local and international food. I’d definitely recommend staying at Fragrant Nature in Munnar.
Excellent service, well equipped room.Food was fantastic. Views from the room was breathtaking. Room was spacious. Bathroom and toilet was clean and maintained.
very spacious rooms more than enough room to move around etc, they give a homey type of feeling and are comfortable and clean
Loved the views and the tour walking through the tea plants was very nice. Breakfast was abundant every morning! Lots of different options.
