Lovely hotel with wonderful rooms. Some great sea views, attention to detail with decor.
If we were being really picky the bathroom would benefit from under floor heating but as I said this is a luxury.
Very reasonable room rates too.
The staff were fantastic, very accommodating and helpful. They arranged for a birthday cake to be left in the room for the birthday guest. They organised taxis for our guests and sorted a minor issue with parking.
Breakfast is very good, eggs cooked to order and lots of choice.
Stunning hotel would highly recommend great location staff fantastic recently renovated to high standerd will definitely being coming back
Great hotel for a visit to Folkestone. Located right on sea front but close to town centre. Very friendly staff. We booked a dog friendly room and we were pleasantly surprised to find dog bowls and a bed. Good move. The hotel decor looked like it was recently modernised and our bathroom was super. We had breakfast there, fabulous choice, delicious food and great service. There was also a smart restaurant but we ate out to meet friends. We would return there on our next visit.
Beware the many staircases and lifts! Easy to get disoriented whilst moving between floors.
Had a brilliant stay here with friends. Hotel is situated in a lovely position overlooking the sea and a short walk to town. Room was lovely, spotlessly clean, with lovely bedding and towels. Good hospitality tray and toiletries. Excellent food and drink in the restaurant. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. Such a lovely atmosphere throughout.
The hotel looked like it had been recently redecorated and it was beautiful. Everything was clean and modern. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They went out of their way to give us advice on a couple of questions we asked. We had a sea view and even though the weather was bad, the view was brilliant.
It’s a good location for seafront, shops and restaurants.
The breakfast was very good quality, local produce and plenty of choice. The restaurant manager was a great character and we had great service.
The bar area was cosy.
I will definitely be going back. It would be great for families too.
Yes I'll go again.
Marco Pierre White restaurant, got to give top marks, lovely venue and good service and exceptional lunch.
We spent a very happy luxurious and indulgent Christmas at the Voco for three nights from Christmas Eve in the Queen Suite and could not have hoped for more. A beautiful hotel and room, delightful food both in the restaurant and bar.
Busy, busy, busy but an outstanding commitment and effort from a great team. Attentive, professional and responsive throughout.
A special call out for Sam in the bar. Nothing was too much trouble. Calm, efficient and a great job ensuring everyone was taken care of.
As Diamond Elite we know our IHG Hotels and this hotel excels.
We where at the VOCO Clifton Hotel Folkestone for 3 day Christmas break plus 3 additional days.
The hotel after its refurbishment is something to behold.
The staff go out of their way to make your stay everything you wanted.
Despite the utility problems on Christmas Day lunch the staff worked exceptionally hard to look after all guests, the food was everything you would expect of a Christmas Lunch. All guests who had the patience to recognise the Hotel had a problem, not of their making, were served the food they had ordered.
My wife said it was the best Christmas lunch she had had.
All the staff without exception are very attentive to guests, the Hotel is very clean and comfortable. It is at 5 star standard.
As are the Staff.
We would recommend the VOCO Clifton Hotel to any one.
To sum up - simply the best.
We like VOCO group and that was the reason we chose Clifton VOCO for our Christmas get away. No luck this time however. Disaster in the shape of blackout struck twice during our two days stay. Yes, these things happen, but what should not happen is behaviour of the personal. After 2 hours drive we checked in and were told to wait in a cold reception area for the manager to take us to our room as room keys were not operational due to blackout. After some time we had to remind we were still waiting. At least the receptionist had the presence of mind to change our room so we could use the one lift which was still working and took us to the room. Could we have been offered a cup of tea whilst waiting in these stressful circumstances? Fortunately the black out lasted for about an hour.
The worst was yet to come. After having an evening meal in a beautiful Function room we came back in our room before 9 pm to catch up with the day's news and... alas, another blackout. This one lasted till 11.30 pm. Nobody could advise for how long the blackout would last. But at least JN OUR REQUEST we were given some battery operated tiny table lamps.
Function room. We arrived at 6 pm as advised and were one of the first. On our request to locate us on a different table we got categorical - NO. And we were the last to get our starters - some confusion about table numbers - that was an explanation... My husband ordered a sweet sherry for me and it was only when he paid for the drink we noticed I had been given a Cherry Herring Liqueur instead. Same price but surely the staff should know the difference.
The one redeeming feature of the meal was the excellent entertainment by the musician who had a huge repertoire played in an easy and relaxing style.
The staff of the hotel definitely was under stress from quests' complaints and in panic, nobody knew what to do, though they could have organized people affected to come to Function room for a cup of tea - by that time it was half empty and even the pianist was still there. Yes, it is all about the staff, unfortunately. On Boxing day the receptionist knew nothing about famous Boxing day Swim - had to find information in a computer, and was very slow to print a map for us which we had asked the evening before.
