Great amenities and location
Went into my 1-night stay at SpringHill Suites Milwaukee Downtown with optimism given the great reviews, which is why I feel compelled to share my experience after having stayed there.
When I arrived, Matt (I believe) at check-in completely ignored me standing there despite us being the only two humans in the lobby. There was also a young man sitting in an office to the side who briefly looked up from a phone and then back down again. I said "Excuse me?" a couple of times and on the third try, Matt looked up and said "Oh... you're very quiet...." We were not off to a great start.
He then put me into the filthiest room I've ever stayed in in my life. Please see the attached photos. There were visible stains on everything that was fabric. The other surfaces all had stains that I was able to clean with a Clorox wipe which means the surface had simply not been wiped down. And there was a bangle or something left on the chair, which means it had not even been moved to clean the room... Yikes.
The room Matt put me in also faced the parking garage in the back of the hotel which was brightly lit the entire night. The hotel was nowhere near capacity (there were no events on the day that I was there) so he made a choice to give me a horrible night's sleep but I didn't want to complain because he'd already made me feel so uncomfortable.
I will say upon checkout there was a lovely woman who asked about my stay and I was honest with her and she seemed genuinely concerned so I hope the issues I mentioned were addressed.
To all those reading all the amazing reviews regarding the service and the rooms... we must've been staying in different hotels.
The Good:
Housekeeping was outstanding. Our room was immaculate and tidy. They did an excellent job throughout our stay. The elevators also worked flawlessly, which is surprisingly rare these days. The gentleman working at the front desk one evening was especially helpful when we decided to shorten our stay by one night. He handled the change quickly, efficiently, and without any hassle.
The Bad:
Check-in wasn't a great experience. We arrived around 1:00 p.m., as noted in the app, but our room wasn't ready. We went out for about two hours and returned, only to find it still wasn't available, even though guests who arrived after us were immediately given rooms.
The parking fees are also excessive. Nearly $50 per night to park in Milwaukee is hard to justify, so we chose to park elsewhere.
The breakfast area was the biggest disappointment. The floor in front of the buffet was sticky every morning during our three-night stay, making it seem as though it hadn't been properly cleaned. There were also more than ten small flies hovering around the bread station each day. While the food itself was fine, the cleanliness of the breakfast area left a poor impression and made the entire space feel less sanitary than it should have.
This is a wonderful location in downtown Milwaukee. We stayed for our son's wedding and had family from all over the country in and out of the hotel for the entire weekend! Sach the vallet was extraordinary! She was kind to everyone and help to each of my aunts, uncles, cousins, parents. Each time we saw her she had a smile on her face. Thank Sach!!
We had an awesome stay! ALL of the employee staff were super friendly and very helpful. The location was awesome! Many food venues nearby! If you like to walk you can walk almost everywhere and there was a free tram u can jump on as well. I went for summerfest and actually walked all the way there from the hotel. And on the walk there we stopped at the Harley Davidson and the Bobblehead Museum. I would mos def stay here again! And a special thanks to the janitorial staff and the front desk agent Ms NIAH who gave all types of good info on where to eat and what to do... Hospitality was an A+ .
Conveniently located to the highway & lakefront. Had a very nice breakfast, lots of fresh fruit.
Wish the ac unit in our room wasn’t so loud.
