Clean and proper
Wi-fi was not working for most of the time, when working was extremely slow. As i was there for 8 days for business, was a mess !!
I was staying with you last week and an object, an orange bag, disappeared from my room. I contacted the manager, and he didn't resolve it. As I had a flight, I needed to leave the hotel and they told me they would get in touch. What did not happen. How can we proceed with this? They were important objects and documents
Location is good for business trip. Easy access to nearby local food shop and convenience store.
Room carpet have some stain spot.
Surrounded by many small traditional restaurants, food shops, McDonald’s, pharmacy, 7/11.
Close to industrial area. Breakfast was okay. Some members were very friendly did a good service.
Bit weird hotel, quite dirty everywhere and they seem not to clean very well. The floor in the room was full of stains, quite ugly. Lift and hallways need cleaning and repair urgently. If possible I try to avoid this hotel.
I was here for work for a few weeks, and write this review based on my experiences in room 1620. I'll begin with the positive parts.
One of the best things about the room was the view, which included a spectacular moonrise, as well as multiple breathtaking sunrises.
I was also glad to have multiple dining options right next door, like a 30-second walk from the front entrance of the hotel. There were at least a half-dozen great choices, each with slightly different menus. I strongly recommend the noodle place on the lower level, as well as Lawson's convenience store.
The staff at the hotel was hard-working and friendly, although few spoke much English. However, all were adept at using phone translations to communicate, and were very receptive to finding ways to help.
The room itself was sufficient, with fresh water bottles each day, and full dispensers of shampoo and conditioner. And I appreciated the built-in clothesline in the shower, to dry lightweight laundry.
Although the room did not include an iron, there was one available for free use in the coin-operated laundry room on the ground level.
Breakfast was predictable and sufficient, including coffee and tea, cold vegetables for salad, pickled vegetables, two kinds of cold cereal, congee, multiple kinds of bao (including the custard kind, my favorite), as well as hard-boiled eggs, a green vegetable each day, purple potatoes, corn on the cob, rice, and pasta. Most days included a customized noodle soup option, but this was often not available until a little later (like 8).
There was much to appreciate about this hotel! But there were also a few factors that made the stay difficult overall.
First, the overpowering smell of cigarette smoke was so frustrating. It's a non-smoking hotel, but on multiple nights, the smell of fresh cigarette smoke was shockingly strong. Each time I complained, the front desk sent a security guard to sniff the air in my room, but no culprits were ever identified, and the bad air continued.
Second, the internet access was tremendously unreliable to the point it was not functional most evenings. This made it impossible to engage in necessary work in the evenings. Even the hard-wired computers in the hotel lobby did not have reliable internet. This is a serious issue to be addressed if we will continue to stay here.
Third, the carpeting in the rooms was pretty disgusting. My room's carpeting was heavily stained and worn, and the daily housekeeping service did not include vacuuming (evidenced by a peanut I accidentally dropped in an obvious location that remained in place for at least 6 days).
Finally, in spite of the restaurant choices right next door, the location is not great. It's not really walkable to anything of interest (aside from the university).
Overall, this was an okay but difficult stay, challenging for the reasons mentioned (primarily the cigarette smoke and the terrible internet connectivity). The highlight was the staff.
The hotel is good and the service was excellent. Only the location is far away from shanghai, still it depends on where you want to go. The subway is 10 min away from the hotel by taxi. But overall the stay was good.
Most people who stay here are here on business (so they have no choice). The beds were comfortable, rooms bright, breakfast buffet ok, the carpets are dirty and the fans circulate dirty air. There is a smell of construction dust/pollution in the rooms, and smoking from other rooms (which is not allowed) comes in through the vents in the bathrooms. Of the 12 of us who stayed for a couple of weeks, at least 4 developed respiratory problems. As a western chain, please do better, Holiday Inn Express! When I checked in the carpet outside the bathroom was soaked. I used a towel to sop it up, and it dried, but I’m sure mold is growing in these rooms. Also, the HI Exp website and google maps has this hotel in the wrong part of the Shanghai area; TripAdvisor is accurate. The hotel has a self-serve washer and dryer which was much appreciated. English is limited, but this is not a surprise in hotels like this in China. Patience is useful.staff are attentive, as much as they can be with limited understanding.
it was my worst experience ever - one had to contact them to arrange check in as they don't have reception (according to the website) - but they don't answer the phone so it was impossible to reach them and check in - and not money was refunded.
Good new hotel. Clean and nice. Breakfast need improvement
