My husband and I stayed at the Maxwell mansion for our mini honeymoon in July. We enjoyed the old timey vintage vibes. It was unique and memorable. It felt special to make memories there.
There was a lot of good about this hotel. It has the theme down to a tea - great decor, clean, and fun, eclectic bars. Plus, the staff seemed lovely and the location is something you can't beat!
But there were a few unusual things that made it not so fun. For starters, considering the price we paid per night, I was disappointed that the toilet rocked (needs to be tightened) and there wasn't a shelf in the shower for our things. That sounds trivial but it is a thing. Not a problem, though, the tub was great and the bed comfortable.
But the really strange thing was a seating area outside that was literally four feet from our door... that had people sitting at it regularly! This meant there wasn't any privacy in the room, other than to close the curtains. That stinks to have no natural light because people can stare into your room, and the mood lighting made it slightly harder to see within the room itself. Then, the air conditioning would blow the curtains open, so people could still see in, and there was no way to anchor the curtains down.
If the price of the hotel had not been so high, I would have said the quirks outweighed the inconvenience.
The stay was overall good. The staff was good, the property was unique and clean, and the room was nice. I also enjoyed the secret basement bar. The location is great as well because it is located within walking distance of the lake and shopping district.
My only suggestion for improvement is the rooms in Carriage House needs to be sound proofed better. Wasn't able to sleep due to the creaks and bumps from other residents.
The other improvement would be that food should be able to be available earlier than 11am. 11am is too late to be ordering food from within the hotel.
We stayed at Maxwell Mansion for a wedding weekend and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The front desk staff provided outstanding customer service and went above and beyond to be friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully appointed, and the hotel grounds were just as gorgeous. Renee and Pops in the Speakeasy were a blast!! This has quickly become one of our favorite hotels, and we can't wait to return for another visit as soon as possible!
A short 1 hour drive from the north suburbs of Chicago. Had an excellent evening with great service. Will return again.
My husband and I wanted to get away for a short trip to Lake Geneva and Maxwell Mansion fit the bill. We stayed in the Bridle Suite in the stables. The room had beautiful, rustic decor. It was the most unique place we have ever stayed. The location is wonderful as it’s just a 2 min drive to downtown Lake Geneva. We enjoyed the quiet pool, sipping on Nathan’s hand-crafted cocktails at the Apothecary, and sitting out by the fire while listening to live music. We were disappointed to see that the speakeasy was closed the whole time we were there (Tuesday and Wednesday night). I didn’t notice that ahead of time. We were looking forward to checking that out so that was a bummer for us. We heard from other regulars that it is very cool and that guests get the first hour to themselves. We will try to book our next trip to have at least one day when the speakeasy is open. The grounds were beautifully maintained. It would be a wonderful place to have a wedding and have your wedding party stay there. We will return and are hoping to bring some friends to join us.
The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, with some interesting furnishings and features. Connor in The Apothecary Bar was very pleasant and knowledgeable.
Overall, a great stay. Only concerns were that front desk was left unattended. Waited ten minutes to check in. Also, some of the main house furnishings are tattered and worn. Still, will gladly stay again.
My husband and I have stayed here twice now and just love it! The rooms are beautiful and clean, and decorated so well. Our first time we stayed in the stables and this time we stayed in the Carriage House. both had special touches, and also appreciated the bottles of water and coffee in the room. The grounds are amazing, with the pool, fire pits and areas to sit and relax. The apothacary and speakeasy are so fun and give you plenty of drink options, there is no reason to go anywhere else during your stay. We will definitely be back!
This is a unique property with lots of charm. We loved staying in the themed rooms in the main mansion. Our favorite thing was hanging out in The Speakeasy. The vibe, the drinks and the service were amazing.
Great ambience, comfortable bed, and good drinks! We stayed in the mansion and wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Easy walking distance to downtown Lake Geneva and the lake itself.
Our one night stay at Maxwell Mansion was everything we needed! The Apothecary, outdoor fire pits, and room were amazing!
Maxwell Mansion is one of our favorite hotels for many reasons. The charm, history, beauty, the staff… all of it! This recent trip we decided to bring our dog along with us- something we’ve never done before. We were blown away with how welcoming and hospitable the team was to our pooch! Our room was catered to her needs just as much as it was ours. These special touches made her first “dog-cation” a truly memorable experience!
My husband and I wanted a quiet, romantic getaway weekend and Maxwell Mansion did not disappoint. We stayed in one of the Stables Suites and it was perfect! I love my morning coffee and the expansive kitchenette with mini refrig, coffee maker and sink was handy. The king sized bed was comfy and we loved the heated floors! The amazing steam shower was another pleasant surprise. Just a few minutes from downtown Lake Geneva, we dined at various restaurants, explored unique shops and found a hidden gem in the Lake Geneva Musuem. Perfect weekend!
The room itself was nice and clean. That’s about it.
They had me stay in the “mansion” itself. It was like you were staying upstairs at a frat party. The had events every night and it was incredibly loud. Until 12:30 am. Their response - we could give you ear plugs. My favorite - quiet hours are until bar close. No specific hour. Then on the last night at 8:30 pm they decided to say “ we could offer you a different room.”
Beautiful clean and relaxing! The steam shower is AMAZING in the stable rooms! Very clean and fun hotel!
The Royal vibe
All was great
Great getaway for a fun weekend in Lake Geneva! Walking distance to town! Beautiful grounds. Best reason to stay - The Speakeasy, The Apothecary and the location! Service was top notch - bartenders make some delicious & unique cocktails! We will be back!
Very dog friendly. Clean comfortable room. Right by the lake and downtown. Would definitely recommend.
First of all our room was amazing, we stayed in the carriage house. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The speakeasy is an absolute gem, such a cool experience. Renee was great!
