HOTEL Staff are very kind .They are corresponded to my request kindly.
Very good located but the bed was really really really hard to sleep on!
The breakfast buffet was amazing
Knowing nothing about Wakkanai apart from its proximity to the most northerly place in Japan, I booked this because of the added proximity to the Ferry Terminal and the train station. The former is about 10 minutes and the latter is about 1 minute. However, because of the hour of arrival (1915) from Rishiri Island off the Ferry, I was the only checkin at that time. All was good, the room was ready, maps provided. However, I was on 6th floor. This had an overwhelming, intrusive odour of cigarette smoke. So did, 5, 4, 3 in fact all floors stank of cigarette smoke. I was too tired to enter into any discussion about changing rooms. The restaurant, however, is a pleasant surprise. I had the local fish fish at 1000 yen and a Sapporo beer (would not have anything else in Hokkaido) and the total came to 1755 yen. A little pricing but that's what you get. The room - was clean, tidy, had everything in it that I needed for the one night I was there. The bed was hard, the pillows matched the degree of hardness. There is a kettle for tea making, hair drier, western sized towels and an amenities kit in the room.
The hotel is literally next door to the information centre which doubles as the bus station and train station. Wakkanai is not a big place but had enough to keep me occupied for the 15 or so hours I was there.
The room was neat and comfortable, staff were helpful—although not all of them are fluent in English, they were willing to help and answer the questions with my journey. The hotel is easy to access—around 5 minutes walk from JR Wakkanai Station, or if you taking the Soya Bus from Wakkanai Airport, this is a half-hour trip and the stop is diagonally opposite the hotel. There are supermarket and convenience store nearby, and restaurants as well (pay attention to the opening hours, most of them close quite early). Overall, it is a nice experience, and I definitely would stay in this hotel next time.
Our beds were really hard, but the staff allowed us to have futons on the mattress. Otherwise, we enjoyed everything else about our stay. Within walking distance to Wakkanai Station, local bus, and ferry, it was easy to visit Wakkanai Lighthouse (take local bus to Noshappu), and take ferry for day trip to Rushiri Island.
I had been traveling the circumference of Hokkaido and was exhausted from the long drive. As I was checking into the Wakkanai Sun Hotel it became very apparent due to the combative nature of the front desk manager and the owner GM that they basically don't want foreign visitors. Stay away from this place at all costs. They were extremely rude and I actually caught them in a lie. Place is extremely run down, smelly and dirty. It was the last place open for reservations on the booking website. I should have slept in the car. If you aren't Japanese and a holder of a Japanese passport, they don't want your business. STAY AWAY from the Wakkanai Sun Hotel.
It was the last hotel available on hotels.com in this city. Although the reviews were generally below average or poor I needed a hotel as I was on a long trip in Hokkaido. I have stayed in hotels in about 15 different countries and have never been treated so badly upon check in as this hotel. I absolutely would never stay here nor set foot in this place again. Extremely rude to international visitors, at least me. I asked to see the General Manager and was told he wasn't there. When I asked for a refund on the night he suddenly appeared. Caught red handed in a lie as well. Do yourself and favour. STAY AWAY FROM the Wakkanai Sun hotel.
Nice property near train station and port. Not many affordable food options nearby, but there are pachinko parlors if that's for you. The train station has some options for food and a movie house.
Staff is readily available even I reached Wakkanai at 11pm. The hotel is just a few steps from the rail station and bus station.
Wakkanai sun hotel is a local 3 star hotel. The hotel was well lactate do at the city centre. 5 minutes walk to the train station , there are Super market and shop alone the street. Room is clean but a bit old.
The hotel lobby a bit messy due to shop selling local product at lobby. Hotel staff do not speak english
