Haymarket Apartments

The main door into the building was very confusing to open along with the door to the apartment.

Unfortunately, we got locked out of the bathroom as the doorknob only works from inside so when the door is shut it is difficult to open from outside. Then there wasn’t any hot water for the duration of our stay owing to a faulty boiler. However, to be fair to the establishment, we were offered a partial refund by way of compensation which was appreciated.

There was no hot water for the duration of our stay. We can deal with cold showers for a couple of days so put up with that and to be fair to the management, they gave us a partial refund. On reflection I think we were rather more accommodating than most people might be in this situation and could have kicked up an almighty fuss. We didn't really have time for all that as we had to go to a wedding and other various engagements.

The real clincher came later. On the second morning my wife woke up covered in bites which have caused her significant discomfort since. She found a bedbug in the sheets (see photo). We alerted the management immediately as this is obviously quite a serious matter which needs sorting. 4 days later we have not received any response from the management regarding this situation. As far as I can tell, apartment bookings since our stay are still being honoured, which is surely a breach of the most basic hygiene requirements.

The impact is not insignificant. In order to ensure we don't import the problem to our own house, we have had to have lots of items dry cleaned and extra efforts made with other things. Not to mention the extremely unpleasant reaction to the bites.

You will note there are other reviews, which I wish I had read before, along the same lines.

I will be pursuing the management company for a full refund and reimbursement of related costs, at the very least.

Purtroppo penso ci sia stato un guasto alla caldaia e non abbiamo avuto acqua calda l’ultimo giorno, non proprio il massimo con le basse temperature che hanno in Scozia.

Prima di tutto abbiamo prenotato l'appartamento per 4 persone, ma una volta arrivati ci siamo resi conto che l'appartamento aveva solamente un letto ad una piazza e mezza e un altro divano letto per una persona, quindi effettivamente mancava un posto letto. Questo non era scritto chiaramente su booking e nessuno ci ha informato di questo dettaglio che ha comunque comportato un disagio abbastanza importante costringendoci a dormire su un letto ad una piazza in due per tutta la durata della vacanza. Abbiamo chiesto di poter cambiare stanza o comunque se ci fosse un materassino o una qualsiasi soluzione ma non abbiamo ricevuto nessuna soluzione alternativa.
Inoltre dopo il primo giorno l'acqua calda ha smesso di funzionare. In una città fredda come Edimburgo avere accesso all'acqua calda direi possa ritenersi un servizio essenziale. Anche qui, abbiamo contattato tempestivamente lo staff per capire se ci fosse una soluzione, ma anche in questo caso ci hanno detto di essere informati del problema e che qualcuno se ne stava occupando (in ogni caso nessuna soluzione e doccia fredda per i restanti due giorni).

Dopo tutto questo mi aspettavo almeno un parziale rimborso considerando i disagi subiti. Abbiamo ricevuto qualche attenzione in merito? No.

The heating in the bathroom was on high and it took us a couple of days to get it to switch off. This meant our sleep was a little uncomfortable due to the heat on a hot May weekend.
