Pros:

Just like to leave I review for this place as it was lovely and such a peaceful stay! Very quick response and very friendly staff go that extra mile for guests I would definitely recommend! I even got a thank you email for keeping the room tidy which I thought was very lovely.

Very clean and such a comfortable bed! I was very impressed that they had prime also as I got to watch my series :-)

Avoid at all costs
Pros:

Avoid. Not near to anything. Hotel is locked until 3pm so we were left in the cold and rain. When we were let in and wanted to check in, the reception girl was too busy talking on her phone!!. Eventually got our key and got into small, but clean room. Awful old window that was drafty and not secure. Nowhere to hang coat. No complementary water as stated. Then went downstairs to wait for taxi to go to quayside and the receptionist was letting lots of very dodgy looking men in with hoods up and made me and my friend very uncomfortable. They obviously didn't work there as didn't know code to get in. Once in, looking through drawers to store cupboard. When we arrived back few hours later, they were all in reception with lots of crates of alcohol. All very strange and not at all welcoming or comfortable. Avoid at all costs.

Pleasant stay
Pros:

Pleasant enough stay for 1 night with smooth booking process through booking.com. Close enough to West End restaurant belt and a short taxi drive frm Central train station.
All rooms acessible with ramp for wheelchars to lift to all floors.
Hotel was very clean and staff were accomodating and friendly. Had trouble getting hot water through bath tap so had to fill bath with shower. If we had contacted reception they would have explained the operation of the taps to us. The key was to ask about it. I suggested to them to have the information about the taps in each bathroom to make things easier for guests.
Hotel has it's own Indian restaurant on site so food is readily available. God value at £35. Would recomend to others and stay again.

Hotel Balmoral - Give it a miss
Pros:

Mediocre rooms, terrible service, management just don't care.
Poor soundproofing - could hear someone having noisy sex at 2am and ruffians arguing in the corridor at 1am
Music and noise from the restaurant below until midnight.
Road noise til gone midnight
Rooms poorly equipped, not even soap in the bathroom - not that it mattered as the tichy little basin was too small to wash in.
Uncomfortable bed and pillows - 'King size' bed was infact 2 single beds pushed together, my feet were hanging out of the end of the bed (I'm 6'5")
Pretty rough area.
All in all a not very nice experience, glad it was only one night.
Would not recommend

A pleasant stay
Pros:

We had a "Best Western" special sale offer of buy one night, get one free in December 2023 which was excellent value.

The male member of staff on reception gave us an underwhelming welcome and didn't look very smart so we were a bit apprehensive as we made our way to our room.

However we were pleasantly surprised as the room was clean and pleasant.

The parking was free.

It was a 10-15 minute walk downhill into the city centre or you could hop on the bus outside. We did both.

Both nights we were there we got an Uber back which was £5-£10 and worth every penny as the hill back is steep.

Breakfast was included but it was continental only and consisted of toast, drinks and some unappealing prepacked bakery items. The ones we tried we didn't enjoy.
We opted for some toast and tea and ate quickly as we were the only ones in the restaurant and there wasn't any music. As a consequence we felt like we had to whisper and didn't feel very comfortable. For these reasons we didn't bother with breakfast the next morning.

There was an onsite indian restaurant (also where you ate breakfast) and it did feel like the business was an independent restaurant with rooms rather than a chain hotel with a restaurant attached.

We did experience some noise presumably from customers leaving the restaurant and waiting for a taxi and for quite some time there was loud laughter and talking and this stopped us sleeping as our window was just above the reception. At one point I looked out and they were almost leaning on our car which alarmed me at first as I thought someone was trying to break in it.

All in all a pleasant experience and a great price but unsure if we would return without a special offer.

I'd say a rating of 3.5 but doesn't make a 4.

Fantastic and very good value!
Pros:

The reception lady was very nice, polite and helpful. Check in was quick no issues. We had to stay somewhere during home renovations so we just wanted somewhere budget friendly and nearby, this was ideal. This is a basic hotel which for the price it is excellent, spotlessly clean and decorated/ maintained to a high standard. The room has everything you would want from a standard hotel room - hair dryer, kettle, tea and coffee, bath and shower gel, a safe, a dressing table, phone, alarm clock.
The bathroom has a nice powerful shower and is all in working order, towels are clean and in good condition and plenty of toilet rolls.

