Breakfast was fine. But it's on a very busy main city road, with no possibility of even stopping outside. Parking for four small cars
Impossible for a Landcruiser.
Rooms are very small
Lift is antique, and requires a four digit code plus holding down the floor button the whole way
The breakfast at Terra was great!
And although it was a bit tight, it’s nice you can park the car on premises.
The room is way too expensive for what you get. To be honest the family room I booked (only available room) looked a bit like an outdated b&b, while for the high price I paid you can get much better hotels in Stellenbosch. They should renovate the room, maybe then they could justify the price.
Location, comfort
Maintenance to be done on lift, doors and drawers in room
Location and staff were amazing, it’s clean and comfortable
The room we had had an open shower, basically open to the room and the toilet door wasn’t a proper door. Not much privacy
Very nice place in the heart of Stellenbosch. I really enjoyed the breakfast and the kind service. Looking forward to my next stay
Location
Very small and not worth the rate per night
The location was ideal
The staff were super helpful and friendly
The breakfast at the restaurant, Terra, was excellent and the staff there were very good. One of the waiters even went above and beyond by recommending a laundromat to us, walked to the laundromat and took a picture of their prices, address etc and came back to show us, while we were still eating our meal…..now that is 5-star service!!!!
If we have to be critical…Maybe the parking….but we walked everywhere we needed to go as it was such a central location
Excellent location and lovely room,
Sammy the night guard was awesome and an absolute pleasure to see each evening.
I have already sent a review regarding this hotel. For a so called 5 star place it fell short of a few stars . Noisy corridors .. people , your staff screaming. The corridors all day long whilst cleaning.. there was some alteration happening which was just none stop banging . No coat hangers inn closet , lamp
no working, plug points in need of repair .. lack of coffee refills … nor even an I umbrella to sit outside in the sat. The wall outside is just such sewage pipes which we could smell . I won’t be back.
Die Lage
Ziemlich renovierungsbedürftiges Zimmer. Stinkt nach Reinigungsmittel. Extrem hellhörig Bad leichte Schimmelflecken. Internet/Wlan trotz mehrfacher Nachfrage ging nicht.
Ein paar Möbel sollten mal erneuert werden.
From the moment we arrived at 107 Dorpstraat, we were greeted warmly and professionally, with an easy, friendly check-in that set the tone for the stay. The staff really are the standout feature here: attentive, proactive, and genuinely lovely. Any minor issues we had with the room were dealt with quickly and to our complete satisfaction, and it genuinely feels like people enjoy working here.
Breakfast is available, and once again the staff are friendly and accommodating. The menu, however, is quite limited and leans toward the overly fancy. Some simpler, lighter options (like poached eggs and toast) would be very welcome, especially for longer stays when a rich breakfast every morning can be a bit much.
The bar is a pleasant spot to sit in the evening and watch the world go by, though it closes quite early and isn’t open on Sundays - fairly typical for Stellenbosch, but still worth noting.
Location-wise, the hotel really excels. It’s set on a peaceful street lined with cafés, bars, shops, and a market, and it’s only a five-minute walk from the livelier Church Street.
Overall, this is a small hotel that generally makes very good use of the space and resources it has.
It has a fantastic team and an excellent location, but would really benefit from some practical improvements to rooms and facilities to fully match the warmth and quality of the service.
We stayed in the self-catering family suite. While the website notes that it has been recently renovated, it already feels a little worn and in need of some maintenance. The suite is well equipped in principle, but there are some practical oversights - for a “family” room, having just one clothes hanger and one set of cutlery available feels oddly inadequate. Space is also quite tight; even for two people it feels snug, and it would be a real squeeze for a family of four, particularly with the sofa bed in use.
The bathroom layout is another drawback. Instead of a proper door, it has loosely sliding door that doesn’t fully close or seal, which means privacy is limited. This is made worse by an unpleasant drain smell at times, something a proper door would help contain.
On the plus side, the balcony at the back is a lovely feature, with a table where you can enjoy the sunshine. Unfortunately, that same sunshine becomes a problem early in the morning as the room has sheer, non-blackout curtains. As soon as the sun rises, the room fills with light, making sleep difficult. The suite’s location behind the main building also means early-morning staff activity, with noticeable noise from shouting and moving items around - not ideal for light sleepers.
Parking is available if you are lucky. There are four spaces available, but they are very tight, making it stressful to manoeuvre in and out. There is a supervised public car park just a couple of minutes’ walk away, which we found to be a much easier option and would recommend.
