Arrived on Thursday evening. Very helpful and friendly check in. Hotel clean and tidy outside and main entrance. Our room was very old fashioned with a 4 poster bed. It must have been years old! There was all glue marks across the top where there must have been some sort of pelmet years ago. Everything was so dated it was like a nursing home.
Jacuzzi bath in en-suite didn’t work and shower pressure was awful. We had booked dinner at “Marcos “ but cancelled when restaurant staff couldn’t answer menu questions.
Buffet breakfast was included. Thursday morning was ok but Friday was awful. They also squeeze everyone into one side of the room so felt like we dining with other guests. I asked for a tea pot but no members of staff could find one ( they were visible on the bar)
We would not return here
Very comfortable room with a lovely bed for a two night stay. Excellent breakfast, very helpful and friendly staff. Also enjoyed a tasty well cooked and served evening meal.
Problem led to an offer of bill discount t that did not happen. Also tried to charge me twice for meals that were included in the DBB rate. Manger did not fulfill his promise.
Lots of parking. Easy to find. Clean room with everything you need in it. Restaurant on site and an option for room service with a small fee and a good breakfast
It’s in a great location minutes from the M5 but in a rural setting and with plenty of free parking. We have stayed here before and it’s been recently redecorated so it’s all looking very smart inside. A friendly reception and our room was on the ground floor as I requested when booking as there’s no lift. We had a very smart room with a good shower, adjustable heating, great WiFi and plenty of storage for our four-night stay. Lots of power points for chargers too. Although the room faced the A38 it was quiet and we slept very well with just the occasional sound from the road.
Breakfast was fine with a help yourself hot and cold buffet, although they need to sort out a way of keeping the plates hot. On weekends it seems that you are served at table. Food is available in the evening but we did not use this facility. Note also that your room is not serviced throughout your stay.
A good comfortable hotel at a fair price, we enjoyed our stay.
First impressions it looks ok ,but room was average and window was broken and cold air noise from outside. Service in the evening was ok apart bars were shut during the dinner Service. Breakfast in the morning was laughable as was running out food item continuous and had to keep asking for crockery etc . Staff seem more interested in standing around chatting rather clearing table and reviewing coffee / hot water containers etc. Unfortunately it doesn't give a very good impression of service.
I had 2 nights here, arriving late on a Friday after a nightmare journey through floods/accidents etc. I had plans in Wotton for the weekend, and this was nice and close.
I found the receptionists lovely - the chap on when I arrived had been advised of my delays (should have been there for half 3, arrived at gone 6!) and had asked the restaurant to hold my reservation, which was very much appreciated!
My room (301) was advertised as a small double, but honestly it was a great size! Lots of space and storage, a fantastic bathroom with walk in (heated floor) rainfall shower, coffee maker (Dolce Gusto which does need instructions, and if you make a cappucino use BOTH pods!) plenty of heating and fan options, good towels, black out blinds and curtains - in all honesty it was brilliant - the mattress was a little firm for me, though. It was a nice quiet room too.
I ate at the restaurant both nights, alone and with friends, having calamari, steak, prawns, pasta, salads and desserts, and all were good quality, fresh, hot (not the salads, lol!) and thoroughly enjoyed.
The breakfasts were great too, hot, good quality - yay for decent sausages! - and there was a good selection of everything you could want.
The staff were all good, particularly Kaitlyn in the restaurant, she's definitely an asset!
My only issue is the signage as you arrive in the dark - it's hard to see, not sure if a bulb has gone on the sign?
Overall value was great, and I'd recommend The Gables to anyone, and I will definitely be back.
We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who quickly acknowledged my rewards status .We had a beautiful room on the ground floor, a large comfy bed , a sitting area , large desk and chair all beautifully appointed. There were over 12 USB sockets so no problem plugging in our phones etc. A very well stocked amenities tray ,kettle ,cups etc.
The shower room was state of the art with a heated mirror with digital clock , good quality toiletries and push button controls for the excellent shower.
This was one of the cleanest hotels we have ever stayed in.
Breakfast was amazing with all the usual pastries, cereals ,yogurts ,fruit and a very wide selection of cooked food including fried bread ,delicious.
A faultless stay and we will stay again.
The hotel was very clean the staff were very helpful and friendly the food was very nice we ate in the bar area it was very relaxed. If I had one negative it was thst the bed was a little hard it could have done with a mattress topper.