Although it is on a main road we had no complaints with noise from that or from other rooms and slept brilliantly. Wi-Fi is free and the TV has Netflix, YouTube. There is a large car park and there appears to be cctv, the staff take your vehicle registration. They give you a code for the front door on check in in case it is locked when you come and go.

We had a ‘standard’ king room however the bed is massive and very comfortable. The window is nice and big and opens which is fantastic to let some air circulation as it is quite warm in the room. One thing to note is that there are only two sockets for the room at the desk so I would bring an extension if you need it.

I didn’t get breakfast so can’t comment on it however I saw a review which said you can go for breakfast in the Indian restaurant Akbar’s next door but it smelled of Indian food which they don’t like, I mean come on how idiotic can you be to go into an Indian restaurant and complain of the smell of curry? It’s like diving into the sea and complaining it’s too wet. I can say there is no smell at all in the hotel and there are multiple cafes/shops/takeaways on the same street, and the location is minutes away from town so you have no shortage of places to get something to eat.

To summarise, I would definitely recommend this hotel, the location is ideal, you get a lot more than a premier inn or other similar priced no frills hotel, the rooms are lovely and it was actually cheaper for us to stay here!

Unpleasant in many ways
Pros:

The service from Reception was below the minimum standards. I had to ask for wifi password, breakfast time, if there was a lift…
Breakfast was a disgrace, there were no bread/croissants but the only bakery items were long life packed muffins. The orange juice was of the cheapest quality and there were 2x yoghurts available.
There were cereals but no milk.
Coffee and tea were offered by the waiter.
Breakfast is served in the curry restaurant next door and the smell is very strong which is very unpleasant if it’s not your choice of food.
Upon checkout I was only asked for the room number and no farewell was given.
I will not return and would not recommit this hotel either.

Wouldn't come back.
Pros:

We arrived in the morning as we wanted to have a wonder into the town centre, we were able to park in the hotel car park, we just told them our car registration.
Checked in at 3, and they had to check if the room was cleaned, which it was. The room was OK, although we weren't given a spare toilet roll, so the toilet roll was gone by morning as it wasn't even a full roll. The hotel is very noisy and you can hear everything, woken up numerous times by guests in the corridors and the bed sloped in the centre so quite uncomfortable. Our bathroom kept getting a really bad smell of cigarette smoke that I assumed was coming through the vent from another room, maybe smoking. The smell came through the whole room, which wasn't nice.
When we arrived we added breakfast for £7.50 pp, when we went down in morning we were shown to the attached restaurant akbars and told to take a seat, there was a tray of individual cerials, milk, yoghurts, fruit juices, jams, and chocolate chip Muffins. We were then asked if we would like tea or coffee and white or brown toast. I was under the impression it was a cooked breakfast from pictures on here from other travellers but it wasn't, had I have known I wouldn't have paid for breakfast we would have gone out for breakfast. I probably wouldn't stay here again for the price we paid. I have stayed in much nicer hotels.

Did not sleep well
Pros:

Room was too hot, only way to cool it down was to open the windows which my room overlooked main road with continuous traffic. Plus ensuite smelt like an open sewer. I arrived at 5pm and had to wait ten minutes for them to ready my room

Nice Place
Pros:

The room was nice. I was in 102, so a corner with two nice sash windows, so plenty of light. Very tidy and clean, bathroom good and shower too.
Quiet location and was peaceful.
Car parking great so was access.
Very handy for the town centre.
I would say overall, a good place to stay.

Family weekend
Pros:

Hotel rooms were fine but when we arrived just after 1 we just expected to leave our bags as didn't expect rooms to be ready but was told one room was ready so we thought great but to be told as it was earlier than check in time we had to pay 10pnds. I have never in any hotel we have ever stayed in been expected to pay extra for a room being ready so for this reason we will not be returning or recommend this hotel.

Hotel Customer service at its best! (But avoid booking with Agoda at all costs!)
Pros:

The hotel is deceiving from the outside, but inside it is newly refurbished, the beds are amazingly comfy, and has all the creature comforts you could ask for. Its location is perfect with only a 10 minute walk into town.

