Hotel Secreto La Fortuna

The staff were amazing. We had an issue with the air conditioning. The room was very hot. They did fix it later. The door wouldn't lock. It was a little scary. The breakfast was good. I would stay here again for the price. It's walkable everywhere in the little town of La Fortuna.

Clean room, beautiful property...we even saw sloths in the trees above the property! The front desk was very nice and helped us by booking and recommending local tours. Breakfast was good, fresh fruit, and 3 options to choose from that were cooked to order. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance. I would highly recommend!

The staff were super sweet and he being a photographer himself tried to give me the best spots in costa rica for wild life. The hotel had more birds than Monteverde itself, we saw a sloth on a tree in the hotel premises. Cozy, very eco friendly, homemade breakfast. There is a restaurant right outside the hotel called Familia Restaurante, the food was very tasty! Highly recommend Secreto!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and 4 days. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed when we saw not only our room but the hotel itself. Pictures make it look better than it is - though it's beautiful and is surrounded by trees, flowers, and plants, we were left very disappointed. We thought we booked the room with a balcony, only to find out we were placed in a single-level room. The room either has clear sliding doors as the main entrance, so, you can either get sunlight and be able to see outside but have zero privacy, or, you can have privacy but not get sunlight or be able to see outside. Those sliding doors need to get some sort of mirror film where you can see outside but people outside can't see in your room. The TV had very little channels available, and half of the channels didn't have sound - just the image. The channels that did have sound kept going in and out and we kept on getting a "no signal" error every couple seconds. There is only one thin mirror in the room, not very useful for a room where there's more than one people staying. Another thing, we struggled to get hot water. The last night was fine, but every day/night before that we'd only get maybe 3 minutes of hot water then it'd get cold. Another important detail: the walls are VERY thin. We stayed in room 11 and all we could hear for the 4 days we were there was the man in room 10 coughing and coughing. The pool is VERY small. The sitting area is very limited. Free breakfast was great.

Good property

Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. We arrived after 9 PM, well past check-in time, and were given a room with a broken air conditioner. The room was unbearably hot, the refrigerator was unplugged, and it was obvious the space hadn’t been properly prepared.

When we reported the AC issue, staff only tried switching the remote, even though the unit itself was broken. After repeated requests, we were finally offered another room, but it was a downgrade, dirty, and smelled strongly of mold.

At that point, the conditions were unacceptable, and we had no choice but to leave and book another hotel at our own expense. The staff showed little effort or compassion in resolving the situation, which made the experience even worse.

This property did not meet basic hospitality standards, and I would not recommend it to anyone expecting clean, comfortable accommodations or reliable service.

Great location- easy walk to town. Breakfast was good but limited choices.

Safe and convenient, close enough to the restaurants and shops but far enough to be quiet and peaceful.
