Perfect stay
Pros:

I couldn't find a thing wrong with this Hotel. Perfect.

Cons:

$38 fee to park my car. I received my car and keys but no bill. The I ask the girl if I owed anything and she said no, all set. I had assumed that it was part of Hotel bill but definitely not.

A disappointing experience that fell far short of Marriott standards
Pros:

I am an international visiting researcher staying at this property as a guest of the University of Michigan. During my stay, a prescription medication — a Mounjaro injection pen, valued at approximately $1112 — went missing from the refrigerator in my room following a housekeeping visit on Friday. I had used the pen on Wednesday and can confirm with certainty it was present before the room was serviced.
What followed was a two-week exchange with the General Manager, Ms. Mercedes Provost, that ultimately led nowhere. The property conducted an internal review, interviewed the housekeeping staff, and concluded there was no wrongdoing — which I respect as a process. What I cannot accept is what came next: I was told that the only path to reimbursement was to file a police report and produce the original purchase receipt for the medication.
As an international guest, I do not travel with pharmacy receipts for my prescription medications. This is not a reasonable expectation of any traveler. In practice, these two requirements made any form of resolution completely inaccessible to me. At no point during this process did the property offer any alternative — no goodwill gesture. Nothing.
A prescription medication disappeared from a locked room after a housekeeping visit. The guest was sent away with an apology and a set of impossible conditions. That is not the standard Marriott guests should expect, and it is not the experience I anticipated when I chose this property on the University's recommendation.
I share this not out of anger, but because future guests — particularly international visitors and those traveling with medical necessities — deserve to know what kind of support they can expect if something goes wrong during their stay.

Great guys at the desk!
Pros:

Cameron and Shane were SO helpful! We were in for a conference and they were there for us with any question or request that popped up. They’ve got you with anything you need.

Valet service was on top of it even though it was very busy.

Rooms were nice, location was easy.

Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Pros:

The room was very nice. It has a nice kitchen (although I would change the lightbulbs to 3000K; trust me) and is big enough to host a pregame party, which is what we needed it for :)

Cons:

The check in process was extremely stressful. They upgraded the rooms without saying anything at check in. Usually that is fine, but I had planned out the room types based on the people staying in them (it was a bachelorette party, and some people didn't know each other, so I didn't think they should room together, whereas other people did know each other and could be together easily). They needed everyone's first and last names at check in, usually fine as well, but they asked me to spell them verbally... which honestly was kind of tough. And when I asked to just write them down, the people working there gave me a hard time. To be honest, I would have preferred less of an upgrade and more to be on the same floor all together. Additionally, the room was really hot when I first arrived and I couldn't get it to cool down. It was cold outside so this seemed really weird, &the windows didn't open in the living space, only in the bedroom area. I adjusted the thermostat & it made no difference until about 8 hours later. I turned it back down, & in the morning, it was now freezing in the bedroom area, and back to being hot in the living space. It made sleeping very uncomfortable. It turned out there was a second thermostat I hadn't seen... still not sure which one worked on the bedroom. They were both in the living space. Also, parking was a nightmare. I called ahead to ask if parking was included in our stay, since there is a public lot very close. And the person on the phone rudely said "Oh NO! It's not. We have a valet service that costs extra though! And parking is free after midnight!" I thought okay, it will probably be cheaper that way.... well it wasn't. And the parking garage is under construction. And not accessible from the hotel's street currently. I really wish the person on the phone would have taken the time to explain that. I'm sure lots of people have questions about this.

Fantastic stay!
Pros:

We stayed five nights at the Residence Inn Downtown Ann Arbor and had a great experience. We were fortunate to have a panoramic king suite on the fourth floor and it was a perfect setup for my husband and me and our dog. It was well-equipped with what we needed (the only ding there would be that some grout by the shower door wall and floor could use some love). And FYI, if you’re tall and/or have bad knees, the toilet is LOW.

The staff were all exceptional. Adrianna, Stephen, and the new guy (whose name escapes me, but he is rocking it) all went above and beyond. When we requested a needed refresh for the suite cookware, it was personally delivered by the hotel manager, Mercedes Provost, who is fantastic. We were high-maintenance guests and they didn’t bat or roll an eye.

The breakfast buffet was top-notch. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared, with a solid selection of daily continental staples and a rotation of cooked items. The host for the first few days of our stay (again, not recalling his name), was very personable and professional, and didn’t once slow me down when I came strolling up with my wheelbarrow :)

The pool was closed for repairs, so that was a bummer, but not a big deal. It would have been good to know that in advance, but that could be logistically impossible for the staff.

Certainly not for a lack of dedicated trying by the team, but we were not able to stream NBA games to the TV from our streaming service on our device without the volume at 100%. It seems the hospitality TVs have a setting that can’t be adjusted, which in this age of streaming seems archaic, but this a reflection on the industry and not hotel-specific.

The location worked very well us, right downtown with an easy walk to campus. There is construction happening at the side street, which we didn’t notice from our room location, but could be bothersome for those in the rooms on the back side.

We are well-travelled, and this hotel ranks high on the list of stays. We will be back.

Really great…my new go to hotel!
Pros:

This is the best location. And the only downtown hotel that includes breakfast in the rate already so I don’t have to worry about calculating that in.

Easy choice
Pros:

We stayed for two weeks, and had an all around great experience. The only non-standard thing was parking, but that’s a tradeoff for being downtown. Location was great. Rooms were spacious and clean. There was near zero noise in the room, overall great value for the money.

The front desk staff was awesome whenever we needed them, or just being friendly. Special shout out to Cameron, Shane, and Steve, thanks for making it a great stay.

I would definitely return.
