Excellent value! Great location, very comfortable and convenient. We loved the spacious, well-equipped room and the patio. Lovely breakfast.
I stayed at the Best Western Angel Hotel in Chippingham on the 27th of June for one night. Upon arrival, a staff member was helpful in giving us initial directions, but her instructions were a bit confusing, and she didn’t smile much, which made it awkward to ask for clarification. After parking, we had to wheel our suitcases about 20-30 yards through the garden area to reception and once inside, there were a couple of steps, so we had to lift them then all the way back then to our room. The room was on the ground floor and, while okay, it was quite dated. The windows could open wide with no safety locks, so we felt a bit unsafe. There was no air conditioning, just a fan which made a clicking noise when it turned, so at night we had to keep the fan locked on still (no rotating) it was a very hot day. In the morning, after I showered, my cousin was mid-shower when the water pressure dropped completely—she couldn’t rinse out her conditioner. Overall, it was a bit of a letdown, especially given the heat and basic safety expectations.
Location and facilities
Expensive @ £179
The location in the centre of Chippenham and the courtyard garden. As there was a heatwave at the time of our stay, there was a nice touch of free water made available to passersby. The Receptionist (Sherri) was exceptional in the face of a difficult morning.
I had expected a characterful propery based on the photo's on Booking.com. Instead, our room was in a seperate building overlooking the car park which could have been any bland corporate hotel room anywhere. The windows were not clean and the window frames were in serious need of maintenance. In addition, it was stifling hot (see above comments re heatwave) and although a fan had been provided, for this price I would have expected airconditioning. On our final morning there was a problem with the water supply meaning we could not shower or use the bathroom at all (for which a 20% refund was given on one night of our stay). Breakfast was a very average buffet, the dining room boring and gloomy with unwashed windows.
The staff were nice, the room was clean and on ground floor for my disabled husband.
For a disabled room the wet room was ok but you had small low chairs in the room my husband had to sit in his wheelchair for 2 nights. Not acceptable. You need a tall chair with arms to help people who struggle to get up and sit down.
Everything
Nothing
The lower floor and gardens are well thought out and an attractive area.
Rooms in the older section of the hotel are dated and have poor ventilation.
Take care you register your car! This place is in need of an overhaul, not just the building but the management too.
Staff are only as good as their training. Not to be blamed for their inability to do their jobs, as they are not trained. Shame on you management.
The restaurant was near empty in a town that was rammed. Every other restaurant was booked out.
Make sure you take all your belongings. Within a half hour of check out, forgotten items in a drawer had gone missing!
Great staff , friendly and meal was very nice

Good location. Helpful reception staff.
Easy parking.
Swimming pool.
We were put in the old building, 2nd floor up, but when we entered the room, it was small, cramped, smelt and we couldn't even open the window....bearing in mind it was 34 degrees and we had a dog. She panted as soon as we walked in. I asked to change and was given a ground floor room in the new part of the building. This was much bigger and cooler, and had a fan....a godsend! The receptionist was great ang helpful. Room 105 was very noisey though. Next to the main door and another main door to the other block! Both spring back!! Just a warning.
Excellent location, comfortable big room, helpful staff, good breakfast
Nothing. in the middle of an exceptional heatwave would have loved aircon, but they did provide a fan
Awesome location. Literally is THE CENTER of the town. The car park was very good value for money at only £7.50 for 24 hours. Room was ok. It's a three star hotel that is also trying to be a restaurant, pub and community hub by the looks of things. Overall, chippenham isn't well served for hotels - so this is probably about what you'd expect. Not amazing but not terrible either.
The room was in a separate side building, had to walk through a beer garden to get to it - bit weird but, not terrible. It could have used a bit of a repaint and new windows. Bit tired and old fashioned. Holes in skirting boards, marks on the door. Wish it had a fridge. The lack of aircon was brutal though. There was a good fan, which I was glad of because it was 25 degrees when we stayed - but any hotter than this and I can tell it'd get uncomfortable at night. Bit pricey for what it was - but it was the last room available and there was a folk festival event on which I think jacked the price a bit.
