Quick stay in Montañita
Pros:

The location was great, walking distance to main downtown area but far enough to have some peace. The rooms were comfortable although i think a bit overpriced for what you get and compared to other places.
I have very little problems with hotels except when they advertise AC and you pay a little bit of a premium in south america to have a room with an AC versus a room with a fan. Unfortunately the AC in our room didnt work it was more of a fan pushing around air. And when we brought this up to our attention the staff did try to provide us with another room. However the AC did not work in the second room as well. We told them everything was fine when we left just so we can get out of there. but truth is it was hot and the advertising is false on the hotels.com page. they should fix all the units unless they intentionally keep the cooling options disabled to save power which is not unheard of in south america. There was one room that they showed us that had AC but yet they gave it to friends who had shown up last minute without reservations. So we were a bit upset that we reserved in advance a room with ac and they didn't seem to care about us. We are very humble people so we dont really show our frustrations in person too much in situations like this. but i feel it is important for others to know honestly what happend before booking.
That being said if you dont care about AC this hotel is very nice other wise. Great set up large rooms, hot water showers, great views.

Close to town and beach and cheap
Pros:

This is a nice cheap hotel with a great view. If you're looking for luxury, this isn't it, but it's a nice quiet pleasant place to just veg.

La punta Montañita
Pros:

The position of the hotel is very nice, sea view from the room and great social areas. The jacuzzi tub was not cleaned even after we asked if it was possible to use it, and there are a lot of bugs (but the hotel is in a country environment, so is not unusual to have bugs around!).
The room and particularly the bathroom could have been more clean.
