We booked this hotel as it was close to my sister's house and the rate was good. I should have checked reviews before booking, but we had stayed at IHG hotels throughout our trip and had never had a bad experience. Our first impressions upon entering the lobby were mixed, but when we went to the elevator we were both hit by the smell of wet dog coming up from the carpet. We thought perhaps that was due to a combination of their pet policy and the swimming pool being used. Upon entry into our room, however, we were both hit by the overpowering smell of mold/mildrew/damp. It was SO bad my throat immediately tightened and became sore. My husband said there was no way he was dealing with that for one night, let alone two, and we immediately checked out. In looking at reviews after the fact, it is clear this is a management issue that is not being dealt with. I strongly advise anyone with mold/mildew allergies or anyone who is immuno-compromised to avoid this hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for 12 consecutive nights. My room smelled like mold. There are two (2) elevators in the hotel. I was told that one of the elevators has been out of service for a couple of years. During my stay, the second elevator broke down and was out of service for nearly a week. I contacted corporate and told them that the hotel should be ADA compliant and have the elevator repaired. Corporate told me that the hotel manager would contact me via email. (I never did hear from the hotel manager!). The indoor swimming pool looked dirty. Somebody contacted Johnson County Department of Health & Environment about the poorly-maintained swimming pool. An investigator from this department paid the hotel a visit. After testing the pool water, the investigator immediately shut down the pool (see photo). Also, there is no locking mechanism on the entry door to the pool area. (A curious child could easily gain access to the pool area!!!!!). The hotel fitness center smells like mold. And there are a couple broken windows in the hotel, including one in the breakfast area, approximately 18 inches off the floor (see photo). Due to these conditions, I will NEVER stay at this hotel ever again!
We are seniors with mobility disabilities. We were given a room the the 4th floor (top floor). Checked in and used the one working elevator to get to our room. Next morning, no working elevators now. We had to climb up and down 6 flights of stairs in a hot stair well. Not good for bad backs, hips, and knees. In our bathroom sink I had to run the hot water for 1 minute and 15 seconds on average to get it to start to turn warm. So much for a quick hand wash. The food in the breakfast area was very unappealing. Cinnamon rolls dry and hard on bottom, juice was warm, no ice. Nothing else looked good, did not try it. The chairs have lost their stuffing. The tv remote is very limited and inadequate for operating the tv. Cannot view a guide and difficult to change channels. Back to the elevator problem . On check out day I had to carry one piece of luggage (50 lb. suitcase) down all the flights of stairs on my shoulder. Quite a workout for a 70 yr old with joint problems. After speaking again to someone at the from desk, who turned out to be a manager, she operated the elevator for me in order to get the rest of the luggage and my wife downstairs. It was operational, but it shut down due to fire code violations. All in all, not a pleasant experience. The staff was pleasant.
Beautiful property in a safe, quiet location. Check-in was efficient and the staff member friendly and inviting. The room was very clean. Bed was excellent! Location is set in an exquisitely kept community where miles of walking tracks exist if you want to get out and explore a bit.
Nice when it comes to breakfast and it's a lot to do within the hotel itself.
The Wi-Fi signal and the Wi-Fi itself was terrible one of the worst had to deal with.
The air conditioner was the best I've had.
The shower floor was soft right where you had to stand and literally moved up and down atleast and inch the whole time, the water was luke warm at best. And the housekeeping were beating on the door at 8:15 am until we would answer and then just walked off.
Todo súper limpio, el personal muy amable.
Nos ayudaron con todo.
Todo estuvo bien.
La limpieza del lugar y la cama es gigante y muy cómoda.
No tenía mucha variedad en el desayuno. Pero fuera de eso estaba bien
Probably the worst HIE property I've ever stayed at:
- The rooms were approximately 99% humidity. As evidenced by a piece of paper going from normal consistency to feeling like it had been dipped in water overnight.
- Milk was served at breakfast one morning that was 3-4 days past expiration. Not just one carton, multiple. (Yes, I made the staff aware, and they were able to replace them with non-expired cartons)
- On multiple days of our stay, the cinnamon roll trays were replaced with COMPLETELY FROZEN cinnamon rolls. C'mon - the best reason to stay at HIE and you screwed it up.
- Bugs. Bugs. Bugs. Bugs in the entryway when we arrived - they were swept out after they died, but new ones kept returning the entire stay. Also, bugs in our room on occasion. Not the entire time, so is that a positive?
- The bathroom door was not mounted properly, so it did not latch.
- The shower was not installed correctly, so if you turned the faucet to get more warmth in your water, it would not continue running. Even when it did run (colder than you wanted) it barely came out. Next to zero water pressure.
- Minor bummer, not a big deal, but the free weights had an interesting selection. They had two 5-lb dumb bells and then nothing until 35-pounders. 35,40,45 lbs wer available - odd selection for a hotel workout facility.
- The elevator did not work for a few days - I listed that last because at least they forewarned us upon arrival, kept us posted, and apologized for the inconvenience.
