Location by the water
The ground floor reception, dining and rear terrace have recently been renovated and were excellent
the hotel is in the process of renovating all the bedrooms but the bedrooms at the front, facing the street, which included our room are dated and noise through the old windows loud
Great location, beautifully decorated. Comfortable beds, lovely restaurant and bar. Delicious food too!
The noise from the street was a very slight irritation.
Location, staff, terrace view, good restaurant bar with friendly staff throughout.
The bedroom fan hinge was broken and the fan small and ineffective
Great location, amazing views, good service and all round high quality experience. Would strongly recommend
Great location and an old fashioned charm combined with excellent service. No parking but unloading directly outside acceptable and car parks not too far away. The views to the estuary are awesome although it’s unlikely you’ll get a great view from your bedroom as the windows are in the corner. However, the disappointment I felt, having specifically asked for a great view, was lessened by the lovely staff and excellent service. The room was large, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom luxurious. If I had a slight niggle it’s that the open wardrobe could have been located in less obvious eye-line. Laying in bed everything is on display. The stairs are steep - we were on the second floor- and the small set to access the room had no handrail. Coffee machine in room. Cleanliness outstanding. Now for the breakfast! The best bacon I’ve ever eaten and the breakfasts were individually served and were amazingly good. A beautifully run small hotel and although we didn’t get to eat there the evening menu looked great. All in all a great stay.
Firstly, a lovely, well presented hotel with a great restaurant, high quality fixtures & fittings and in a very central location in Fowey.
However, the website is sadly lacking in realistic detail about the room we booked…
We booked what we believed was a good quality room (The Quay View) which has a wonderful vista of the water from the main windows..
Firstly, what isn’t clear on the website is that it is around 50 stairs/steps up to the room from the ground floor and there is no lift. This should be made clear on the website as it would definitely prove a challenge for some guests..
Secondly and something we were frustrated about - it had no wardrobe or clothes hanging space - just a few drawers and hooks on the back of the door! We had booked for 5 nights so had a decent amount of luggage so it was a problem for us and clearly would be for any guests staying longer than a few nights… We spoke to the manager about it and requested a different room but the hotel was full - he said he would mention it to ‘head office’ and confirmed he had done so before we left at the end of our stay..
Finally, the description of the the outside space of the room was sadly inaccurate - it states on the website “ separate small side balcony, perfect for a restful morning coffee by the water” in reality it is a quite grubby, tiny space with a bit of dated and wobbly decking and a messy wall directly in front of it (admittedly, with a view of the water to the side.) Nesting seagulls offered an interesting aroma and background albeit they were behind a dated and weathered screen at the one end.. Images attached for complete transparency of our review - rest assured, morning coffee in the space would not be pleasant and certainly not restful…. Again, a more accurate description on the website would be useful..
Breakfast was lovely and dinner in the restaurant was excellent (book in advance as it gets very busy..)
The water facing terrace at the front of the restaurant is quite superb…
We wouldn’t recommend the room we had but feel the hotel has so much going for it - we just wish the website had been clearer and we would have changed the room and then, no doubt, had a wonderful stay..
Fantastic location overlooking Fowey river. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent.
A small refrigerator in each room would be a cheap and welcome addition especially as fresh milk and water is provided each day.
We love this hotel but unfortunately no parking. The nearest car park was about 15 mins walk away. Also no lift & many stairs. We had an upgrade so had half a view of the river which was nice. Our ensuite was down six steps.
My husband fell in the shower as no shower mat, (he was ok!) so I asked reception for slip mat, supplied promptly.
Breakfast was good but I had the Eggs Benedict and the eggs were excellent but chef did not toast the muffin or maybe it looked at grill! This spoilt my breakfast as it was like eating eggs on bread! Told a staff member who offered me something else. It was not busy at that time , 2 other couples .
Despite this I recommend the hotel.
A drink or 2 on their patio with a good book is the best place in Fowey!
Staff were great, friendly but not overbearing. Lovely comfy bed & decor.
I would stay again but only on first floor regardless of cost.
small hotel with a nice restaurant with a view over the quay - nice enough for an overnight stay in Fowys. We had three rooms - the quay view room on the 3rd floor seemed slightly overpriced for the size but the classic rooms with no water view seemed better value. Also, with hindsight, we would have preferred to leave our main luggage in the car, parked and walked to the hotel with just an overnight bag as drop off/pick up of luggage was a bit of a pain on the tiny streets and there is no lift.
Beautiful right on the estuary, fabulous views, very clean and modern decor
Very central, great views from our bedroom.
Nothing
Location - by the estuary, near the Eden Project and in the centre of the town
Lack of car parking spaces next to hotel
Lovely spot to stay. The deck overlooking the water is truly delightful for views and a sunset glass of wine.