Very dog friendly. Staff excellent.
Plenty of parking and easy to find, just off the motorway. Got a good rate for the night and bed v comfortable. Room of reasonable quality although ensuite could do with some refurbishment. Power shower 10/10. My main criticism is that it is a tad noisy, both from the road outside and from creaky floorboards in hallways. Pleasant bar area. Cannot comment in food as did not dine. Perfectly gone for a one night stay.
Staff were pleasant and helpful, breakfast was better than expected and the bar area is quite nice. Comfortable enough bed but the bathroom was very dated & the shower-head would not stay in place. A septic tank issue during heavy rain caused a slight smell, but only in the conference area. Overall, its adequate for a 1 night stop-over.
This was my third visit to The Gables, and again I had a very enjoyable stay.
All three visits were in order to visit the zoo; the first time being while the zoo was still in its historic location in the Clifden area. For both that and the new location, The Gables is quite convenient, being only a 20-minute drive away. There might be hotels that are more convenient, but some don't have any on-site parking - The Gables has plenty - and I was also happy to stick with the Best Western brand as I find them reliable and I had by now accumulated plenty of points and wanted to supplement them.
For this visit, I chose to stay two nights, giving an uninterrupted day at the zoo, and not taking advantage of the other sites in the area.
The staff are all very welcoming and friendly and helpful (I needed extra coffee for the machine in the room). The room was great, very clean & comfortable, and a nice bath. The only downside was some traffic noise: the hotel is on the main A38, and although the windows have double-glazing, it's not up to the task. I understand that there are plans to update this quite soon. Despite that, I found that the amount of traffic lessened as it got later, and I was able to get to sleep (although I did use earplugs the second night). When I did wake in the middle of the night, it was silent - the traffic had stopped. So, for me, this is worth noting but not enough to stop me coming back (obviously, as this is my third visit!).
I did not include breakfast so I cannot comment on that, but I did choose to eat in the restaurant both evenings. There's nothing else nearby, you would have to drive out to find something. It's mostly pizza, which I didn't want, but there are "large plates" that include lasagne, and "small plates", from which I chose my main, and then dessert. The food was all good, if a little salty, and reasonably priced.
Where to start. Hotel is dated and needs deep cleaning to start. I doubt Marco has ever set foot in the restaurant, only half of the menu available and what i ordered, half of that had been microwaved from frozen. Staff were good but disappeared for long spells. Had the cheek to add a charge for a tip for themselves ,because after our meal there was no one to speak to, therefore charged to the room.
In general the staff were helpful but id say the owners need to take a hard look at what they offer and Marco Pierre Whits needs to pay a visit and see what they are serving up. Will not be going again and will not be recommending this establishment to anyone. Book the Devere up the road for £20 extra and have a lovely stay with better rooms and food.
Friendly and attentive staff. Nice room. Lovely restaurant and able to sit in bar area with our dog. Very convenient as close to the motorway. Only negative point is the lack of anywhere to walk the dog.
Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast, well equipped and clean room.
Called here for a family of 10 the night before our sons wedding, which was at Tortworth Court Manor which is close by, " Marco Pierre White , that should be great" everyone said. WOW !!! how wrong could we be, service was actually abysmal, on a Wednesday night at 7 pm the restaurant was empty, yet it still took 45 minutes, yes, 45 minutes!! to get a drink, it took 30 minutes for them to ask if we wanted a drink and that was only because we asked, the drinks turned up after we had finished our pre ordered starters, food wasn't great and the £400 bill for this experience was a disgrace.
Two very young waitresses who haven't had any training in customer services what so ever, i don't blame them, the management needs to have a look into thier staff training practices, if they have any at all.
DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU THINK MARCO PIERRE WHITE HAS ANYTHING TO DO THIS PLACE !!!!!! SHOCKING !!!
This hotel gives a warm welcome and has excellent facilities. The staff are so helpful and nothing seems to be too much trouble. The rooms were of a good size and our accessible room was ideal. The bar and restaurant provided a good service too. It is difficult to pick out any one member of staff as they were all so attentive. All staff went out of their way to make us comfortable.
Better than expected for a 3 star hotel. Friendly helpful staff, a good breakfast with plenty of choice and an excellent meal in the bar. The outside seating area was very pleasant and there was plenty of parking. If I was to nitpick the coffee in the bar was disappointing. Overall an enjoyable experience.
Room was very tired and dirty
