Great staff, especially Nicola. Nothing was too much trouble.
Food was amazing , quality and lots of it.
Best breakfast we've had at any BW hotels.
Room was 103, a large twin, with large bathroom. Comfy beds.
Ease to park and great position for the town.
I was very disappointed with my recent experience at The George Hotel. I had just arrived in the car park, and was waiting for my wife to meet me, and then a member of staff came up to my car… He told me that if I wasn’t planning on going into the hotel he would clamp my car (I was however going to have a coffee here). He had an awful attitude and made me feel very unwelcome by not seeking to understand why I was waiting. After telling him I would not be returning for our usual Sunday Lunch, he told me he didn’t care as he did not work Sundays. Me and my wife often go to this hotel for Sunday lunch, however after the disgusting attitude I received, I will not be returning.
I can understand that the hotel staff must be frustrated with people parking without using hotel facilities, however, being approached in such an awful manner and being spoken to so horribly is not how to treat customers (especially regulars).
This is not the first time staff members have had poor attitudes, but this has been the worst by far.
Location was good to go to Norwich, rooms were spotless. Food exceptional. Staff very helpful and friendly. Friendly atmosphere in all the bars
2 night stay with a dog, in a hotel that should be described as dog tolerant rather than dog friendly. Reception not particularly attentive and don't dare ask for a 2nd key ... you get one, so make sure you don't accidentally lock your husband out of the room ... though great excuse if you want to! 😜
Room and bathroom were grubby and had evidently had several DIY bodges. Paying full room rate plus a supplement for "extra cleaning" is a bit rich to get a room that in places looks like the wallpaper has been attacked by a chihuahua and a bathroom that looks like a guard dog has been trapped in it!
Dogs not welcome in bar area. Fair enough, not everyone likes dogs. However, if diners fill the area where dogs are allowed, then this basically leaves you confined to your room with a few bottles from the local off licence. Whilst that might be better value for money, given state of the room, it hardly makes for a romantic/relaxing evening.
Whilst policy states you are not permitted to leave your dog alone in a room, staff seem to think this is ok for breakfast or bar service. It might explain the state of our room, if dogs have been left alone.
On the plus side, the bar and dining area is far better maintained than the room. Breakfast was good and service was attentive... it was Monday morning though and not busy at all.
Swaffham is a great little town, with some good walking but sadly I won't be staying here again
My wife and I have never walked out. We did this time and found an alternative. Not good. The whole thing needs redoing. If it was 50 quid a night, it would be understandable, but a complete rip off for an outdated hotel.
My room was lovely and big but very cold! The weather had been awful all day with torrential rain and there was no heating in my room. I stayed in room 107. The warmest place was the little corridor where there were a couple of heating pipes giving out heat, and the towel rail in the bathroom. I toyed with the idea of sleeping in there! The waste bin in the room had not been emptied, and there was an empty carton of milk beside it. The sheet and mattress protector hadn't been pulled fully up to the top of the mattress, leaving it slightly exposed. I was disappointed, I expected more from Best Western as I've been using them for a number of years and out in the US as well.
General condition of the whole hotel was very poor, moldy bathroom.
Booked through hotels.com
On check in we asked if we could get a drink however told the bar was closed. We were given a registration form which I completed but forgot to sign, the older lady rather rudely reminded me and then handed me the key with directions to the room. After wandering around for a while I realised the room number on the key was the other side of the hotel which we eventually found. After unpacking and making a drink she phoned our room and said we were in the wrong one, apologised and asked us to move promising my husband ( who she seemed to be more polite to) a drink when the bar opened. We packed and vacated to the new room however the smell of drains from the bathroom was unbearable. My husband went down to reception and we were eventually given the room opposite. After repacking for the second time we moved, we had just got unpacked when she knocked on the door demanding the old key so she could look to see what she needed to do and see the problem. She was more bothered what housekeeping needed to do as we had been in 2 rooms now. She then retracted the offer of a drink as we’d requested to move. The rooms were very dated, the standard of cleanliness was questionable and the bedsheets had marks on, the quilt was lumpy, however we accepted the room and stayed. The lady at the reception was unwelcoming, rude and definitely spoke more politely to my husband than myself. All if the staff we interacted with were unfriendly, breakfast,I will be generous and say just edible.
Two nights to enable us to attend a concert at Sandringham. Room was large but floors all creak alarmingly.
Staff and food good. Rooms tired
Staff and food good. Room tided
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while attending a concert at Sandringhan house, property was easy to find and had ample parking.
Check-in was very straight forward, and receptionist very friendly and welcoming, room was very clean and cosy, and had all of the amenities required, and expected.
Had a meal in the restaurant and food was excellent, as was breakfast in the mornings, and service was excellent, again all staff very friendly and welcoming.
All in all, hotel is a great place to stay, some of the previous reviews state that the hotel is a little tired, but then again it is a 13th century property, so what would you expect!!?.
My wife also left a personal item in the room when we left, contacted the hotel when we arrived home, and they located it, and posted it back to us.
All in all we enjoyed our stay, and wouldn't hesitate in returning, and thank you to all of the staff that looked after us.
Absolutely awful stay, I could hear every word people were saying in the corridor outside my room. The smoking area was outside my window so all I could smell was people’s cigarette smoke all night. There was blood stains on my sheets, broken edges in the bathroom, dirty shower curtain, holes in the bath, toilet roll holder was above the toilet so hard to reach while sitting in the toilet. Trip hazard step into bathroom so stubbed my foot several times. Disabled parking bay was a tiny space next to the smoking are with a wooden post so you couldn’t open the door wide enough. Pillows were flat as paper, kettle full of lime scale and springs in bed popping out. Towels had brown stains on them absolute awful nights sleep due to noise levels of people talking loudly outside window smoking constant slamming of door to reception outside my room. The only good part of the room was Netflix on tv and the blackout blinds everything else was very badly in need of update or good clean. Poorly finished off workmanship from whoever the handyman was with sockets on their sides and bad finishing
We just stayed for one night. Our room was clean but dated. The beds had seen better days. Breakfast was fairly awful. Burnt bacon, poor selection of fruit and pastries and a fruit salad that had seen better days. Solid scrambled egg and muffins that you couldn’t cut into.
We had dinner and that was absolutely delicious.
In spite of the breakfast and the dated room we enjoyed our stay. It would have been nice to have a ground floor room with a shower rather than a shower over a bath which ( for me) is inaccessible .
Was a pleasant stay, decor a bit dated but all in all, satisfied as priced reasonable
Rooms very dated and tired
Double bed was huge
Free car parking
Night staff person was somewhat rude and abrupt. Room was ok but very tired and outdated.
Amazing room. Hotel facilitated a late check in.
This hotel badly needs a thorough refurbishment. I would describe the standard of decoration and workmanship as poor DIY.
The room and the bathroom was substandard in my view. We stayed in the old part of the hotel complete with sloping floor and squeaky floor boards. There was a heatwave during our stay which made the room almost uninhabitable with heat and humidity due to the lack of natural ventilation. The room had three double hung sash windows. The middle window was fixed in the closed position, the other two only the bottom sash could be opened and this with some difficulty. There is side-hung secondary glazing which can only open a few inches because it clashes with the curtains. Two fans were provided which helped but air conditioning is badly needed.
Having said all that the staff were excellent, sadly the hotel was not up to their high standard.
