Great hotel with amazing views
Pros:

Friendly hotel staff. Warm welcome and not just for golfers. Lovely grounds, great green and good solid breakfast. Room was decent, comfy, clean, sheets were soft and new. No issues.

lovely setting, friendly staff, but requires a refurb
Pros:

I stayed in Room 12 over the weekend and paid an additional fee for the “upgrade.”
Although I did have a lovely weekend with my family, and the grounds are lovely. There were several issues with the room.

I noticed and had to clear cobwebs from the ceiling.
The toilet did not flush properly and often required two or three attempts even for liquids - when i complained on the Saturday morning I was told maintenance weren't in at the weekend.
In the shower cubicle, there were flies caught in spider webs that hadn’t been cleaned.

Additionally:
There are no mirrors at head height near any plug sockets, which makes getting ready inconvenient.
To charge my phone by the bed, I had to unplug the only table lamp in the room, there are no USB ports and not even a double socket available.

The hotel is in need of a refurb..

Freezing cold room.
Pros:

Let’s start with the good points, we stayed the night to celebrate our golden wedding. The staff were lovely, especially in the restaurant, where they made us very welcome with a special dessert.
Now the not so good points, the room was cold, with only a small fan heater for heating. The bathroom was freezing, when we asked for the towel rail to be switched on, we were told it was off for health and safety reasons. It was so cold we slept in our socks.
During the night I found something in our bed, which felt like a credit card. In the morning I discovered it was the housekeepers key. So had the bed been made or checked at all?
The shower was over the bath, the bath was very high. My husband didn’t feel safe using the shower as he could have slipped. I did risk it, but didn’t feel safe.
We asked to speak to manager to raise these points when we checked out and was given 20% off the bill. But they have failed to reply to my email, so hence the poor review. Do not stay here in the winter as you will freeze.

Better hotels available
Pros:

I stayed for two nights. The room was cold, the tv didn't work, fire escapes are propped open in the evenings, and my key card failed to work on two separate occasions. The worst by far though was having my room also allocated to another guest who was able, with key, to walk straight in to my room. I would not stay here again. Food mediocre. Staff unconcerned with issues. Location pleasant.

Country Manor Retreat in Peaceful Location
Pros:

The hotel is situated away from the main road up a long driveway so it's peace and quiet in extensive grounds featuring a golf course. Plenty of free car parking. Room was comfy, and warm. My bedroom was on the ground floor so easy access. It had a decent sized TV, private bathroom and air conditioning which seemed a little chilly on startup but within a short time heated the room. It's operated with a remote control so you can set your own temperature. I was warmly welcomed on arrival and the attentive service by the staff made me feel i was a special guest . Dinner was a delightful affair with some good menu choices and my choice of dessert was a bread and butter pudding with custard that was made to perfection, light buttery and fluffy. Breakfast is well catered for as well with the usual english breakfast choices but also the continental options are there for people who want a lighter start to the day. Exit time on the morning of departure is by 11am, which is plenty of time to have a lie in and make a relaxed departure.

Cons:

The bathroom seemed to need one of those scrapers that clear the droplets from the screen after a shower. There wasn't one i could see. But a shower mat was there and a grip rail so well done for safety provision.

The staff are fantastic
Pros:

Having read some of the negative reviews before we came, I would say that they are right and wrong, Firstly the wrong, the food is excellent and very good value, quality ingredients for dinner and breakfast. Where the negative views are right is in terms of the rooms, telephones dont work, tvs might work and the general state of repair is poor, curtains kept up by paper clips, scratched up and damaged furniture, sadly it is falling apart. We stayed in a double room, room 44, having been moved from room 27 because it was actually worse. Then there is the heating, the electric heater was problematic to get working but you shouldn't need a portable heater anyway. We enjoyed our stay, but this was down to the staff who were wonderful and the food which was excellent. This place could be outstanding, but whoever owns it needs to put their hand in their pocket and spend some money on it. It is not fair on the staff to take the brunt for a tight fussed owner!

Awful treatment from manager Charlie
Pros:

The building is beautiful and so are the grounds.

Cons:

The manager Charlie is the reason we will never stay at Shendish Manor again and I warn others to be very careful if they have any conversation with him. We arrived for our stay and had booked a Manor House Superior double room. We got the keys to our room and opened it to a standard room. We went back to reception and explained that wasn’t the room we paid for and they said our room was out of order and we would have to stay in a standard. Reception said they should’ve contacted us before we arrived about the superior room now being unavailable but forgot. We then went to the standard room and the TV didn’t work and there was no heating. It also had a strange smell. We had to go back to reception and they had to find us another room. We had to wait an hour. The manager Charlie promised us a full refund as we’d paid for an expensive room and not only was unable to stay in it, but also had over an hour in reception and two changes. When we had checked out the hotel and submitted the refund request, Charlie denied ever offering a full refund. He tried not to respond to me for a month and then was very rude and denied everything. Be very careful if you ever have issues and Charlie promises to sort them as you cannot trust him. He clearly promised to approve my full refund as soon as it goes through to him as we did not receive the room we had paid for an had such an awful experience. I’m very upset and offended about how he handled this situation. I am often in the area and would have stayed at Shendish Manor again as I completely understand mistakes happen. However for a manager to lie to my face and then speak to me so rudely after is appalling and I can’t believe someone like this is even employed there.

Fantastic Venue & Team – A Memorable Event
Pros:

We recently hosted a charity event at Shendish Manor and it truly was a fantastic experience from start to finish.

From the planning stage, Naya was incredibly helpful and organised, making the whole process feel smooth and stress-free. She was always on hand to answer questions and help bring everything together, which made such a difference when organising a large event.

On the night itself the setting was absolutely beautiful - it honestly felt like a scene from Downton Abbey! The atmosphere in the room was wonderful and the whole evening ran seamlessly.

The food was excellent and received lots of compliments from our guests. A special thank you also to Mohammed and James who were brilliant on the evening – professional, attentive and so friendly throughout.

We’ve had so much glowing feedback from our guests about the venue, the service and the overall experience. It was the perfect place to host our event and we’re incredibly greatful to the whole Shendish team for helping make it such a memorable night.

Thank you again to everyone involved.
