Pros:

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Little Haven Hotel in South Shields and it has always been wonderful to be there. The location is beautiful. The views are beautiful. Staff is very friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. Very peaceful and serene. Although the room had some issues I look forward to visiting the property again.

Cons:

Music was very loud for some events for a couple of nights. Room has a few issues to be fixed, namely, front door wouldn't lock, room ceiling light was not working, towel rack in bathroom wouldn't heat up, safe could not be used.

overpriced for poor breakfast and non existent WiFi in bedrooms
Pros:

Room was large clean and facilities except WiFi were good

Cons:

There was no WiFi in the bedroom which today is very poor .Had to go into communal space to obtain reliable WiFi
Part of the breakfasts were poor .The coffee was tasteless .The cooked breakfast was poor . scrambled eggs were dreadful and were the mushrooms and tomatoes ( tinned in first day and hard and green on the other days . ) The poached eggs were far better . Overall not a standard one would expect for the price paid off season

Excellent quality food
Pros:

We came for lunch and had sandwiches and a jacket potato with extra chips and hot drinks. All of the food was excellent quality and reasonably priced. The conservatory is comfortable and has great views over the river Tyne.

When the cook can burn meat balls ....

I have not been to this hotel for over 20 years and was curious . Oh boy do I wish I'd driven on . Spicy meat balls for starter .. burnt to a sinder with a none descriptive sauce . They go back and take s o long to come back the main has been served and this time the bread is burnt. Obviously a cook with no pride in what they do . Little haven burger very ordinary, Spoons on a bad day.

Overall somewhere where they have a captive market from their residents and really don't dare what they offer

Hotel yes... Restaurant no.
Pros:

The both of us stayed for one of our birthdays, perfect location for peace & quiet. Views are absolutely unreal.
Lovely member of staff at check in,
The warmth was immediately welcomed too!
Our room, was immaculate!!! Everything was immaculate, from the carpets too the toilet, warm room & hot water, we couldn't find a speck of dust in the whole hotel or even a negative point....... untill breakfast, The dining area requires some immediate cleaning, the dust, the cobwebs, the dirty table cloth, the dirty floor, the roof the green algae is rather off putting also, 5 of us eating in the dining area, 2 being ourselves our food = ( beans sausage & 2 hash brown) took near 25 minutes, food was lukewarm at best, (chef had long shoulder hair no hair net/hat being worn) can't comment on the bar area as we do not drink so didn't use this facility.

I'd 100% reccomend a stay at the hotel, as that was immaculate and we would stay ourselves again, however would not book/eat there unfortunately.

Amazing staff who go above and beyond!
Pros:

We’ve just returned from a two night stay at this beautiful hotel, and we genuinely cannot thank the staff enough for how friendly and attentive they have been.
We arrived to find that there was an issue with our hotel room door, and the staff were so supportive and responsive, and arranged for us to be upgraded to a junior suite, which was a really lovely surprise and decision from them. The room was fantastic, along with the view, and the extra touches in the room were another lovely surprise. The managers didn’t have to upgrade us, so we were extremely touched that they did, as we’ve had an awful start to the year as a family, so being shown such kindness was such a lovely boost. We honestly cannot thank you enough.
The hotel was incredibly busy and yet each and every member of staff maintained compassion and respect and were always smiling and helpful, which is so commendable, given how many people were using the hotel facilities. Hospitality is a hard role, and yet all staff remained professional and respectful.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Cheryl, the lovely head of housekeeping, who made sure that we had everything we needed, and even arranged for us to have an extra heater in the room, after I explained that my mam was unwell and was feeling the cold. Cheryl came to see us before we left and asked if mam was feeling better, and it’s this kind of compassion and kindness that makes people want to return time after time.
We genuinely cannot thank you all enough for how kind you all were and for supporting mam and I throughout our stay.
We are hoping to return again soon!