Anyway, disasters happen, but should some form of special training be given to not very experienced members.
The compensation offered goes a long way to soften the blow and is appreciated.
We booked a Christmas package deal, it was brilliant. We couldn’t fault anything during our stay, location ideal, room spotless, food delicious and the staff were excellent. Would definitely stay again.
We had a family Christmas lunch which was excellent in quality and value and was well received by all the family. My wife and I have had several bar meals before a show at the Leas Cliff Hall and again all excellent. We are also booked to stay on New Year eve.
We had our Christmas party at The Clifton last weekend, in the newly refurbished function room and bar. Lovely welcome drink in the bar 🍸 then through to dinner, service exceeded my expectations and our group of 30 were looked after very well. The food was delicious, turkey dinners and steaks. The tables were very festive we all had a very merry time.
Thanks
My husband and I have just spent 3 wonderful days at this hotel. Our room was large and had a sea view, which we didn’t expect! the bed was comfy and the pillows were the best I have slept on! The breakfast was incredible, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, and a full English breakfast if you wanted it, everything was hot and fresh. All the staff were very helpful and always had a smile. This review does not do the hotel justice, it is without doubt the best we have stayed in.
Was really looking forward to this.
First of all I could not get in. I use a walking stick as I have bad knees. The steps into the Hotel were large and steep. Had to use the ramp which was steeper than Everest. Good job I had friends with me.
Then we were in a nice enough room but a bit cold. Good to see a lot if effort was put in to see we all got the correct meals.
The food was actually delicious but it was served on cold plates so went cold quickly. Hot gravy came when meal was finished. Long wait between courses.
The waitresses were pleasant and efficient but needed 1 more to cope with our party.
We knew tea/coffee wa extra but no-one came round to ask for our order
Will not be back in a hurry
This hotel is in a repurposed Victorian building that is very stylish. The room we were in was large with lots of hot water. We had a view that extended to France! The breakfast was exceptional with many choices. Overall the staff were very pleasant and the hotel has a small but efficient lift. Paid parking is out the front of the hotel. Highly recommended.
Wow what an extraordinary five star experience at this hotel.
My wife and I have been visiting Folkestone UK for over 24 years.
We've stayed at various properties including a penthouse at the grand.
Absolutely nothing compares to VOCO The Clifton Hotel. The owners have invested a lot of £ to upgrade this hotel. It worked. What a fabulous five star hotel they have created, absolutely nothing in Folkestone Dover or Maidstone comes even close. You'd have to go to London to find an IHG hotel that's remotely comparable.
From the senior management ( who are hands on ) to the staff they are polite, professional , welcoming and no issue is ever a problem. We stayed 16 days in their queen suite, believe me after 60 years in hospitality at a senior level if there was an issue we would have moved.
If you can get a reservation take it , I guarantee this hotel will become extremely popular.
For the price and location I was actually expecting a bit of a tired hotel. But my word from the moment you come in to the lovely Christmas tree and decorations you can tell that this must have had a very recent refurb. It’s all so gorgeous. The location is top. The breakfast excellent. The room lovely. Water in fridge. Good coffee in rooms. I’m definitely coming back. In no time this will be up to a 4-5 star on TripAdvisor. Which is what it deserves.
We stayed for two nights in the voco Clifton hotel in Folkestone, and the hotel is really lovely. Our bedroom and bathroom were stunning, very clean. We had an evening meal in the restaurant, and it was delicious, and the waitress, Leisa I think, was very nice.
I knocked one star off my review due to the staff in the restaurant in the mornings at breakfast. Crikey, they are not friendly or welcoming at all, and I even saw a waitress clearly roll her eyes impatiently.
The male receptionist on Friday evening (17th) was pleasant. The female receptionist this morning (Sunday 19th) just did her job.
The bedroom, cleanliness, meals, location, are excellent.
An elegant hotel just an easy stroll away from the town centre. Breakfasts were superb with some tasty extras you don't find in other hotels, such as smoothies. Hospitality veteran Tony manages the restaurant really efficiently. My room had a scenic sea view and one individual touch I appreciated was the supply of Taylors of Harrogate coffee bags, which make a much nicer cuppa than most hotel room coffee sachets usually available. The outdoor dining area is a glorious sun trap and a decent bar snacks menu is available. Parking permits are available for guests, though a bit pricey.
Staff were polite and welcoming. Unfortunately our room was double booked due to a large party, I paid for a premium king but was downgraded. Breakfast was offered as compensation, which we accepted because we were not told until we arrived to check in and it was very busy so we didn’t kick up a fuss.
I do feel we were at a loss, as it was very overpriced for an average buffet and we wouldn’t have chosen this.
Hotel was clean, bar was stocked.
