Ocho Artisan Bungalows

Garden, where the bungalows are, is beautiful. Bungalows are spacious and very comfortable. Access to the beach. Staff were great. Sunsets in front of the hotel’s beach are breathtaking.

The location is amazing, right on the beach. The water was wonderfully refreshing warm. The staff were friendly and helpful. Else and Sue Ellen were great hosts and all of the bartenders and servers made sure to know our names. The bungalows are beautiful, clean and private. We highly recommend Ocho Artisan for anyone traveling to Costa Rica. Also, the town is a quick walk and you can explore and shop. Bonus wildlife visits while on the beach.

Loved that it was right on the beach. Individual bungalows mean quiet neighbors. All the staff were great but especially Ilse and Sue were super attentive, checked in with us every day to make sure we were having a wonderful time.

Ocho Bungalos was very comfortable and accommodating with very attentive and friendly staff. The beach was very accessible and the water was a delightful temperature. The small community offered a surprising number of excellent restaurant choices and was very walkable.

The beach club vibe was cool.

Ilse, Sue Ellen, Naomey, Kenya, Vladamir…and the rest of the staff are amazing…then on top of that the Bungalows themselves were fabulous…and the food at the beach club was outstanding!! The beach club itself and the sunbeds were a highlight. The location was perfect for a walk into town to visit the shops…and the food truck park nearby was great too!!

We had one of the pool side bungalows and the location was perfect. The bungalow was very spacious and comfortable with lots of character. The gardens were beautifully maintained and the service provided by all the staff and particularly Ilse the concierge was excellent.

Great location directly on the beach with day beds. Beautiful, refreshing and quiet pool. Good food and drinks. The rooms have unique and comfortable design and outdoor showers. Very friendly and attentive staff. Thank you Ilse, Sue and team.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. After booking a week at Ocho Artisan Bungalows, and planning what was supposed to be a trip of a lifetime, we traveled all day and arrived there at about 6 PM on Dec. 20, 2025
We did a little unpacking and decided we needed to get something to eat. We left the resort and were gone about 20 minutes. We had packed our ring security camera and set it up before leaving our room. It was directed solely on the room safe. We were gone approximately 20 minutes and were at the resort less than one hour when the security camera sent us a notice that someone was in our room. We were only about two blocks away, so I went running back trying to catch whoever was in our room but was too late. The front door was locked and there were no signs of forced entry. Obviously the employee had a key.
After reviewing the recorded video, in which the thief looked directly at the camera, with the property manager Ilse, she called the police and the intruder was caught with the money. He was/is an employee. Upon our arrival we were given a key to the safe and were told that the electronics didnt work, but that is obviously not the case, as the thief punched in a code to open it. He didn’t steal all of our money, (Approx$300) ,hoping that we didn’t notice.
Obviously, we could not stay there having been completely violated. We made arrangements to move to another resort where we spent the week. It took us about four hours the next morning to get a refund. And it wasn’t a full refund. They kept $350 and blamed it on PayPal. We did spend one night there because it was late by the time everything got done and settled, and there was nowhere to go that night. They did give us a free dinner and a free breakfast, however the process to get a refund was argumentative and tiresome. We feel that based on the circumstances, they should have refunded all of our money.
No doubt the owner will respond and say they did everything they could and that they did fire the guy supposedly. However he has worked there three (3) years, so I am sure this is not the first time this has happened hoping that people don’t realize that they’re taking small amounts of money here and there from your safe. He did have some of the money on him when apprehended and we did get some of the money back.
BE VERY CAREFUL if you choose to stay here. There is an ATM right across the street and I would suggest taking out small amounts of money every day in lieu of putting anything in the safe. We were deterred from prosecuting him because we would’ve had to spend a full day in Santa Cruz (one hour hour away) leaving the following morning at 6:00am as we were told the only only appointment available with the prosecutor would’ve been at 8 o’clock on Sunday morning. We feel this was a complete lie. So while we were told he spent the night in jail, he will end up going free, as we didn’t want to spend our first day dealing with this on vacation. The whole process was quite traumatic to start our vacation.

The amazing staff and the property, the location at the beach

My Husband and I have stayed at the Ocho 4 times and it absolutely never disappoints. The Bungalows are so cool and the property is an oasis on the edge of town. The staff makes us feel like family. Ilsa, Kenya, Geo, Zula and the entire staff are so good to us. Can't wait to return.