Amazing stay where the staff went above and beyond!
Pros:

We had the most amazing stay from start to finish, I’d told them it was my little girls birthday expecting maybe a couple balloons but they went above and beyond, there where banners, lots of balloons, beautifully decorated towels, sweeties for her and a card from all of the staff my little girl was so happy! The view from our room was beautiful, the beds very comfy and the breakfast the next morning was amazing the children got to see the dfds ferry coming in and the lady even opened the door for us to go outside and get a better look, the ladies at breakfast where extremely helpful and really nice. All in all a fantastic stay and would definitely come back again! Thankyou

Pros:

The staff.........
Each & Every member of staff that we met we're a real credit to the hotel........
NOTHING was too much trouble......

Cons:

Although clean the hotel was 'dated', in need of a tidy up.... . A lick of paint.........some modernisation & some minor repairs
Our room was, for the price, ok 👍🏻 but a few attention to details ( replace old bath panels, broken toilet seat connections )
My bed was broken & the heating in the room not working (although no sooner mentioned the staff brought another heater and we were warm enough).....AMAZING staff.....
With a little investment and TLC this hotel could DEFINITELY charge more......
If in the area again, I WOULD stay here again...

Honest review of a lovely stay.
Pros:

Beautifully situated, friendly and attentive staff. we booked the Collingwood suite which was lovely. The sofa prehaps needs replacing, you sink to the side! but still comfortable and some handles off draws missing. Other than than that we were very happy with the accommodation and slept well. I think the price broadly reflects the room, so no complaints there really though WiFi not great and couldn't get Netflix. It was spotlessly clean and tidy, warm and smelt fresh. Not aware of noise especially. I would suggest that having a service room menu would be nice even if it is a reduced one as having to go down to order it defeats the object! Cooked breakfast was ok, poached eggs perfect but sausage and bacon could have been a bit better. Having said all that we enjoyed our stay, it is a three star hotel but it would be lovely to see it strive to be a four star. I have tried to be honest with this review but overall we had a lovely stay and would come back.

Extremely disappointing New Year's Eve Gala. No Response from Management
Pros:

After raising our concerns by phone, we were advised by the management team to submit our complaint in writing, which we did via email and letter, followed by a further chase email. Unfortunately, having received no acknowledgement or response to any of this correspondence, we feel we have no option but to share our experience publicly.

Our overnight stay at The Little Haven Hotel for the New Year’s Eve Gala was extremely disappointing and fell well below the standard we have previously experienced at your hotel.

We chose to book this New Year’s Eve stay specifically because of our previous visit, which was organised to perfection and could not have been better. That experience gave us complete confidence to return, making this year’s visit all the more disappointing.

On arrival, our room was freezing cold and very uncomfortable. We were forced to leave the room and go to the downstairs bar for coffee while waiting for it to warm up, which was an unacceptable start to what was meant to be a special evening.

We attended the gala dinner at 7:00pm, with food scheduled to be served at 7:30pm. However, it was 7:50pm before our starter arrived. My wife’s starter consisted of eight mussels, which were completely cold and served with only a lukewarm sauce.

After this, we were left waiting until approximately 8:50pm before being allowed to approach the buffet. Our table was the last to be served. By this time, there was hardly any salmon left. As a result, we decided against eating it and instead opted for the beef and pork from the carvery. Unfortunately, the vegetable selection was extremely limited.

The only vegetables available were roast potatoes, sprouts, and broccoli, all of which were barely warm. The meat was the only item served hot. When I went to the dessert counter, there was almost nothing left, once again because our table was served last and other tables were able to return for second portions before we had even received our first. Only five profiteroles remained. Although the staff kindly provided me with a crumble and custard from the kitchen, this should not have been necessary and highlights the poor organisation of the evening.

At a cost of £96 per person for the gala buffet, this experience represented extremely poor value for money. We raised our concerns on the night with the restaurant manager regarding both the quality of the food and the cost of the evening.

Sadly, the following morning did little to improve matters, as breakfast was once again only lukewarm. We would have raised our concerns further, but were informed that the hotel manager was not available. At that stage, we simply wanted to return home.

Overall, the evening was poorly organised and the standard of food and service was unacceptable, particularly when compared to our previous visit, which set a very high standard and made this year’s experience all the more disappointing.

We have made several attempts to resolve this matter privately and would still welcome a response to our email and written complaint. We hope the management team will now acknowledge our concerns and explain how they intend to address them.
