Categories

Cleanliness
9.8
Multiple reviewers described rooms as 'spacious and clean' and 'big and airy' — overall very good housekeeping and room cleanliness.
Service
8
Staff described as friendly when present, but service is limited (no staff after 5pm, housekeeping on request, self-entry key boxes) leading to inconsistent guest contact.
Location
10
Repeatedly praised: great location, lovely views over the Solent, convenient for town (20 min walk) and sunsets — a standout positive.
Room Quality
8.7
Rooms are generally comfortable and airy with good beds in some cases, but issues noted (stuffy/hot rooms, ineffective ceiling fan, one TV with no channels, variable views for downstairs rooms).
Amenities
7.5
Limited amenities: no bar or restaurant, no in-room fridge, no separate fans in wardrobes; positives include veranda, free parking and dog-friendly policy.
Value for Money
7.2
Several guests felt the property is below standard for the price and not worth the money now that restaurant/bar facilities are absent; some feel value remains due to location.
Food and Beverage
8
Breakfast is offered but described as self-serve/not up to standard by some; no restaurant or bar service for evening food — food offering is functional but limited.
Overall Experience
8
Mixed but generally positive due to location and cleanliness; lower marks stem from reduced services and lacking facilities — many guests 'made the best' of a pleasant location.

Very good location and comfortable room but basic facilities and not enough staff .
Pros:

Location

Cons:

Not enough staff . No one present after 5pm and bar closed at 5pm . Too early to close bar on a Friday / Sat evening.

Lobby baby change toilet bin not emptied and overflowing with paper hand towels. Ladies toilet , hand towel dispenser not working.

Pleasant
Pros:

We love the location and have been there before 4 years ago

Cons:

It has gone down hill since our last visit after breaking away from Best Western and closing for 6 months. They dont hold any events anymore and are putting the cafe out to francise. They are only going to open for the summer months in the future according to the staff. The reception was only open 10am to 5pm so if you needed anyone after that you had to phone a mobile number. There was no bar or cafe facilities after 5pm

Great location by the sea but a disappointing experience.
Pros:

Car parking off road.

Cons:

No cooked breakfast. No bar. No evening reception. Sad to see the terrace with a great view of the sea not in use. Unable to see my face in the bathroom mirror (too low on the wall). Rooms smelt like an unloved care home :(

Unhappy visit
Pros:

That this Hotel holds personal memories.
A place that we have used many times over the years.

Cons:

That is now classed as a B&B. And we could not have the Sea View room that we booked weeks ago as it had a plumbing issue we were told! So we ended up in a dark gloomy room. With partial refund. It ruined the weekend. A return is very unlikely.

Very good stay, Good Location and nice accommodation
Pros:

The Hotel was on the Seafront and the view from the front was excellent.
The Staff were friendly and helpful but no over night cover (except by call out), however this was not an issue during my stay.
Room was a far size and comfortable and clean.

Cons:

Nothing it was perfect for my needs.

Erg teleurstellend voor die prijs
Pros:

De ligging

Cons:

Zeer hete en gedateerde kamers, het raam ging maar 10cm open. Er was geen sfeer. Een ongezellig ontbijt, opscheppen uit bakken, koffie uit de kan.
De badkamer met heel luidruchtige verluchting.

Stay at the Holmwood
Pros:

The decking on the front.
The interior decoration was nice.
The staff were friendly.

Cons:

Bathroom was dated and smelly.
No system for room cleaning while you're out and about.
Mini fridge in the room would be nice
View in the room was non existent.
Ground floor, hot so had to keep the window closed all night.
Bed was a bit hard.

Enjoyed a few days’ stay at The New Holmwood Hotel.
Pros:

The location is right on the sea front with a wonderful view across The Solent. It was very hot and the sea breezes were very welcome. The public rooms are large and airy. The room was large with a King bed, a good bathroom and large shower. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was £17.50 and served in the dining room overlooking the sea, but we didn’t try it.

Cons:

We had a ceiling fan in the room but it was only on a slow speed, so the room was a little stuffy. It was exceptionally hot though.

Pros:

Not cooked fresh on first day - kept hot but ingredients not refreshed so scrambled egg had a hard topping and mushrooms were crispy. No choice of other eggs ie poached or fried. Ceral limited in choice and no pastries!

Cons:

Hot breakfast cooked to order with more choice - see above
Given the heatwave an additional room fan would have been welcomed!
