Pros:

Beautiful views and attentive staff. The rooms were clean and hot water reasonably available. Although this wasn't a huge surprise, we did all get gastroenteritis from eating at the restaurant at different times during the week. They were often out of food options as well, though there was a big conference going on, so this may have been the reason. This resort is also somewhat overpriced for the amenities and area.

Pros:

Beautiful grounds with many lovely flowers and right on the beautiful Lake Tana. Food is very good, including the breakfast buffet. Some of the rooms have older plumbing, but overall great hotel for the location. Hot water and semi-reliable Wifi.

Pros:

Did not get a room with lake view though I made the most expensive booking. Staff handling it was a bit impatient and rude. After some argument/persuasion was changed to new room with l/view.

Pros:

The property location is fantastic located by the lake with incredible views of the lake. The staff at the reception were very helpful and professional.

However the twin room we got was so small with very small single beds and hardly any room to move around for 2 people. The shower water was scalding hot and it took us 2 days to figure out how to moderate it. Also no WiFi in the rooms and very spotty throughout the hotel. Food also below average.

Pros:

The hotel was maintained at the level of a mid-range hotel you would find in the US. The staff was very friendly and wanted to help as much as possible, but appeared to lack significant hospitality management experience, and were fairly reactive as opposed to proactive. The food was pretty good, and the views were great (if you could find a clean window to look out). There are a couple of newer hotels in the area, which I heard were nice (but same management challenges). There are also some more cultural hotels which were quite nice...HOWEVER, for the price you pay for Blue Nile, it is certainly worth considering in options if you are staying in that area.

Not worth twice the price
Pros:

Clean yet dated hotel in a nice peaceful location on Lake Tana, but that’s where the 4 star experience ends. Definitely not worth twice the price of the other hotels in the area. Reception staff were rude, unhelpful and wouldn’t help with organising tours outside of those affiliated to the hotel, which were 4 times the price to those elsewhere. The WiFi was intermittent and essentially unusable and the TV didn’t work. We ended up spending our time at Kuriftu Resort which if they had rooms we would have stayed at.

Pros:

This is a beautiful lakeside resort in Bahir Dar. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and modern. Rooms had air conditioning and warm water for showers. Food was pretty good, distinctly Ethiopian.

Pros:

Location is everything and it has a great location right on Lake Tana. But the rooms are tired, worn out carpeting, no hot water for showers in the morning. Breakfast buffet was poor at best. On the bright side, the dinner was very good selection and tasty! For this price point,it was a disappointing stay.

Very comfortable and roomy bedroom with supeof lak
Pros:

Excellent hotel overlooking lake Tana. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Food varied local and international. Sitting areas well appointed and beautiful gardens. Can take boat trips to local islands to see churches and history of battles between Ethiopian armies and colonial powers.

Hasn’t been updated in a while but good service
Pros:

The Avanti Blue Nile looks beautiful from the outside. The grounds are gorgeous and kept nicely. However, there are several reasons this is not a 4-star hotel:
- the rooms have not been updated in decades and are small, cramped, dark and dingy
- the beds are uncomfortable
- the WiFi is poor because it is mostly open and they let people from town come use the Internet
- there is no fitness center

Pros:

Very nice hotel, nice staff, clean room, just no flat sheet on the bed. That was the only thing I didn't like. Other than that everything was really nice

Visiting Ethiopia and Its cultural cities
Pros:

This hotel is nicely situated near downtown Dahir Bar and facing Lake Tana. So it is a great place to do excursions on lake Tana to visit the monasteries situated around the lake and on the islands in the lake. The hotel although modern, looks a bit old fashioned and being almost empty (as the state of emergency reduced the tourism) we felt kind of alone in this big resort. But overall staff s friendly and helpful to organize tours and activities.

Pros:

Excellent service, food both international and local very good . Lovely views of lake Tana from bedroom and all balconies and dining room.very central to restaurant in pretty garden that was cheaper than hotel serving fresh fish.highly recommended would certainly stay again .we were moved into larger room with sitting area when extra bed for child would not fit into twin bedded room at no extra cost.

It lived up to previous reviews.
Pros:

When I first arrived, I was placed in the older section of the building, with twin beds and a rickety mattress. When I learned that my colleague had a better room, I was able to transfer. The staff was very accommodating. I enjoyed my experience very much. The queen bed was comfortable and the views of the lake from my window were spectacular. The complimentary breakfast each morning was delicious, although the breads were a little dry.

Bahar Dar Visit
Pros:

Nice hotel, nice staff, good location. However, the room I was given wasn't the one I booked. Should've had a "furnished balcony" but the (small) room had no balcony at all. I asked at reception and they said those rooms had all gone (so why was my booking accepted?). The best they could do was move me to the room below, which had a small outside space. For Ethiopia in general, if you're booking a room for a specific reason (e.g. view, balcony, jacuzzi) then my advice would be to email the hotel after you've booked it and confirm they've got the room you're expecting, but even that may not work. I found all hotels I stayed at outside Addis had very nice reception, bar, restaurant, garden areas but when you get to your room it's small or it's not what you were expecting or the premium TV channels aren't available or the wi-fi doesn't work. There will be something wrong.

Blue Nile resort
Pros:

A friend and I stayed at the blue Nile resort hotel, which has a stunning setting and views on the waters edge of lake Tana. It was a perfect spot to start our tour of lake Tana and Islands. The staff were helpful and it the buffet breakfast had a good selection. However the twin room was very small which had not been apparent in the photos online as I had thought it was a twin room with double beds not singles and there was no hot water.

Nice hotel just by the lake
Pros:

Communication before arrival is non existent eventhough we emailed the hotel few times. Be careful to book boat trip as the local guides with rediculous price and very pushy operating from the hotel. We thought we were booking through the hotel but obviously not which is very disappointing as we have clearly asked the front desk to help us on the spot. We were not sure if