We had an issue on check-in, as I had booked through Agoda, and we were advised by the gentleman on reception that regrettably they did not deal with Agoda and had no record of our booking. The poor guy was so apologetic and explained that they had asked Agoda many times to remove their hotel from their website… shortly after, another guest arrived with the same issue. I called Agoda and they were extremely unhelpful (whatever you do don’t book anything through them!), however luckily the hotel had one room left which we took and they matched the price I had paid through Agoda… I’ve never been so grateful for good customer service in my life! Agoda on the other hand were useless, but we did get a refund from them in the end.

On our second night staying there, we decided to try the attached Indian restaurant, which was buzzing with families and groups enjoying what looked like amazing meals. Me and my partner had starters, mains, a huge naan and it was all beautiful and very reasonable. The chefs brought the food to the table which I also thought was a nice touch. The gentleman from reception also happened to be serving that night and came over to welcome us back and gave us some new icecream to try for dessert.

All in all, I can’t recommend this hotel enough and I would certainly go back…. Just book direct with the hotel 😊

Rude staff amazing room
Pros:

Check in was 3pm we arrived at 3pm only to be told our room wasnt going to be ready for another 30mins. We asked the member of staff if there was anywere we could at least get ready for a concert that was on at 4pm. She just shrugged at us and said no!!! Extremely rude. We had to get ready in the restraunt toilet which was dirty. I bet if we checked out half an hour late then they would be quick to charge us so why is it ok the other way round.
Such a shame the staff are so rude and poorly trained as the room was lovely and a good size.

Average hotel but……..
Pros:

I was going to write an average review for this hotel, however after accidentally leaving my GHD hair straighteners in the room then to be told they were not found by house keeping nor in the room I am extremely disappointed. Yes it is my responsibility to remember my belongings and I am very annoyed with myself but more upset and sad that there is someone being dishonest there!!

Lovely hotel
Pros:

We found this hotel to be excellent value. The rooms are modern and spacious, the beds are comfortable along with the pillows. We were in a room above the restaurant but we weren't bothered by noise, in fact we found the hotel to be quiet in general and we were not bothered by any external noise such as the road. The staff are friendly and helpful and you get a bottle of water per guest in the room along with tea and coffee which was great. Would highly recommend. It is walkable to town, we got an uber back at the end of the evening which was around 6 to 7 pounds

Well Above Average
Pros:

Have used before and will use again. Good value when on a good rate, excellent restaurant onsite. Clean, friendly and decent. Only downside this trip was other guests having a major argument in the corridor in the early hours, although it passed quickly.

Nice location if you're looking for somewhere quiet.
Pros:

Pleasant hotel within walking distance of the city centre, beware though the walk back is quite steep. Also note that they do not serve any pork at breakfast. Ok for 1 night stay, underfloor heating in the rooms is a bit difficult to control (there are controls in the room) but if you're not familiar with it it maybe an issue.

Disappointing this time - Avoid Room 104
Pros:

We have stayed numerous times at this hotel, this was however the first time since it changed to The Balmoral Hotel and has been revamped.
We were in Room 104 on the first floor over Reception / Hotel Guests to Restaurant Entrance.
The hotel has had all the carpets replaced by laminate flooring which makes it echo / noisy in corridors rooms have under floor heating making it warm to the feet (too hot in the room by morning). There was a single rug on one side of the bed that was so old and threadbare it was basically the rug hessian backing you were walking on one corner, where it had been under an item of furniture during its long life, you could make out the colour and pattern it originally had - nice as a 'feature'? not in a revamped hotel.
The room and bathroom were clean less for the floor which walking around without shoes on we kept feeling bits of 'grit' (?) that we kept picking up and dust, appeared not to have been hoovered.
Avoid Room 104 to avoid the noise from below and the front door!!! From 11:30 pm - 12:30 am the fro 07:00 am onward we heard 'bang, bang' from the front door which is a large heavy wooden door the closes with a double bang, the door wasn't the real culprit it was the staff from Akbar's either going out (bang, bang) to make calls on mobile phones below our window then coming back in (bang, bang) or leaving (bang, bang). The bang, bang started again at 07:00 as staff arrived or guests left. We also heard furniture being dragged around below us around 07:30.
Never had noise issues there before, but not a good nights stay in Room 104
